Other than Brian Cashman, name two GM’s that’s lasted more than 6 years. It’s a useless position that has been glorified by media.
What?! Haha
Riley
Bob Myers would’ve been there forever if he wanted (now donleavy will break 6 years)
Dombroski
Ravens rarely change gms
Steelers rarely change gms
Joe S giants will likely pass6 years

There are lots

And again you have no clue what you’re saying..these GMs are not a pro model at all

But thanks for adding zero to the discussion the board appreciates it

And he's got about 5 days to do it. Next question is how receptive will a basketball coach who has been doing his own scouting the last 3 weeks, I'm sure dealing with handlers, going to handle it when the new guy says no you got it wrong.
What’s the difference between GM having 5 days to learn the portal targets and Sha having an extra 10 days to learn the portal targets. Meaningless statement

So doing something because everybody else is doing it makes it right? In 2-3 weeks. ESPN and every other college basketball website will release a list of the top players in the portal. We’re going to pay somebody well into the 6 figures to do the same thing?
ESPN is a clown show so that’s a dumb argument.

Arguing ESPN as a credible source is the sign it’s time to stop typing
Our GM’s list is worth 300-500k per year? For 4-5 months of work? Keep dreaming this is some magical solution. When Hines demands more than we can pay him. What’s the GM gonna do? Oh

It’s less than that. Sha has struggled in the portal and struggled building a complete balanced roster. He needs help doing so

I did multiple times lol

You keep making it seem like a pro model it’s not really like that
No, I said we’re paying a man for 4-5 months of work that basically anybody could do. Still waiting on what the assistant coaches will be doing. Might as well start paying them per diem for each official practice/game..

You guessed as to what a GM will do. None of your posts mentioned what the assistant coaches will do? Solid reading comprehension by you.
I did mention what the assistants do on page one. You have the reading comprehension issue.

He’s already been scouting the potential portal players at his prior job; we all recruit the same kids.
It’s not like he’s not recruiting from an entirely different pool of kids.

He’s just got to bring his thoughts in with what Shaw is looking for and put that together.

Like someone else said, I think it’s most important part of his role is to negotiate with the agents and do the outreach during the season when Shaw has a little something else keeping him busy… Running the team.

Will the GM negotiate with the board of trustees and get the money needed to be for real?? Otherwise what’s the point?? Playing with chump change gets you what??

You need a GM to be able to effectively negotiate and allow Sha to maintain a good coaching bond with the players.

There are many reasons the GM role makes great sense .
I've never been against a GM. I think showing up this late to the party in 2026 is not good for this portal season. What you're responding to has nothing to do with not wanting a GM at all.

He was fired from VT in November.. so he’s had nothing but time to scout

Doug Armstrong - St. Louis Blues - 16 years
Mickey Loomis - New Orleans Saints - 24
years
Ken williams - White Sox - 23 years
Howie Roseman - Philadelphia Eagles - 13 years
John Schneider - Seattle Seahawks - 13 years
Les Snead - LA Rams - 12 years
Jason Licht - Tampa Bay Bucs - 12 years
Chris Grier - Miami Dolphins - 8 years

in fact if you research it. MLB has more than 17 people listed as their organizations top operations executive for than 6 years.

Maa

Maybe I am the only one that is confused...but I saw a post about a guy from LSU, a guy from Virginia Tech, and now a guy from West Virginia.

One guy was connected to Willard or something, another was fired in November, another is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Does anyone have the concise, succinct summary of whatever it is that is going on re SHU and a GM type job?
