Just got my Stanly News and Press and read a great article about Buddy Rich's ride on the B-17 made possible by many people on this site. Hat's off to Tasker Fleming for coming up with this once in a life time event for Buddy. Also a special thanks to Charles Curico of the SNAP for publishing a great story.

Just a little more on my flight and the B-17 itself. First I want to thank all the good people on this site that helped make this possible. Also a special thanks to Tasker Fleming who got the whole thing rolling.
There are 10 B-17's flying today but this plane "The Alumium Overcast" is the only one that gives rides. Being the only single ticket holder I got to sit right behind the pilot. wow. When we were ready for takeoff he reved those 4 big radial engines to max power with his foot on the brake. The sound was Awesome. Then he released the brakes and we were off.
Also today if you are a skydiver they have a B-17 where you can jump out of the bomb bay doors. Not for me..lol
Just read where they also have a flyable B-29. Plane that dropped the atomic bomb.
All in all a great experience that I will never forget..........

I went to the Knoxville Air Show earlier this year and even though I saw the Blue Angels for the 2nd time, I'll still remember the sound of the B-25 that was there. Guttural roaring is the only words I can think of to describe it.

Buddy,

For over ten years I have frequented this site every fall to enjoy the flavorful and intriguing conversations around the football programs in the area. I have always enjoyed all the posters on here, but, yourself and Bluebones were always my favorite. To this day I still read all of the Albemarle threads just to see what interesting input you may have. Keep up the good fight Buddy!

Imagine 4 of those big boys roaring Swain97. Or better yet a carrier deck full of B-25's warming up getting ready to take off on "Doolittle's Raid" to Tokyo.......
