I am cautiously optimistic. At this point it is clear that there is very little chance that GRRM will ever finish the saga so this is probably the finale of the actual story everyone cares about.

I think overall the show done a fantastic job of reducing the novels to a comprehensible television show that is true to the source material. That is always a thankless task and while there have been severe missteps (Hello Braindead Wight Kidnapping Plot from last season and everything that ever happened in Dorne), overall it is just a fantastic show.

I am pretty pumped for tonight's episode. From what I understand, the first three episodes will be standard hourish runtimes and the last three episodes will basically be mini-movies.

Couldn't possible be more pumped.

I hope Cleganebowl happens, Dany dies some unexpected death for being fairly boring and tyrannical all these years, Tyrion lives to die in his 80s drunk with a *****, and the series generally avoids doing anything stupid.

And, of course, the story has been told by Samwell Tarly all along.

We shall see.

If Cersi doesn't die at some point this season the entire show will be a failure. Would love to see a dragon fire her to death right after both arms and legs have been ripped off by a group of wights.

Danny goes crazy and ends up getting killed and becoming a white walker.

Arya kills Cersei.

The Hound kills the Mountain.

Jamie completes his redemption arc and kills the Nights King.

Jon Snow dies sacrificing himself for either Dany or Sansa.

Sansa becomes Queen in the North.

Tyrion discovers he's a Targaryen and ends up on the Iron Throne.

Dany and Cersi die. They end up being the only ones that really care about the Iron Throne. Everyone else that survives decides that they’ve suffered enough losses between fighting the White Walkers and fighting each other. They make a pact and turn Westeros back into the “seven kingdoms”

That's my thinking when it comes to Tyrion. When he saw the dragons for the first time, way back in season 6, I think, he was right next to one and it didn't eat him or burn him. Thus he has Targaryen blood in him.

I haven’t read the books so I’m not privy to any possible ending scenarios. I just wonder if the Night King has some relation to one of the houses or if who he originally was has any bearing. Maybe it’s irrelevant but I think his identity may be revealed or tie together some origins of the war between the tree people and westerians.

Interesting. This is an angle I've never considered, which is somewhat surprising given the sheer volume of fan theories.

I can't take credit for the idea. I think I saw it on Reddit. I don't know if there are any original theories anymore, there's so many.

I like this one though.

He's the Kingslayer. He killed the Mad King (fire) and would also kill the Nights King (ice). Nice symmetry there.

He also has a Valyerian steel sword.

Anyone got a stream? They must have really clamped down on that since 2017. Used to be able to find one easily.

Job snow is going to have to kill his woman aka his aunt. We had waited so long to find out his damn parents even though we already knew Ned wasn’t his dad

That seemed like a waste. There’s only 6 episodes left and we waited two years for a 55 minute episode of a bunch of characters finding out stuff we already knew.

It was a fine exposition to the final season. Getting all the pieces in place before they start wasting everyone.

I think someone said it in another thread already, but Jon sacrificing himself and/or killing Dany to save Sansa seems a little more likely. Them two huers don't like each other much.

Best lines. "How did you survive a knife through the heart?" "I didn't."

Does Dany already know who Jon is?

Bran.I think the staredown with Jamie will lead to a whole bunch of nothing. Bran will say the past is meaningless or some crap.

The Jamie Lannister "I'm Sorry Tour" will be fun.

I think Jaime is awesome. Sympathetic train wreck. he’s a dead man walking as Cersie got his seed and that’s all she needed.

Bran’s gonna eff him up first tho. Bran is a cold Michael Corleone on the revenge tour of all non-Starks.

What happens with Braun? Is he dead? Will he turn on Jaime and Tyrion?

The way Theon pops out of nowhere to save lesis was... thin.

Feeling like a lot of this is on point.

$10/month for 2 months then cancel. $20 for Christ’s sake.

I think more could have happened, to be honest.

Wish they had closed something this episode .

Bran is now The Godfather. Just sits in the chair and knows everything.

I love his transformation into a complete dickhead. I'm reasonably certain that Bran doesn't even hold a grudge against Jaime at this point.

Other thoughts:

* As stated above, a very good intro episode that puts the narrative in place. Jon riding a dragon is fan service that I don't find interesting but whatever. Good start.

* Is it certain that Cersei is actually pregnant? If so, the Jaime / Euron paternity battle should be pretty epic.

* Why has Show Tyrion morphed into such a doofus? Just so the show runners can show how WOKE they are and let the girls school him all the time?

* Gendry and Arya sitting in a tree, etc. Gonna be weird watching those two hook up but it has to happen at this point.

The scene in the krypts with J'Aegon and Sam gave me chills. Fantastic first episode!

I think some of you make some good points. This episode was literally a set up episode so expect last nights episode to be the only slow one. Jon has found out his heritage so he will have a difficult decision to make, stand up to Dany or go into hiding after the war is over. Bran will forgive Jamie. Tyrion is up to something but it hasn’t been foreseen yet except that look Bran gave him means something.

I think Bran doesn't even have the emotions to forgive anymore. I'm sure he'll say something about "how the past is the past" or even thank him for putting him on the path to become the Three Eyed Raven. He has completely transformed into Branbot 2000 now.

I agree with your comments on Tyrion. I've noticed this over the last two seasons, and Sansa even commented on the show last night about how clever he used to be. It seems like he's been making bad decision after bad decision lately which is really out of character. I wonder if it's a set up for something larger or if the showrunners are dumbing him down for another reason.

Other thoughts:

- agree that the How to Train Your Dragon scene was 100% fan service and unnecessary, but I get it. If they don't put that scene in there, there's a ton of fan-rage.

- I thought the reveal to Jon about his true parentage could have been done a little better. That's basically the biggest revelation in the entire show, so I think they should have spent a little more time on it and his reaction. Maybe they still will, but I just felt like that scene left me wanting.

- Really pumped to see that Tormund made it out of Eastwatch alive. Also love that the Hound and Arya are back in the same place.

- The reunion between Arya and Jon also could have been a little more meaningful. I think his reunion with Sansa two seasons ago was better. I do find it interesting that Arya said "don't forget who your family is" or something. In light of Jon's true parentage, that comment could really go either way.

I agree with this. The episode seemed rushed but I think that was on purpose so they get to the real goods going forward. Also something is up with Tyrion that the show has given a few hints about last night. One is the comment Sansa gave, the other is the look bran gave Tyrion. We don’t know what it is but something can’t be right. I’m also wondering what they do going forward to let everyone know about Jons true parents. Do they make an announcement, does Howland Reed come to confirm it.

Good questions. I wonder if they aren't setting up Tyrion to betray Dany in favor of his family like he's purposely sabotaging her efforts. I feel like that would be too obvious though as Danaerys already accused him of that last season after they were outsmarted by the Lannisters.

They should’ve trimmed down the dragon riding scene a bit, to give more time to John learning who he was. That was my only complaint. The scene with the dragons was almost cheesy.

Agree.
Would have liked to have seen his first ride have more meaning. Maybe during a battle, the dragon seeing Jon in trouble comes in and Jon has to climb on to escape. Then realizes he can fly it.
