Giving up 460 yards a game

On top of last year 440 yards

We can talk all we want about who the Qb should be, the running back rotation, missing carroo, etc...

But the bottom line is we are giving up 33 points a game and 460 yards a game a year after giving 32 ppg and 440 yards...and a year removed from giving up 30 ppg and 410 yards per game in the AMERICAN

Our defense is getting worse each year we are further removed from Greg Schiano...numbers don't lie

Furthermore...we used to have a defensive identity that forced teams to adjust to us to beat us. Small, fast, agreessixe, slashing and causing turnovers

Now
-we cause no turnovers. Key word is CAUSE. We don't strip other players. We don't hit hard to get shots at causing fumbles

-we have a different game plan every week. We are playing to the other team instead of playing a style making other adjust to us

-we really don't play many played in the back 7. We are tired in the back 7 later in games

Until we change the defensive trend...we have totally maxed out at 7-5 and will regress from here. Maybe badly

And I don't see a staff that tells me we can fix this defense.

This is one of the reasons why I think Flood has to go. Granted, this year the defense is depleted, but it just hasn't seem to have shown any improvement from year to year.

Great post. I was thinking about this last night. On top of what you mentioned, our defense used to score points. Our 2011 record would have unimpressive without the pts scored by our defense. Commentators on XM this morning qualified their praise of OSU by saying " they did play one of worst defenses in the big ten and CFB". I think if Flood dismisses this stat as he has in the past of youth, inexperience, and the recent loss of 5 players in the secondary, it won't get fixed.

I refuse to believe that we have the worst defensive players in CFB regardless of our issues...

I think you have to factor in the lack of any sustained drives after the opening. The defense clearly wore down from the second quarter on. Not saying it was a bigger factor, but we are lacking in every facet of the game right now.

Got killed in the trenches in the second half when Elliot was blowing past the linebackers after the first burst.

Shift, unfortunately - and many of us said this last year - this is where BOTH our lack of size at LB, as well as depth, takes its toll. We "love" our LB's, however, they're not going to get it done, in the B1G, in this division, until we start getting bigger boys in that unit. Bottom line.

No disagreement. I am just not going to piss about it all day. Got to turn the page, and move on to Wisconsin. We should not get blown out next week. Michigan is going to be a tall task.

Wondering what Julie/Bob's rationalization will be for not making a move if there are 1 or 2 more blowout losses.

Nuts

Our linebackers have good speed yet are always a step behind the play

That is coaching....

maybe the D would do better if the offense had a pulse... how many 3 and outs do we have? We probably lead the nation in 3 and out.

My guess is that what Julie wants/thinks is different than what Bob wants/thinks (to an extent).

Gause and Longa hadd 34 tackles against OSU, to say they are the problem is just wrong.

Lewis and the DL should take a majority of the blame but not Longa and Gause.

They HAD to combine for 34 tackles, lol, there was pretty much no way around it and - IIRC - many of those tackles were from the side and/or behind, no? Listen, I love those guys, but we NEED bigger LB's IMHO.

The reaction time of the lb is slow

They have good 40 times

Reaction time for a lb is about recognition...that again is coaching

4.7 guys can play 4.5 with very good coaching

I find our line backers play slower than they are...coaching again

Anyone expecting great defensive performances after the defensive back field losses we took in September is just announcing you don't know squat about coaching IMO. I don't pretend to know what kind of Coordinator Coach Rossi really is, but I sure as hell am not judging him based on the personnel we have left.

I realize you are talking about the linebackers, but I would venture to say the guys OSU has in the back field have made lots of talented players look bad. Or were my eyes deceiving me last year when I thought their offense was shredding everybody.

Julie needs to push harder then. Although, I had a friend do this in a high level position with the CEO and his job was eliminated a week after the pushing. So, there is a balance. Tough position with a tough boss who made his position known.

I can't argue with this, because I really don't know. Sounds reasonable though. I do appreciate your balanced perspective. We have a few good-sized linebackers committed though. I hope they get here.

This is a two and half year TREND. Read my post ...this is not about ohio state. This is about 2 1-2 years

For 2 1-2 years ...ita always something. Else

When it's always something else...that points that it's coaching

I'll give flood credit as the offense has been AS A TREND got better in the last three years. Our offense the last three years is better than 2009-2010-2011-2012

But out defense is seriously regressing

So the DB losses explain the lack of a pass rush, sacks, and TFL's, too? Stop, please Ag, I'm begging you right now.
