I just got an email asking to spread the word on the massive shortage of officials anticipated in NC, and the need for new ones who want to sign up for that weekly abuse. If this sounds good to you, sign up to start training to officiate football this fall. I wonder if we will have games scheduled every night of the week except Sunday of course, to help spread the officials we do have? What y'all think? I could see that happening as NC continues to grow, schools open, and the shortage of officials continues to increase.

I get that. In other states they play every night because of the number of schools. And/or lack of stadiums. Here it might happen due to lack of officials. Maybe not this year but in time if something doesn't change.

It is not just NC, it is a severe shortage in all states. And it’s not just football, pretty much across the board all sports.

Sad news. But the way coaches and parents are these days, wouldn't expect anything less. Seen last week parent attacking a softball referee, cold clocked her. World is getting wild, feel bad for the kids.....

I saw a parent removed from the facility Sunday in a 8U Coach pitch game. Went bonkers over an interference call, that he was completely wrong on.

8U sports in general are nuts outside of rec ball.

I'm afraid we are going to see alot of middle school and jv games not get played this season unfortunately.
Due to shortage of softball umps this season, a lot of MS games were worked with one umpire. And I am talking right here in the NW NC.

Will it come down to what schools can pay more to the officials and provide meals, etc?

It's crazy world we live in these days. Dealing with parents living their dreams through their kids was bad enough when coaching. Having to deal with them as an official. Not enough pay for that. I'd be packing if I ref'ed games today.
