I stand by by K, Duke and Grayson. They need to bring in somebody like Battier and talk to him about integrity and honor, on and off the court.
Another reason to bring in Shane, specifically: After all the departures following our runner-up finish in '99, he emerged as one of the surprising stars the next year, just like Grayson did last year. Chris Carrawell emerged just as much and rightly won ACC PoY, but Shane actually nipped him for the team lead in scoring, setting up even bigger expectations for the next year, again, just like Grayson.

While he did star, and was NPoY and NDPoY, he had some early season hiccoughs as he got used to Jason Williams' emergence as the top scorer. Perhaps part of Grayson's challenges this year include accepting that Luke is emerging as just as dynamic a scorer.

That's something Kyle Singler probably never really got enough credit for at Duke: He was expected to be the man going into every one of his soph, jr, and sr seasons, but G, then Jon, and then Nolan all ended up being the most decorated teammate. He and Nolan even ceded to Kyrie (appropriately) before he got injured. I never got any sense that Kyle ever got bent out of shape or envious or resentful or anything like that.

You don't know it wouldn't. It certainly would have saved Coach K and the program embarrassment.
You don't NOT know that it wouldn't!

Like referring to Gerald Henderson as a victim following Elbowgate '07, I suspect K is more than happy to take heat away from a player, and I think that's something to be proud of, not embarrassed by.

Why would K or Duke university be embarrassed? Because Grayson tripped three people and they didn't suspend him.
Last I checked K was over the team and the university over K so now we are saying both should listen to announcers and annaylist who get paid to talk and speak their opinions? Message board posters ?
I mean come on

He has answered that: He didn't really know the entirety of it until looking at it afterward.

How is that a valid comparison? He son'd an opposing player for obnoxious behavior and suspended his own player indefinitely for potentially harmful behavior.

The one time he was wrong that you've identified was in speaking to an opposing player in a critical way.

Ridiculous. He knew exactly what happened. What he didn't know was the amount disgust that was occurring across the airways. He's human, he's not perfect and that's ok. But don't be cult-like in your defense.

I didn't (don't) have time to read all the posts in this thread. What Grayson did was immature, childish, disrespectul, stupid...(you name it), and it has to stop. But, he hasn't bit any ears off or caved any faces in yet so I don't think he needs to be officially executed. A suspension of 1, 2, or 3 games seems about in order. Don't think Grayson is a bad kid, just immature, and lacking discipline. I suspect, and hope, that can be remedied by some old fashioned discipline. He'll learn or he'll be gone.

Oh, petulant behavior doesn't just apply to players. Coaches (plenty old enough to know better) constantly getting away with behavior that would land their players in trouble.

Ol'Roy's coat tossing incident against UK...didn't see any punishment handed down. A button, or pen in the pocket, etc. could have scratched the eye of his player when it hit him.
And Roy also threw a coat in anger against William & Mary in 2014 (probably others). See a pattern? See any punishment? Hear any outroar? Of course not. And UNC fans (THR?) complain about K, Grayson, & Duke...while having no problem with this...even applauding it. Give me a damn break.

He did. Anyone nitpicking him was going to do that no matter what he did short of sending him to the electric chair. Those losers and trolls aren't worth your time.

Exactly. I think K handled this the best he could have with the knowledge he had during the game without assuming GA guilty. He took his time, gathered the facts and handled it with a cool head. The ones that think differently are either stated in quote or fans worrying about walking with their heads down the next day. I choose to walk proudly knowing K handled it correctly.

Come on man. Say what the guy did didn't warrant sitting out the second half. Most would disagree but at least it's opinion based upon something subjective. To say the coach didn't know is laughable and makes you look disingenuous.

Oh, I'll be as cult-like as I want with regard to a sport where we fans pull for the same team year after year after year, where we will take a 104-103 win or an 80-55 win or a 55-54 win without complaint, and especially when I'm on my own home board. If anything, this would be the place for you to take the advice of someone's telling you not to be a conspiracy theorist in your attack on Coach K.

I love this approach.

"Every single person in the world felt Grayson should be suspended, but the guy who actually suspended him was the only person who DIDNT think he should be suspended, and he only did it because of public pressure, pressure he specifically referenced and said would play no part in it all."

Holy cow, the mental game of Twister it takes to get there is just astounding.

But sure. Those of us who go with the common sense approach, that a coach in the midst of a game isn't going to be disciplining a guy for something he may not have seen, given that he is coaching a game and not sitting at a TV, but that K's resulting suspension of Grayson (thanks to him seeing video of the incident after the game) makes sense given that everyone in the world, including K's former players, thought Grayson deserved a suspension.

You continue with the crazy approach that K is somehow different than everyone else on the planet, a West Point guy who doesn't believe in discipline (rather common, I hear!) and never was going to suspend Grayson, and only caved because of "pressure," which in reality wouldn't have much impact on his career or job or anything at all.

Makes sense. We should stop being so cult-like.

The kid made three simple mistakes. Not one soul was hurt or even came close.
Dang, it's like he made them break an ankle or miss two points for Christ sakes.
It's over with done he's suspended move on next game.
The kid has had enough it's like he committed a crime or something. I've dealt with kids that have done way more and got them back on the straight and narrow.
If we do this to a kid for trips g Christ sakes if a kid does anything else.

He should be suspended for 10 games. The first one was 100% on him, he did it, no one expected him to do that but he did. Even the second was 95% on him. He had done it before and hadn't been punished so you can't say no blame is on coach K. The third is at least 50% on coach K. It happened twice with no serious penalty and obviously whatever he did wasn't enough. At this point, if he suspends him anything less than 10 games, if there's a fourth, that is 100% on coach K. If a coach plays a player while knowing he is a danger to other players, that's on him. At this point, we know he's a danger. God forbid the next time someone does get hurt. At this point it's about protecting the other athletes. And, if there is a forth, he should never be allowed to play college ball again.

Me thinking that a head coach, at the game, watching the game, with five replays, when his player received a technical, on his end of the floor knew what happened is a conspiracy? Ok then.

Are you saying if the kid intentionally trips someone and somehow ends their career that you would then consider suspending him but because no one got hurt that the intent and action shouldn't matter?

That sounds like a very dangerous viewpoint to have.

I think that's a rather extreme hypothetical viewpoint to counter his with. Fact of the matter is no one, quite thankfully, got hurt. However intent obviously matters and none of Allen's actions in this regard were accidents. But to argue for a "3 game minimum" suspension is comparatively drastic considering past actions of other players and their consequences. Keep in mind the ACC suspended Montrezl Harrell only one game for throwing a punch during a game. And, IIRC, The B1G did absolutely nothing in regards to Adam Woodbury and his affinity for poking opposing players eyes.

Will say though that when you factor in the outburst on the bench, for everybody to see, the time out should lengthen as a result. I understand it was in the heat of the moment and he was coming to grips with just how much of a selfish decision he made, but to subsequently react in that fashion, as a team captain, was almost as bad.

That's why I personally like the indefinite suspension. There's no guarantee that a 1, 2, 3 game ban would suffice. Principally, the kid needs to be a leader for this Duke team, definitely didn't act like it, and, quite frankly, shouldn't come back until he's proven both his coaches and his teammates that he can truly shoulder that load.

There was only one or two replays inside the arena, and K was talking to refs during them. He was at a bad angle to see it live too. But you go ahead and think whatever you want, since trip gate means so much to you.

You're wasting your time. Their minds are made up before the incident occurred. So many unctuous posters all of a sudden! Off with his head!

It shows such an obvious lack of understanding of the mechanics of an actual basketball game. Seriously, you can learn a lot about a person who sits on their couch, watching seventy replays and listening to a half dozen talking heads, in the three minutes after the incident, who then believe that EVERYONE experienced what they just experienced. It is almost child-like in its ego.

Sobe; as DD posted above, the replay was only played a handful of times in the arena. At no point is Coach K standing there, leaning back and craning his head, to see what, exactly, happened. At that moment, I would wager he was more interested in what the foul was, what the results were, what players would be on the floor, and what the score was, and was likely either talking with the refs or coaching his team. Likewise, K isn't taking his 15 or so minutes in the locker room at the half to sit somewhere quiet, fire up YouTube or however you would find the tape of the incident that soon after it happened, and hitting fast forward and rewind a bunch to see what exactly happened with a technical foul where the kid wasn't even kicked out and there was no review or anything, to see if, in an unprecedented move, the COACH should mete out a punishment that the REFS THEMSELVES didn't see as necessary. No; he was COACHING HIS BASKETBALL TEAM.

Then, afterwards, he suspended Grayson, which is the EXACT THING EVERYONE ON EARTH felt should happen, after he said he had a chance to look at the tape of the incident.

God, some of you UK guys are just so bitter, it totally destroys your ability to be sensible or reasonable.
