As to improvement, the stats, at the moment, say otherwise. He’s a great kid, but poor placement, lots of overthrows. Hope he gets it together

Ok, so when are our fans going to understand college eligibility? Gavin is an Upper classman, a junior, you’re talking about him as ‘the kid’ over Simon as though we have so much more time to develop. Gavin’s got 1 year left after this year. He’s not a kid who just stepped onto campus anymore. For context, he’s got the same amount of eligibility remaining as JJ McCarthy and a full year LESS than Drew Allar.
Gavin’s no ‘kid’ anymore in cfb terms. He’s got a year and a half of eligibility left
Thanks for your usual contribution with no substance and full of insults. Why don't you try adding to the conversation? Why do I even read these threads? Same clowns after a loss blaming the QB. No football knowledge in the first dozen posts which is all I read. It’s all I need to read. Same clowns every year who also killed Teel and Nova after subpar games. How many of you can fit in a VW?
The thing is Wimsatts job hasn't been to throw for 300 yards and run for 100. His job has been to not make mistakes. He failed at his job today and itay have costed them the game.
I'm not throwing him under the bus. Players have bad games. He's been a net positive for every other game imo. But he's still the starting QB and a leader and should take accountability. He didn't get the job done.Yes he flubbed two games with a pick. But we played 6 games. How about the others? Seems like a little wild to throw the guy under the bus for a fraction of the games.

I'm not quick to criticize. But I'm criticizing. Unless there is major improvement, I don't see Gavin starting next year.Well as you have seen over the years they have done this since before Schiano was here the first time. Hell they criticized Fortay, Lucas, Erney , McMahon, Savage etc. the list goes on. It is time people realize we could go 11-2 and they would complain. Ok to disagree but you see how this is going. Rutgers , Schiano and the offensive staff needs to keep chopping. Done responding to several here who only like to beat up on a 19 year oldQB really learning as you go.
Or worse, "Ajani Shepherd should start the fourth quarter".I didn't say you were but am more pointing the insane posts and comments- personal favorite is Simon should start. I am not sure how a college QB takes accountability in a way he isn't at the moment.

I personally hope for the best for Gavin, I don’t blame Gavin for the loss, he has list of positives this year.Or worse, "Ajani Shepherd should start the fourth quarter".![]()
Did you see Ray Lucas in the early part of his time here. He was not an accurate passer . Great arm , great speed …even McMahon who for those fortunate enough was perhaps the most talented that I saw from a physical stature pre 2 K . Savage as well ….what happened with Tom is well known . People blamed Greg Schiano . Our O line was piss poor. Savage got beaten up.He is trying to not let that happen to Gavin . So in doing that it is possibly a main reason Gavin doesn’t scramble more often. So remember this is a dramatically better conference.Blaming the complaints on negativity or same old narratives isn't accurate. The fan base loved Lucas and McMahon never ran a limited playbook to pamper him while developing. It's true that the passing stats were serviceable in other games this season but Virginia tech was a red flag some acknowledged and other chose to ignore. The other games were not good measures of much in terms of big ten success.
With GW, we can't even pass to running backs out of the backfield. Now to be fair, he does show some real potential at times but is wildly inconsistent. I don't think it is unreasonable to make the argument that other qbs on the roster with less of that occasional wow factor might be better suited to help us win in the present. This take may not be realistic, but it doesn't have to be about negativity.
Isn't the point to win? In other words, maybe with no guarentee of future development (more wins later), isnt it reasonable to discuss varying ways to potentially get more wina in the present? Isn't this what fans do?
Well said.I personally hope for the best for Gavin, I don’t blame Gavin for the loss, he has list of positives this year.
That said it’s ok to have an opinion based on observations and stats= his accuracy is not improving. It not an outlandish conclusion based on what we have seen thus far.
The way Gavin is playing he is not losing us games. That said he is not winning them either.
I am marking this post for future reference AJ
Is the real deal.
Ray Lucas and GW are not comparable especially on the accuracy argument especially after Ray had 10 games under his beltDid you see Ray Lucas in the early part of his time here. Lucas was all over the place even in year 2.Ray Lucas and GW are not comparable especially on the accuracy argument especially after Ray had 10 games under his belt
Did they win those games because of him? I would say the defense had more to do with that then the QB. Just because you are winning doesn't mean you can't bench a guy. When you are ranked 101 in Passing efficiency, 117 in passing yards then it is very reasonable to think a change at QB is needed.Walk the plank, Gavin! Even though we were 4-1 going against a 14pt favorite on the road and only lost by 11, let's get rid of you. We just can't win with you!
Even though you've made some great throws, you're not as accurate as we "experts" think you should be. You guys are freakin jokes.
67% on the year with 1 TD!Simon has got to have a better completion rate than 44%!
That might have won games 30 years ago but in todays game you need production out of the QB position. That is why Rutgers offense continues to struggle. The thing is Wimsatts job hasn't been to throw for 300 yards and run for 100. His job has been to not make mistakes. He failed at his job today and itay have costed them the game.
When Schiano mentions it during halftime ( as he did last week) you know he knows it's a serious issue. Not sure what he plans to do. Can't imagine him taking Gavin out. Will need to let Gavin use his strengths and let him run.We keep getting less-than-mediocre quarterback play because so many of our fans accept it. What else could be the reason that we end up in the same debate year after year?
I think if we don’t see vast improvement in the MSU game, we need to start seeing the other QB have some play time. Tyler Buchner, ND starter last year, sitting on Alabama bench will be in the portal next year. Half the top 25 teams have QB that transferred from another team.Well said.
In FBS you have to have a QB that can win you some games or at least give you a chance. We have neither. A game mgr. is fine for middling programs. Wimsatt has played in 18 games now so those who keep bringing up his inexperience that excuse is weak.
For the program to improve beyond 4-5 wins per year we need to give QB Shepard and AJ the opportunity.
How many passes? Sure it sounds good but you don’t leave Gavin out to dry over a bad pass interception. You give him the next game for certain. You would just like to see a QB controversy.67% on the year with 1 TD!
Who is this “WE “ you keep referencing?T

I think we would be Schiano and the OC since they will make the decision. It would be a mistake to keep expecting improvements next year without competition. Schiano and the OC aren‘t comfortable with GW skills presently or we would have opened up the passing game. We need a backup plan immediately not when GW graduates in two more years.Who is this “WE “ you keep referencing?

They way it sounded I thought maybe it was you and a friend? Yes it would be Schiano and Kirk Ciarrocca making the decision when and if to make a QB switch.I think we would be Schiano and the OC since they will make the decision. what? GW has hit many in stride for big gains or long TDs.While you are right and this is definitely a small sample, Simon hit the rb in stride; something GW can't seem to do based on the much bigger sample of work he has.
Why is it that Schiano is happy with having game managing QB’s who aren’t accurate passers. Noting, Schiano hand picked both Noah and GW, shouldn’t we pick QB’s who are both and not settle? Schiano has personally chosen to move forward with only game managing QB’s that will maybe win 3, 4, 5, or even 6 games a season if we are lucky….so instead of trying other QB’s on the roster or getting a new QB from the portal….we just continue to promote/develop below average passers to be good game managers because then my job isn’t at risk and I can convince the fan base and AD that we are still a developmental program going into year 5! Minimum risk, while I laugh my way to the bank….Lucas was never sub 50% completion % in any of his seasons, though GW is managing turnovers a bit better when comparing sophomore seasons.
There is no debate the big ten is a tougher schedule. That's very true.
Costed ?The thing is Wimsatts job hasn't been to throw for 300 yards and run for 100. His job has been to not make mistakes. He failed at his job today and itay have costed them the game.
