I think we can all agree that Grayson has a problem that needs to be fixed. It seems to me that it is just a complete instinct for him to throw his leg up before he even has time to think about what he is doing and that's not something easy to fix. He regrets it afterwards and I feel he is truly sorry afterwards but I think it is something that happens so quick that by the time he realizes what he is doing it is too late. I don't condone it at all but instinctive behavior is difficult to change and I hope he can figure out how to get it under control.

You could make the same excuse for someone with a gun in their hand pulling a trigger, or a man punching a woman.

And just because the 3 players he tripped did not get hurt does not mean they could not have been hurt.

That is the problem here. Everyone on the court is playing a game not expecting to be tripped. When you don't expect something to happen as an athlete, that is normally when you get hurt.

The sad part is, as bad as it is that he tripped a 3rd player for no reason, his reaction afterward is most troublesome.

The jury is still out on whether he is truly sorry.

You could actually ask does he really even understand what he did?

The jury is not out on if he is truly sorry, if you ask me: it seems clear, by both his words and his actions, that he is.

And you can ask if he knows what he did, and the answer is most assuredly "yes."

He is a 21 year old athlete with a temper problem. He isn't a sociopath or completely divorced from reality.

... I'll take all the fire you've got on this one, but my view can't be changed. What he did was childish, unprofessional, embarrassing and uncalled for... worse than Suliamon ...
All those allegations of sexual assault was just locker room talk, huh?

I understand that all the media bashing of Grayson is warranted but let's remember this, he is a Junior in college, I know I did not make the best desicions when I was his age. Hopefully he can get his mind right. I have 100 percent faith in Grayson Allen as a person and a player.
None of us makes the best decisions at that age... and when we got caught, we got ripped for those decisions, as we should have. It's not forgetting that we were young once, too; it's remembering what helped us grow out of it. Contrary to popular belief, we don't just grow out of these things naturally. I'd point to countless immature adults who clearly never did grow out of it as examples. No, we grow out of it b/c we're held accountable and people don't put up with our young, immature BS.

However, that faith you mention explicitly is important, and the love and compassion implied. Our own parents, coaches, teachers, and other mentors were instrumental in our eventually growing out of such stupidity. They clearly cared for us. That matters more than all the unrestrained retributive actions by others.

Report on ESPN said, "ACC coaches watching close to see what happened, and some concerns stated to league office". Coach K sure looked like he was defending the behavior when he was debating he ref last night and his message to the media last night was not a real strong statement of denouncing of the actions. Look, Coach K opened himself of for this when he put himself in the place of managing behavior of the Oregon player last year. Should have the Elon coach said something to Allen? Coach K needed to come out strong last night about how the behavior was going to be corrected. He didn't so it gives the appearance to being soft.
Dude, do you get your takes almost verbatim from Steven A? lol

1000 wins and 5 national titles... and his words to the Oregon player 12 games ago is what opened him up for this. Sure.

To have expected K to go into full disciplinarian mode in the middle of the game is ridiculous. As for his "not a real strong statement of denouncing of the actions," he denounced it in the postgame, and he denounced it the next day... while announcing his indefinite suspension! What more would you ask for?

Good for us
Way to early to discuss whether he will be back or not, but if the hatred and negative attention is getting to him this much then I don't see how he comes back, unless he isn't going to be drafted completely and needs more time to prove he has changed. He is a kid who truly wants to be liked & isn't cut from the same old as a Laettner or Redick. Grayson has a lot to lose from all of this & how he responds to it will decide his future.

You say if he played any where else. This would be an after thought already. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING. If he played at Kentucky, he would have been crucified by the national media after the first tripping incidence last season. No, the reason he & Duke is catching such hell over this is because he did this 2 times last season & Kryzyewski didn't suspend him then. And on top of that, I didn't watch your Duke game last night. But it's my understanding that coach K put him back in the game after it happened. If Allen doesn't get himself under control. Sooner or later he's going to cause a free for all riot.

LOL. What is it with you kitty cats and your strange complex. You all try and act as if Kentucky gets no calls/breaks and that everyone is out to get only YOU. Just stop it. You play in an absolute s**t conference that allows you to rack up wins every year and yes, Kentucky gets more than their share of home cooking. Get lost.

The problem is it was coming from the ACC so Coach K had no choice. I love Coach K and respect everything he stands for but something is wrong. Coach K talks to a kid from Oregon's team about his behavior but is defending Allen last night.

How about maybe K didn't even see everything until he was able to review it after the fact?? You haters are something else.

It absolutely does, but that doesn't make it right! Sit back and think about the absolute amazement off this situation. Their is an ESPN writer that thinks there should be jail time for assault. Yes, F'ing jail time! Come on man!

Seriously?!! LOL!!! I didn't see that. What Duke hating losers.

The kid tripped someone. OMG suspend him for the entire season and force K to retire. This is outrageous and should be talked about by every media outlet in the country unlike the star RB beating the **** out of a woman. It should get more run than the rape cover ups at Baylor and the undeniable cheating that goes on in the $EC.

Note: sarcasm

Good grief this is ridiculous.

Not to mention the Tar Hole academic scandal that is slowly being swept under the rug.

Another interesting perspective from Grayson's high school coaches.
I had a similar observation about Justise Winslow's two foot-related fouls a couple seasons ago: reaching out with an arm is a commonplace, forgettable foul; might doing so with a foot be similar, just more alarming-looking? I mean, had he done basically the same thing, but with a hip, or a knee, or an arm, or if his foot was planting instead of being in the air when the Elon player hit it...

Everyone involved knows him extremely well. They will handle it and he will come back and play the rest of his career without problems. He's a fierce competitor.

I pay zero attention to the media. I hope GA grows up and will continue to have a great career. Trust in K.

Coach K suspended him. He can DO whatever Coach k says he can do. Coach is trying to get through to him on this, what people don't seem to understand, Coach K is a private person and he's not going to toss out every little detail when it comes to issues like this. K is a pro at dealing with young men and helping them see the light , Ive seen it so many times.

Coach K should have suspended him after the second tripping incident. Had that happened, this would be in the rear view mirror as we speak. When Williams and Bilas comment on a national broadcast, it is past time to act.

For the sake of the young man, I hope Coach K can make a breakthrough.

Are you serious? C'mon, dude....you're looking more stupid in this post than in the last. And that's not easy.

So a "report" is what you're basing this off of? And how in holy hell were you able to glean from Wednesday night that "K sure looked like he was defending the behavior" when he was arguing with the ref? Are you f'ing kidding me.

The bottom line is that no matter what Coach K did --- NO MATTER WHAT!!! --- you weren't going to like it or were going to find fault. It's like the idiots at THR yesterday. First, they said Coach K wouldn't do anything, then when he suspended Grayson indefinitely they changed their narrative to say it wasn't enough or that he was caving to the pressure. Stop being so damn stupid!

The first two were very different, though. Hardly the same thing at all. The second one was blatantly retaliatory. There could have been a double tech on that one. Three is three, whatever the differences.

I stayed away intentionally so I could flesh out some reasons and things being said around the program.

Some thoughts and things I have heard:

1. Someone mentioned this already, GA does NOT have the same mindset as Laettner or Redick. He does NOT thrive on the hatred and boos. It drives him crazy.

2. The pressure is and has absolutely gotten to him. Preseason player of the year? All american? Bad. But the pressure he puts on himself is harder (imo) which brings us to the outburst...

3. I have heard and deduced the outburst after the trip stems from the pressure he puts on himself. He was already upset on the court and for and split second he lost control and tripped. Not excusing it by any means, that is just what happened. The REASON he got so upset after is that he realized he had made a big mistake, something I am sure he had promised he would never do again. Then the pressure exploded. He had done what he swore he would never do.

4. Lastly, the suspension is exactly what he needs. He needs to realize that the pressure does not have to be on his shoulders. The team will survive without him. He needs to see that.

I don't mean any of this to excuse what he did. It was despicable and embarrassing for both he and Duke. Just trying to paint a picture.

Maybe I'm late to the game....but where have you seen this was something coming from the ACC and not Duke? Also, where did K defend Allen for his actions? I'm not saying neither are true, but I'm asking you to point me in the direction where I can learn what you're saying is true. Thanks!
Why would Coach K even put the kid back into the game after this kind of behavior. Im disappointed in Coach K! What would Coach K say if this was a kid from another school playing him?

Just stop, seriously. K has dealt with this team the right way since day 1. Talk about problems, coach ain't one.
When Coach K started giving the Oregon kid advice on behavior then he needed to be willing to do what was right on his end. Allen should have never gone back into the game and why he did is beyond reason. I love Coach K, but for once he is wrong!

How can you be so sure?
It would have been resolved with the young man turning it around or going the other route and being dismissed. I would imagine everyone understands that when Coach K puts his foot down, he means business. He is not the most successful college coach by accident.

I was disappointed K put Grayson back in the game. Beyond that, I love how he has dealt with everything since then. Love it that K doesn't give the media what they want and publicly pile on the kid. Love it that he's still looking out for him. Media wants K to be apologetic lol get the hell out of here.

I didn't agree with K putting him back in the game. That said, it's over and done with. There's nothing you or I can change about it now. And I'm sorry you're disappointed. It breaks my heart you feel that way.

I didn't (don't) have time to read all the posts in this thread. What Grayson did was immature, childish, disrespectul, stupid...(you name it), and it has to stop. But, he hasn't bit any ears off or caved any faces in yet so I don't think he needs to be officially executed. A suspension of 1, 2, or 3 games seems about in order. Don't think Grayson is a bad kid, just immature, and lacking discipline. I suspect, and hope, that can be remedied by some old fashioned discipline. He'll learn or he'll be gone.

Oh, petulant behavior doesn't just apply to players. Coaches (plenty old enough to know better) constantly getting away with behavior that would land their players in trouble.

Ol'Roy's coat tossing incident against UK...didn't see any punishment handed down. A button, or pen in the pocket, etc. could have scratched the eye of his player when it hit him.
And Roy also threw a coat in anger against William & Mary in 2014 (probably others). See a pattern? See any punishment? Hear any outroar? Of course not. And UNC fans (THR?) complain about K, Grayson, & Duke...while having no problem with this...even applauding it. Give me a damn break.

Agree with DJ. Didn't agree with him going back in the game at all but other than that I don't really see how K handled this incorrectly. The media is just pissed because they're not getting every detail they want or think they deserve about the situation.

He has answered that: He didn't really know the entirety of it until looking at it afterward.

When Coach K started giving the Oregon kid advice on behavior then he needed to be willing to do what was right on his end. Allen should have never gone back into the game and why he did is beyond reason. I love Coach K, but for once he is wrong!
How is that a valid comparison? He son'd an opposing player for obnoxious behavior and suspended his own player indefinitely for potentially harmful behavior.

The one time he was wrong that you've identified was in speaking to an opposing player in a critical way.
