If you want to find a place to eat or drink you will not find anything on the east side of the campus so do not get off on the first exit (there is usally one of those flashing signs that tell you to take the next exit anyway) If you want to find a place then I suggest you take the highway 12 exit which will take you to the west side of the campus and into downtown Starkville. If you want a Walmart or want to avoid the gameday traffic then go up to the third exit which is highway 25. Take that south to the highway 12 exit and there will be a walmart at that exit and will be the west side of Starkville and then follow 12 back to the stadium.
>
Once you get close to the stadium you will find that they block off nearly all roads surrounding the stadium. Try to find a place where others are parking. Do not park on the grass unless you pay the $10-$12 for parking. If you park on campus and park on the grass they will tow your car. The only exception is their pay to park grass lots. Now off campus is a different story and you can usually get away with parking on grass as long as you see others parking near.

If you are in the upper sections you will most likely have to walk up the ramps. Give yourself some time to walk up the ramps. It does not look that high but the walking zig-zag up the ramp is very long. And with them selling 'standing room only' tickets many people will be trying to get a view from the ramp area.
Also if you have never been to Starkville then get ready to meet Mr Cowbell.
Some of the Dog fans have larger bells than mobile homes. They ring them on the way to the game, before the game, and loud during the game. Just be prepared for it. If you have never seen the cowbells it is a tradition that you will tell everyone and is really something to behold. It is loud if someone is sitting right next to you but to be honest it really only makes a loud din to the players on the field.
>
After the game nearly everything will be closed. The highway 45 exit in Columbus is your best bet for something to be open. But be prepared to get all the way back to TTown before being able to stop for gas or food.

I wish the governor or who ever the power might be would ask the Highway Patrol to set up road blocks on all the road coming in from Alabama. Just to 17 with them.

It just doesn't compare to Bama, Ole Miss, LSU, UT, etc.

Or did I misinterpret your "sigh?"

I hope you are just trying to piss people off. Gameday at MSU is better than UT and every bit as good as Ole Miss.</p>

A bunch of drunken frat boys screaming Klan slogans at the top of their lungs?

I must have missed where gameday in the stadium is different place to place. Band plays, highlight video, group cheer, teams take the field. Who's doing it differently?

I notice he doesn't mention that most of this area he is describing as empty/nowhere to stop is actually in Alabama.

This is the response I would expect from you, but please do me the honor of explaining how your gameday experience is sooo much better than yours. MSU and Starkville have a perception problem so don't bother quoting some article about the Grove's virtues. I want concrete examples.

sorry...never got much as an opposing fan out of any venue other than LSU. I hate those corndog bastards, but they can tailgate, and they're more than happy to share with the visitors. Florida was decent, but the orange and blue town is so ugly it cancels them out.

what does Ole Miss have to offer that MSU doesn't? I can understand Bama, LSU, and UT because they're in much larger towns, but there is no more to do in Oxford than in Starkville. So don't come over here with that BS.

but it's still the same process. And that goes for everywhere. People tailgate, team walks in, band marches in, and we go forward. Gameday experience is a highly overrated term. Atmosphere is something different. When you have big crowds and big games, it is different.

I'll go out on a limb and say "Hold That Tiger" circa 1993 wasn't very inspiring. It's all about the teams playing.

When I'm on a road trip to a college town, the last place I care about is the local Walsmart. Also, when you give advice about a particular place, it's help if you've actually been there in the past 10 years.

Most people like to get to a game early to see the gameday experience. However MSU really does not have much to offer.

After the game nearly everything will be closed.

Just be prepared for it. If you have never seen the cowbells it is a tradition that you will tell everyone and is really something to behold

I am just so appreciative of this comment. Finally, someone realizes it is just our tradition of which we are proud. We are not trying to deafen someone or annoy anyone. It is just our tradition.

I would put UT, UK, and Vandy as the bottom 3 pregame in that order unless you take a boat down the river with the Vol Navy. I've never been to Arkansas, but everywhere else is about the same. LSU does it bigtime of course and UGA is cool because of Athens.

Half the people don't even go to the game. They just sit in the grove and compare tailgate chandeliers. The Stadium is NEVER loud and if you get past all of the racist tradition then you have to deal with the most delusional fan base in America. By delusional I mean one that claims it has three fake National Championships and caries itself with the entitlement of a Notre Dame, Florida, USC or dare I say Alabama.

It reached a fever pitch before this season and if you don't believe me just think about how much you heard the word "Undefeted" come out of Ole Miss fan's mouths before this season. Ridiculous.

I'm sorry, but when LSU's band comes out and plays "Hold that Tiger", it gave me chills as an opposing fan.

I've been to UT and seen them open the T, and that gave me chills as an opposing fan. Everyone has their version of a team walk and tailgating of course, but not all of them are the same.

And yes tailgating is not the same everywhere. UT doesn't have a great tailgating scene, but they have the VolNavy. UGA doesn't have a great scene. Neither does Arkansas. Auburn's is average. At Ole Miss, and now MSU, the tailgating is at least concentrated to one specific spot on campus.

Yes the process is the same and every school has the same steps, but the experience isn't the same everywhere.

Hotter women.

Not that there isn't talent in The Junction. There is plenty. There's just more of it in The Grove. The Grove is just one damn jaw dropping experience after another. I'm tellin ya, in Oxford they redshirt Miss America contestants.

Prior to the rise of The Junction, MSU had nothing that compared to The Grove. Today.....its a push. I dare say Ole Miss had a several year head start on the rest of the SEC in tailgating. Its just in the last few years that everybody else has just as big of an outside-the-stadium gathering/production as Rebel fans do.

the chills come from packed stadiums and good teams. If you were at LSU and heard the band play as Curley Hallman led the Tigers onto the field, probably not the same feeling. Again, there is a difference between atmosphere, which to me means the way the crowd reacts to everything, and experience, which is what the various groups do as part of a routine. Bands play the same set of songs, fans do the same cheers, and so on.

All convenience stores and restaurants in Starkville close at 9 or shortly thereafter. He probably likes getting off at the 45 exit in Columbus because there is a Ryan's right there.

After the game nearly everything will be closed. The highway 45 exit in Columbus is your best bet for something to be open. But be prepared to get all the way back to TTown before being able to stop for gas or food.
