I am far from a Gavin apologist but anyone who doesnt see improvement isnt watching. Yeah he needs to get more accurate and yeah, he made a big mistake today but hes a 19 yr old who basically has played 1 full season of college FB between last year and this year. Still lots of upside. Still very good dual threat, runs read option well and will improve. After Michigan everyone was praising him. He needs some weapons and we need a more balanced offense against good teams.
Before today yes improvement. To defend GW after today is stupid. He lost momentum before halftime!

We had several WRs wide open today and Gavin overthrew almost all of them. He has improved. He went from unplayable to a kid now who simply isn’t accurate between 8-35 yarss downfield. Without a dominant running game you can’t win avoiding that area of the field.

I mean Wisconsin plays the game way differently if that 14 point swing doesn't happen.
Who created that 14 point swing at the worst part in the game. Throw it away and kick the field goal from inside the 10 yard line. Game on!

You want to play Simon or the kid that’s fine. They’re not moving the needle either.
They aren't making the big mistake either. What is the positive of GW today? The defense was awesome today. Until the multiple 3 and outs in a row.

Who said it was a WR problem? Funny everyone wants to look at one play. He made a bad throw. It happens. But really overall hes stayed away from that this year.

So you think he has good Wide Receivers?
have you been watching him all year? he's 50/50 on a decent throw! He is not a passer. Sure he'll make the occasional throw but man so many of his balls look bad

With the kicker who missed an extra point? You practice what you practice, then it’s all a gamble.

Who said it was a WR problem?
Actually you did. "How about we get him some real WR besides a True Freshman, a Transfer from D2, an undersized slot man and a converted QB who might be the most overhyped player on the roster. We still have zero playmakers and when we play anyone good,"

You can argue how good they are, but I saw plenty of open guys today have balls sail 10 feet over their head or behind them. And last week. And the week before. Hell Dremel was running scot free and Wimsatt threw it out of the stadium. Hope I'm wrong but I just don't see him improving.

And the whole "he's young" thing is getting played out. Yeah I get he came in early, but this is now his 3rd season in the program. Serious question. How long do we wait for the lightbulb to come on? Is he given a pass this whole season? Do we stick with him for two more seasons after this? At what point do results matter over potential?
It's a disservice to that defense who brings it every week, only to trot right back on the field.
Ok rant over, time to go salvage my Saturday. ✌️

We’ve seen the Evan show. I’m not interested in the sequel but again Wimsatt isn’t getting it done either. At this point, play it out with Wimsatt, we have the Surace kid coming next year, but we need to get a real vet QB to compete for the starting job next year.

He needs a good QB coach. They’ve had plenty of time to make him at least look like a P5 QB. He even fails the eye test. He stands too stiffly, never looks comfortable running, cannot, I say again cannot run the RPO. He scares no one on the outside and can’t stretch the defense. He does have some skill sets but the OC ignores them.

Honestly, I’m not sure how you could put GW on Kirk. I agree some play calls don’t make sense but the biggest issue with Gavin is his accuracy. An OC really can’t fix that. The vertical seam route was a classic example. WR wide open, no pressure on QB, and airmailed him by 10 yards.

There are better QBs on this team. That's ok right?
The answer at QB is never actually playing. He's in the portal, on the bench, in high school, or on some other team after transferring out. The problem is that all the starting QBs over the last decade or so get the same bad coaching and ill-concieved offensive philosophy. This is why every QB who's supposed to be the answer to RU's problems never is.

Not an OC. A QB coach.

I asked this to the chagrin of the cult but it bears asking, 'why would you send your kid to play here?' After watching the debacle hiring an OC, the portal and qb development, you'd have to be nuts to send your kid to play offense here

Later this month he will be 20, will you still use his age as an excuse?

He’s already working with a biomechanics coach. But let’s be honest — you can either put it on target or you can’t. This isn’t 10 years ago. There’s no reason to give the program to this kid. Go get someone who can play the position. If Gavin improves this offseason and beats him out, again, awesome.

I think we are seeing what might be the ceiling for this offense. Too much has to go right. A competent imaginative O would have been in position to win this game. Until we have a much better offense 6-6 is also our ceiling.

On the play calling side of it

Scored a TD on the same play twice at the goal line
Last week . Why not roll out and give GW the option to run or pass ??
We ran it more than that. Pretty much every time we got inside the 5 this year. Wisconsin had two weeks to prepare and knew it was coming, they even said so in postgame comments. It was a stupid play call and the coaching staff should have known better, that they would scout it and know how to bait him into the throw. They simply switched from man to zone on that particular play.

1.4M should get us more…seems like we have 6 maybe 7 plays.

Better not see that throw from far hash to boundary on goal line situations for a while. They used that to avoid INTs. Ooops. I blame the typical play call after wasting 40 seconds and forcing them to throw.
