This is comical. I guess the Illinois guys know Robb Smith was fired, but his named was raised for the open Illinois DC position.
Justin Wilcox (former Cal HC) name raised.
Geoff Collins (former Temple and Ga Tech Head Coach)

This is troubling.

Theories:

1. Greg is waiting for someone on one of the 2 Superbowl teams (seems unlikely, but who knows)
2. No one wants to work for Greg ( this is in the forefront of my mind. There have long been rumors of him not being a great person to work for)
3. Greg decided, back when he fired everyone, that he was going to take the job himself. (Being the DC might make sense here but doesn't explain why no assistants have been hired. He can't do it all, but it leads back to #2)

4). He is AWFUL at his job and will not be here much longer!

There’s no way 3) can be true. Greg and the department would not have allowed this to play out the way it has if this was true. They would have gotten ahead of this and announced the decision immediately. This all comes back to not having a plan and likely 2) is the most logical reason.

They were all theories, but I believe all roads lead to theory number two

I think the TKR guys nailed it. Greg doesn’t want someone who is going to come in here and insert their system. He can’t handle that. So he’s specifically in the market for someone with a reputable resume who either:

A) is known for defensive schemes that are similar to Greg’s preferences already.
or
B) is willing to run Greg’s preferred style on D

The ship has sailed on A already. B means either someone who doesn’t have any play calling experience yet, or someone who is willing to toss aside their resume and schemes to robotically do what Greg says. Finding a reasonable brand name version of B isn’t easy for obvious reasons.
