Gameday Atmosphere/experience was borderline unbearable.

We probably have too much

Going on during pre-game. If you go to LSU- I think that's how a pre-game show should be. They march out on the field and play Hold that Tiger to each side of the stadium, then they spell out LSU while playing the fight song. Then they do the National Anthem, and after that, they play the Fight Song again and form the tunnel. And then the team runs out.

We have to do all of these cheers, old fight songs that even the old people in the stands don't know, videos, etc. '

Simplify and the timing should get better.

We could very easily do something where the band marches out and just start with the State spell out- like have the band on the sideline and the announcer goes "give me a S" etc. then do the fight song and spell out MSU. Do the national anthem, play the fight song again while forming the tunnel, play a 2-3 minute football highlight video that is good and have the team run out.

It sounds like Janis, but I don't think it's really her. She did the complete song, and the commercial tails off where the real version did not. I think it's just a very good impersonator.

I'm old school too, but I really like the large HD video board and loud music. I just don't like the constant barrage of commercials, most of which are waaaaay too corny (if that's a current word), and disrupt the flow of the game and the excitement. But I'm all for the HD replays (and even live action ... sometimes you can actually see better, like on a FG) and the loud music.

Damn, did we lose on Saturday? You bitches all must be on your period. Shell out some more money to the University and I'm sure the ads could go away. *****, *****, *****.

The only commercials that should be allowed to be used should enhance the atmosphere with music and highlights of the current football team, past football teams (won't be many), upcoming basketball games w/ highlights and for the baseball team too. All they have to do is flash the logo of the advertiser at the end of the highlight commercial. Pick any song that fires up the crowd then add in sports highlights to go with the song and whoalaaa you have your gameday atmosphere fixed. Audio and video that don't hinder the mood. The PA announcer should only announce the game.

MSU should pay for very high quality highlight clips to be made for them. Many of them. With awesome music already synced to them. Then after it plays you display the logo of the advertiser who will pay for it. No more letting the advertiser choose what the crowd sees and hears. Here's an example of one. Pay whoever did this for ESPN to do 100 different of these for MSU and just cycle the advertisers at the end of each one.

As virulent as some of the complaints have been, I don't think our atmosphere needs much adjustment to return to being top notch.
1. Work out a shorter, more intense pre-game schedule so that you have absolutely no quiet time from the moment it starts until the team hits the field. Use zero commercials (even State focused ones), and if you use a video at all, it needs to be at least 90% game film, and it needs to be short. Madelon cannot be included in this portion. Oh, and save the Hawkeye/A7 and Confederate Air Forces flyovers for the big games. Those are the best one we've had due to the volume of noise and low approaches.
2. Schedule fewer recognitions on the field. It's fine to fit those in after we punt and they're not pinned deep or something, but you need to be flexible with those, and fit them to game situations. If the game is close and we have the momentum or need the fans involved, no one needs to trot out on the field, and we don't need commercials, either. That's the time to hit the "awesome song that invites the use of cowbells" button.
3. Feel free to start using some commercials on the jumbotron 2 hours before game time. If you're piping in a TV feed, sub in your commercials for theirs. If it's an early kick, and you're using the Bulldog radio network feed, same thing. That should help alleviate some of the loss of revenue from implementing #2.

They said they weren't restocking for the last game of the season so they wouldn't go to waste or some **** like that. My thinking was order the food, and if it doesn't get sold take it over to the Hump and sell it there. Really not that complicated.

I really can't stand Physics of Football.

I know all the girls cream their pants about how he looks, but they do the same thing for Ozarka and he's not up there talking about pointless **** ruining the game day experience. Physics douche has to go.

And it all has to do with that damn giant video board. I know this subject has been brought up a ton, but I gotta vent. The video board has become the centerpiece of our game day experience and it is suffocating everything else. The CONSTANT barrage of ****** commercials with the volume up too loud sucks the life out of the stadium. I understand you have to pay for things but Jesus H Christ enough already. Trotting out a different person out every timeout to congratulate or thank sucks the life out of the stadium.
There should be some time available fOr the band the actually play some songs and get our student action going. During a big series, of there is a timeout the band should be playing kickass music stoking the energy of the crowd. Instead, the attention of the fans is once again directed to the videoboard to watch a 17ing firetruck race a muscle car around a stupid 17ing track.

Furthermore, you're going to rely on the dumbass screen so often, at least operate it correctly. It's like my grandmother trying to navigate the Internet. Music is constantly being played when over the band. Several times I could hear people talking cause the guy forgot to turn he microphone off. They've had years o practice...figure the **** out.

Finally, the organization of the band sucks. The lines of the arbitrary obscure shapes they form are crooked and theres no creativity. Maybe because we rely on the board so much that there's no pressure to improve. I get back for one or two games a year and this is my perspective.

Could not agree more. I love the JumboTron (my eyes are old) and what it CAN do..

But the past few games it has essentially sucked the life out of the crowd. I cannot remeber which game it was but most were commenting that the song selection and timing were great.

Scott need sto raise the pricing and limit the ad opportunities. There are too many.

Also music needs to be played for more thena 10 seconds and then quickly shut off because we did an honor or commercial. It was nauseating and frustrating.

Older guys viewpoint on this topic after my first stadium game this season

I usually go to one or two games a year and this was my first game this season. I am an old school guy in that I actually go to sporting events to watch the sporting event. I have never needed all the other stuff to watch a game. Therefore I generally agree with most of what is being said here. In matter of fact I did say to my daughter at one point during the game that I wish we would get a break from all the constant noise.

I haven't seen those commercials all year, so I was able to ignore them, but I agree they are pretty poor and could get on your nerves to see them each week. Not sure I have a problem that they are being played.

One of my favorite fan things, and I think young people love it because my kids did when they were younger, is the first down call. I first experienced it at an Arkansas game many years ago. I know Bama does a form of it also. I wish we would adopt it. It is a good fan participation thing. Our announcer just says it's a first down. It would be much better for the announcer to queue up the fans and use the Jumbotron to help with it.

The problem with the current Jumbotron usage is that it tries to control the experience too much. The music and pace is too frantic all the time. As a fan, or even a player, you cannot maintain that high level for the whole time. You have to allow for rests and down time. It needs to be more organic and not so artificially up all the time.

Finally I was impressed with the "respect the bell" campaign. The fans have really gotten good at following the intent of the rule. Good Job Dogs.

I was hoping we could eventually get a universal "Hail State" cheer going with the first down calls on the PA but nobody has been able to synchronize one yet.

Stricklin says he has no problem with the scoreboard ads the way they are, and furthermore, since everybody likes the uniform stripes so much, he's thinking about adding more next year.

Brian Johnson from AC/DC is a more tolerable vocalist than Janis Joplin

I've known it was Joplin, but she sounds like Tanya Tucker turned up loud enough to make the speakers distort.

Because it's gay and it sounds like we're copying Ole Miss.

I really wish the student section would learn the timing for "Maroon, White, Fight Fight Fight." It's not a damn race. I also agree that there should be no lag between the band lining up for the tunnel and when the team actually comes out. Everybody is pumped up and then we have to watch 15 minutes of BS before the team runs out.

I can't believe some of you said that you wish we didn't have the jumbotron. Are you kidding me? What man has ever said, I wish I had a smaller tv?

There are a lot of schools that do something along those lines...

Because it's gay and it sounds like we're copying Ole Miss.
I was at Bama and they definitely had the "Roll Tide" going after every first down so it definitely wouldn't be doing anything that copies something the Bears have the market cornered on. And to be honest, I don't go to games in Oxford so I really had no clue that they did something similar. Just think it can be something else to enhance the crowd contribution to the game environment.

Guess I'm old school. But, I dislike most of what the jumbo tron does.

I buy my tickets, and make some games. But, my dislike of the jumbo tron has caused me to miss a few.

I'd like to enjoy the game, and atmosphere the way it was before the beast reigned. Even without the mega speakers, those who wanted to party in the stands had no problem.

I remember going to games before the video and amplifiers became overwhelming. The game, the band, the cheer leaders, the half-time were all focal points.

And the crowds could get into the game at least as well as they do now.

At times you were able to briefly discuss the game with your friends and others seated around you. You kind of got to know the fans in your area.

The music cranked up with Jackie, and it was fun for a while. But...

If I had the urge to be blasted by electronically enhanced audio, I'd go to a rock concert. If I wanted to be dazzled by video I'd go to a 3D I-Max, or a laser show. If I wanted to go to an arcade, the local fair would do. And I wouldn't want a football game to break out at any of them.

I miss the days when the loudest noises at the games were made by cow bells.

I am 36, not too old yet, and I agree with this post completely. It barely resembles a football game anymore. I never thought I would say it but the jumbotron is slowly killing the atmosphere, a little more each year. Since 98 or so this is the first time I have thought about not reordering season tickets for next season.

Maybe after the announcer's "1st down Bulldogs" the entire stadium rings their cowbell with one clang in unison.

I would be fine with doing away with all the commercials. BUT, I want to keep the Farm Bureau "Wrap it in Maroon and White" commercials. Those are getting more and more badass. The Chevron car race makes me want to kill somebody.
