To this day we call him the Final Four whiffer.

Pretty much. Attitude went from "hey, beat Purdue and hope we don't get murdered too bad by a great UK team, lol" to "UK is beatable, HEART OVER HYPE, UConn did it last year, etc." with a real quickness. I guess when you eke out an OT win over a team that shoots SWEET JESUS 4-26 from the 3 pt. line, it's "turn the corner" time.

I guess what I'm saying on behalf of the NKY GYEROERS is- you come at the king, you best not miss.

Re: GYER34-0

* Favored by 17 tomorrow. The game will be ugly, slow, and never in doubt. 66-48.

* Glad we played poorly. Don't need to waste an A game on a damn 16 seed. Anybody who was mad about last night needs to learn 6 game tournaments.

* I wish Cal would lose weight.

Overnight ratings for the Opening Thursday of the NCAAT were the highest in history yesterday. #TheKentuckyEffect

Just more proof college basketball is dying.

You think UL & Pitino try to muck it up with grabbing, hacking, hip thrusting, clawing.. Wait until tomorrow.

Cronin & Cincy believe basketball should be played like a knife fight.

Oh yeah,

Troll Pub's Beer Cheese Queso + Pretzel Bread is unreal, like maybe the best I've ever had. Highly recommend if you need a snack Saturday.

-So what time are we getting started Saturday...wonder when those places understand they need to be open early.

They always have. From Tony Yates to Bob Huggins and now Cronin, they're never a pleasing team to watch. Sure, every now and then they'll luck into a good offensive player like a Nick Van Exel, Steve Gentry, Kenyon Martin, etc. but for the most part it's a proud tradition of school yard rock fights.

Get about 2 words out of 5 that make sense from Calhoun.

Just sharp New England mumbling. Nails on the chalkboard. Uggggh..

After dropping BBdK off Sunday morning, I, OF COURSE, took Watterson west instead of east because I F that up everytime, and my phone only had 16% left so I didn't use my GPS. Thus, I went completely out of my way and ended up rolling through downtown. Yum! looks
facing the river. Just a marvel. Impressive.

WITH THAT SAID...

I've always been a big fan of Louisville the city (despite my posts otherwise), but man, the Indiana side and the actual bridges and river are just ugly and depressing. Cincinnati's riverfront may be- and I'm not exaggerating here- a 100 million times more aesthetically pleasing.

Seton Hall needs to make a run at Dan Hurley when the other shoe drops on Willard's tenure. Alma mater, local roots, etc. Guy might very well be a lifer there if he can have reasonable success. That family, like PTI said, is just cut from different cloth.

Will be interesting to watch Bobby's trajectory. He's recruiting at a really high level for a perennial MAC doormat. If he can have 1-2 more good years there, or parlay that into a solid A-10 level job(like Danny's doing currently at Rhode Island), he could have his pick of jobs in the Eastern time zone in 5-6 years.

I know it's widely assumed that Duke will make a run at Stevens whenever K hangs it up, since there are no obvious successors from that tree, but if they're wanting to keep it in the family, Bobby seems as solid an eventual pick as anyone at this point, assuming he keeps winning.

Calhoun considered Calipari an outsider with no background to talk about basketball in New England. He mocked Calipari, calling him Johnny Clam Chowder - pronounced with an "er" at the end, not an "ah" - and not behind his back.

He's a bastard, and I certainly don't "like" him but I respect Calhoun for who he is. He's an ornery old school competitor, not dissimilar from the guy who made our own program.

Well, of course the usual suspects are pointing to last night's ratings as proof that college basketball is 100% awesome and nothing needs to be fixed.

Cal *really* got under Calhoun's skin as a youngest brash 30 something coaching Mass.

Calhoun was kind of king of college ball in New England & here came Cal totally provoking Calhoun and poking the bear.

Yeah...he's an ******* without question, but he's fun to hate. Characters like him make the sport great.

A curmudgeon like Calhoun >>>>>>>>>>>> A santimonious blowhard like Boeheim

Plus, he'll always get points with me for "not a dime back". One of the best press conference lines of all time.

Wichita's strength is their guards, obviously...and IU's are equally as good imo.

Should be one of the more entertaining games of the day.

I have WSU in my bracket, but teasing IU +13.5, KU -2, UofL -1.

Whenever a Jim Nantz/Masters promo comes on, my Pavlovian response is to get hyped for NCAA tournament action. Marcus take its place next to One Shining Moment.
So, if you could have one upset happen today, which would you choose? Give me Robert Morris over Duke.

Last day in Jamaica today, had a couples massage yesterday. Despite the full back and front massage and an accidental (I think) scrotal grazing, I'm happy to report that no boners were popped.

UK fans are everywhere. Ran into a couple here with UK gear, girl lived like 2 streets over from me growing up and one of my wife's good friends was just in their wedding. Good people, anyone who is willing to drop a couple "cocksuckers" during the game is ok in my book.

Wisconsin fan tried to talk trash. Since they don't have any basketball success to stand on, she tried to turn it to football and asked "well when's the last time kentucky won the super bowl?" My drunken boisterous laughing was the end of that conversation.

please please please have direct TV on the plane tomorrow. Had it on the way here and the entire game will occur while we are in the air. I know we are a little silly for planning vacation this week but it was the only week we could get off together. Technology, tho. Sitting on the beach with full wifi about to start streaming some basketball.

The lower section of Yum and the suites look dope, the upper levels look a bit like the mountains in Switzerland. Mad props to the food selection too, those kettle chip pork nachos were awesome.

Troll pub was fun, great crew. They could use some fans down there, little balmy. Pretzel and cheese were unreal.

Bout to start my Dream date with Anth, tour of Louisville bars and restaurants. Hit us up.

Would like to cheer for SEC and Georgia, but go Sparty.

Haven't seen it mentioned much, but it gave me a snake oil grin when I read it. Cincinnati players had mentioned that they just need to be physical tomorrow. Andrew was asked about it and said "if that's what they want to do, good luck".

/smirk

Cincinnati honestly has no clue what they are in for.

Yep. I understand wanting someone to prove himself, but sometimes a guy just has "it" sort of like Harbaugh. Hurley has a great pedigree and may have been the smartest basketball player I've ever seen on the floor. PLUS, he has built in recruiting connections to one of the Top 3-5 talent goldmines in the country.
What makes it even more interesting is that Hurley didn't even go right into coaching. After he fell out of the NBA in
98, he basically dicked around the horse industry for like 12 years before becoming an asst coach in 2010. Guess he was like, ok, I'm bored, let's go crush this coaching thing.

The question is when K retires, does Duke immediately hire Hurley, or let one of K's assistants run the program into the ground first. Hoping for the latter, but it seems like a lock that Hurley will coach at Duke at some point.

On one hand, Art Long punched that horse 20 years ago, so the "UC's in town, hide your horses lol" jokes are a little played out.

OTOH, a UC player punched a horse and that ish is eternal.

Hurley went to Duke, but I don't get the sense that he's a "K guy" like the other players (Collins, Wojo, Dawkins) who have been at his knee since their playing careers ended. I'll guarantee that K wants one of his assistants/former assistants replacing him.

That's kind of my point. Dan Hurley has *clearly* proven he's a very good coach at 2 different schools, and has all of the extras that come along with his name (his dad/recruiting ties/intangibles/etc), and yet we're hoping that freaking Seton Hall gives him a shout? Weird.

Meanwhile, the coach he'd be replacing got there after 3 ordinary/poor years at Iona.

Everything about he and Bobby screams they are likely worthy of being a little over promoted/moved up quicker than normal, and yet they aren't.

I think there's a REALLY good chance Coach K hand picks one of his lap dogs....

....and it ends up being a terrible hire.
