Roster construction, scouting, pricing, negotiating, interacting with agents, budget management. These are the things we need someone doing full time. Shaheen cannot be expected to coach and also handle these functions.

But @NCAAsorBust said the GM will be revamping how our team is built and Sha will just have to accept what he says      Sharp as a cue ball this guy
You are so funny. Comedian of on3. We got a guy who no one thought was worth the price to retain and our big money athletics department said that's the guy I want. But this fan base has gone from being too good for 1st round losses in the NCAA tournament to it was a good year despite not making the tournament. Talk about being sharp.

The joke is when you define this role of the guy who will be giving Sha all the analytics. That's a whole new system of how to get kids. Have we done that in the past? It's revamping how we go about getting minor league players. There's going to be glitches in how they work together. It's a guarantee.

It’s a good idea to have a GM and hopefully this is the right guy.

He must be really into the transfer thing though as he’s had 4 jobs in the last 4 years.
Ideally you'd like a guy with some longevity somewhere. But the 4 jobs in 4 years involved some leaving for better jobs and Head coaching changes.

- Spent 5 years at LSU as DOBO (17-22)

- Left to a lower conference but promotion to a full Assistant Coach/Recruiting Director job at Fresno St (22-23)

- Left for Director of Player Development at Oklahoma State (23-24)

- Left after Mike Boynton and staff were fired

- Took GM role at West Virginia (24-25) when Devries was hired. Devries left for Indiana after 1 year although apparently they had issues and he was not going to be retained.

- Took General Manager job at Virginia Tech

More is lost by indecision than wrong decision.

So this is a Will Wade guy then? Didn’t realize he worked on his staff for so long.

Sharpest guy on the board and sopranos expert. How much indecision did we have the last 4 years?

In sopranos terms, we've been bumped off as far as the NCAA tournament goes.
So your solution is to conclude that it was a bad idea to hire a GM? Maybe we should just permanently stay in the year 2000. I thought people were upset because we DIDN'T have a GM yet, now you're upset because we do? I don't understand your panic over this lol. You’re like a woman with a Virginia ham under her arm crying the blues because she has no bread.

I've said it 5 times. Go read the part after where I mentioned revamping that you called out 5 times. The guy hasn't been in meetings with Sha for a week, you think he knows what Sha is looking for, yet he's going to be providing Sha all the information he needs to determine who he goes after and doesn't go after? That's pretty idiotic in my opinion. People who go in and implement things immediately usually regret it. Usually you wait, learn the systems, the people, the flow of how things work at the new job then see where you can improve things and make it better. That's why I said I think this guy shouldn't be doing too much this portal season. Too many new parts at the most critical time. Permanently staying in 2000 and getting the #1 recruiting class would eventually pay off.

Hey genius, there's a new invention called the telephone. We even have mobile ones now. You're out of your depth. Let Coach Sha worry about it. I could tell someone what I'm looking for in a text message. You think this guy is just gonna go out there without speaking to Sha first?

And furthermore, so your solution is to not have anyone hired until next year? Further yet, you don't think Sha already has a good idea of who he wants? They watch and stay up on kids all year, and a lot of these kids they've watched since middle school. I don't get the panic.

Genius let me know when an NFL or NBA GM gets hired the week before the draft and they do everything by phone.

It would've made sense to hire someone 6 weeks ago and be onsite, see the practices, see the games, go over them with the coach. Furthermore if Sha has a good idea of who he wants, GM sounds like a redundant job. It's not panic, it's seeing something that looks like a failure waiting to happen and just pointing it out. No different than SHU09 saying we wouldn't be a tournament team when we were 14-2.
