I've noticed a lot of coaches this year don't bother punting or kicking field goals. Even on fourth and long. Seems like it's cost a few of them games because they didn't get points when they could have earlier. What's the deal lol?

Thx for getting the humor of my post. I was afraid it would turn into an analytical debate!!

Also, fake FGs are the devil…….but in all seriousness, I am old school and don’t understand how you ever take points off the board. I get the whole “a FG is -4”, but you aren’t going to score a TD every possession. Complimentary FG, end score is the only score that matters!!

If we are thinking of the same guy, he won like 9-10 high school state championships. Moved up to FCS program this past season.

He based his entire philosophy on either an economist or a mathematician. I think ESPN or someone did a story on him once. Kind of cool.

In the age of no defense and high powered offense I think coaches are trying to chase points. But if you have a good defense you can win with a kicking game.

Yes. He coached at Presbyterian College for a season. He’s no longer coaching football. I was really hoping he’d stick around and see if he could make it work. Unfortunately, he didn’t do himself any favors by choosing Presbyterian. They aren’t committed to a football program, in fact, they don’t even let their players register for classes early. I can’t imagine how hard it is to do football when you can’t guarantee that your athletes have a favorable schedule.

I'm kind of anti-punting in high school ball after reading some articles about that coach a few years back. I started taking note of what teams are actually netting on punts, and so many times it's 15 - 20 yards, and a lot of times less than that. There are a few good punters in high school that can really flip the field for you (those guys are weapons), but so many teams would do better to roll the dice and go for it if they have any reasonable chance of converting.
