So many great places down there that it’s hard to go wrong. One of my favorites is Cochon and that is probably walkable from your hotel (depends on the preference of the crowd…. Probably about 1/2 mile)
can’t go wrong with that.
I’d also add the Redfish Grill just for the bread pudding. You have to order it when you sit down.
Lunch at Casamento's, walk around Magazine a little, get a Lyft or whatever to Cooter Browns for libations, then right outside you can catch the Streetcar for a ride through the garden district and back almost right to your hotel.

Huge fan of the port Orleans brewery and tchoup yard for drinks. Urban south is okay.
mid city yacht club is another cool place for drinks as is the wrong iron.
fancy breakfast pastries laboulangerie and some of the best beignets the vintage on magazine or morning call in midtown.
if you like Thai food. Sukko Thai is great.
Bbq central city is pretty good even though I never go that often.
Mothers is way over rated for the tourist lines.
Wills Jean is good.
Namaste Indian is good
Galliers oyster poboy
Dominica Italian isn't bad but it's hard to get a table and pricey to me for what it is.
Hell if you like straight fried seafood. Deannies had some of the best fried oysters the last time I went.
Gianna is another good Italian spot that we have met people at at.
jauns flying burrito has some kick *** burritos the one with the shrimp and beef worth it.

Mr Ed's is hit or miss I got oysters poboy from the one near causeway that almost broke my teeth from shell. Haven't been back but it used to be good.

Port o call I can't stand shredded cheese on a burger and it seems to be a New Orleans thing. Drives me crazy
I don't get the Mother's hype. Concur with Sukko Thai and Saba. Vincents is great for old school Italian

I wouldn’t waste my time for lunch - not anymore anyway - too many other good places.
Asking for recommendations for food in NOLA is about like asking 10 people how to cook crawfish.

I take free meals to go along as a New Orleans guide. I can guide you around 95% of the tourist traps (I mean potholes)
also our homeless people complain if you say you have money and no you won't pay with cash app or Venmo either

I don’t mind sprinkling some Tony C’s on the crawfish once they been dumped but that’s only after they have soaked in the water for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Once you get outside of the popular ones already mentioned, there is so much. And there is nothing wrong with the popular ones for the most part.
You could make 40 trips to New Orleans, eat at different places each time, and there would still be great restaurants left to try.
Two not mentioned that we like are Beggars Banquet and Luvi. Two of the cooler restaurants you will ever try regardless of city. If you go to Luvi, get the Feed Me. There are very few of this type of restaurant in the south.
If you are looking for old school like Brennan’s or Commanders Palace, these are not that. And there is nothing wrong at all with those places. This is just something different.

IMO Drago's has the best Charbroiled Oysters anywhere. Worth just grabbing some to go. I will be doing so on my trip to Nola this weekend.

Yeah. Mothers was pretty average even back in the day. I haven't been in over 20 years, but I doubt it's gotten better.

Another vote for Jaques Imo’s . Feels like a true New Orleans experience when you go there. Uber driver turned us on to it 5-6 years ago and I always make it a point to go when in town now.

Just make sure your boobs are well groomed and tanned. You can't get alot of beads otherwise.
Lots of good suggestions here. If you're bringing in guys from out of town who have never been here then you're kind of obligated to take them to Cafe Du Monde. You can go to the one in the quarter and go to a separate window that's on the river side of the restaurant that's the to-go window, cash only but it skips the line. Or skip the quarter all together and go to their location in city park, very little wait there typically.

I stopped going to guys. Every time I've gone in there it seem like I was an inconvenience or they were just a terrible mood. I found good poboys elsewhere and a better menu.
Adam's street grocery makes a dang good poboy but better call ahead. Domilise never picks up the phone. I don't go on Fridays. It's usually out the door. Guys can have nobody and they act inconvenienced. I forgot about crabby jacks.
I can't believe nobody has mentioned Central Grocery in the French Quarter! You CANNOT leave N'awlins until you get a Muffuletta at CG. Best damn sandwich you will ever eat in your life. Pricey, but most people can get 2-4 meals out of just one.
