those programs might have openings and he could win it all there and they would go nuts. At Miami, Im not sure anyone would blink if he won a NC.

yeah, but that was Okie state and he was going nowhere with Nebraska and OU in that conference who at the time were completely dominant ... besides, who would want to live in Oklahoma

that takes advantage of the athletes in the area. I like Manny as HC and Hud running the spread option.

Gotta love his progress with the defense over the last season, but I dont know that he is qualified to be a head coach yet. I would think Hudspeth would be the better candidate to offer.

passing defense was terrible, rushing def was better but only by 20 yards a game...

manny could be a candidate, but i hope we are done just handing people jobs at this university

He would go to Miami with Mullen to be DC. Not that I disagree with you about Hudspeth being a good candidate, but I could envision Hud staying on as OC with Diaz at HC.

He's a joke... He's prolly just trying to see how riled up he can get us.

But this is true, in general. Just like any other radio personality, he likes to stir the pot. As much as he comes across as a d-bag on the air, he knows his audience. State fans are a pretty sensitive bunch, and he prods us to get more people to listen.

They seem to work well together and it would make sense- but you never know in the coaching business....

That brings up a possible Hud-Wilson as DC scenario also...

I worry more about losing Balis than anyone...I think we will come out of this ok no matter what happens if he leaves...but losing Balis could really hurt- the guy is a difference-maker

He wouldn't stay here to be Manny's OC. He will be head coach here after Mullen or he won't be here.

You've got such a good start on redecorating the place. And mighty nice of you to let Vandy have the upper bunk. They get so little lately.

I was simply stating that if Mullen leaves, Manny wouldn't automatically follow him to be a DC if there was something better, like a head coaching position. It was just a response to the guy saying if Mullen leaves, Manny leaves.

Our scoring defense (the most important stat) improved by close to 6 ppg. Not to mention that this was done against a tougher schedule.

Gee, if the defense was worse this year, why don't we go get Torchbush back from Kansas?

The Jimmy Johnson example to Miami is almost exactly the same as Mullen's current situation. Using it as a reason that JJ went and Mullen wouldn't go is retarded.

Hudspeth has won big (read: Championships) everywhere he has been head coach. Our offense wouldn't miss a beat with Hud.

Maybe Balis likes Hud and would stay for him and a pay raise. Maybe we have an assistant strength coach that has learned from Balis the past2 years.

I don't know if Chris Wilson could replace Diaz, but he's certainly a good DL coach and they've learned a lot from each other this year.

'bout to fly.

Can find no other source that even 'implies' that Mullen or the AD have been contacted by Miami ... period.

Not saying that they may not end up talking to him but think they are looking for someone with more than a two year track record.

Bounds has never been 'user friendly.'

where our WR have struggled these past two years is a good idea? I like Hudspeth and I agree our talent level at WR isn't all that great - but on paper - Diaz is more qualified.

He is also the passing game coordinator... I believe the improvement of our passing game has been more vital to our success than our D.<div>
</div><div>Also, Hud has the connections in MS high schools and JUCO's to continue to have success with in state recruiting.</div><div>

If I recall correctly, there were rantings for him as head coach after we fired Croom.

They lead the SEC in interceptions.. It's called attacking the opponents weakness rather playing into their strengths.<div><div>
</div><div>We had to pass to be competitive against Arkansas and Ole Miss forced us to pass to beat them.</div></div><div>
</div><div>Exhibit # 2</div><div>
</div><div>Arkansas game-- 3 crucial plays 4th & 1, 3rd &1, 2nd OT TD... we all screens to beat a blitz that Petrino knew was coming.</div><div>
</div><div>How is Diaz more qualified than Hud or even Hevesy for that matter?</div>

We just played 2 piss poor secondaries in a row. Mullen knew that going into those games and he exploited it.

We threw for 129 yds vs AU, 116 vs LSU, 148 vs UGA, 129 vs Hou, 33 vs FL, 107 vs UAB, 111 vs UK, 150 vs Bama & playing from behind.

I would like to see how Diaz is more qualified than Hud on paper. On paper, to me, its a no brainer.

OK ... I can see your point ... now let me replace with this : why leave a program that is on the risein the SEC and head off to the inferior "BIG EAST"

MSU is building around Dan Mullen. We're basically giving him anything he wants. Our fans have showed him excellent support, we're about to expand, he's about to get a raise, he's getting good recruiting, his family loves Starkville, he has a strong say in the Athletic Dept, and our AD has his back no matter what! What could Miami do for their coach? Their stadium is 30 or 40min away from campus! If they started on a stadium now it would probably take at least 3years to build I'm guessing. I doubt Mullen would take that. He's about to be making over 2mil a year and if our Athletic Dept is really smart he will make slightly more than Nutt.

agreed. he's not leaving for the U.....the only 2 schools I think he'd leave for is 1. Penn State (and joepa favors someone else) and 2. Florida....

other than that, i dont see him leaving for at least a few more years...
