Thanks football wizard. I would rather not hear football opinions from a guy who has never played a snap himself.

Go Patrick Towles though! Cant' wait till we are 5 games into 2016 and Ice Man is sitting at 5 tds and 7 picks!

You read about like you post. ******. I said 100% of the problem is not on PT. You know the part about the line and wr drops ?? I will help you numb nuts, that is putting some blame on the wr's, line, and SOME blame on PT. I sure hope a touch you didn't start for your team, they would have to be a Joker Phillips level of ****** for you to play.

I am done smacking you around, if you get smacked around by me, I agree with Anth, time to take a seat where I am sure you are very familiar with, the gd bench,,,, if you ever even played. Go back to the L1C4 board CrankDatPud, you fit in better there with your ****** takes.

I don't want to tell GYERO how to do its job, but I don't understand why we're talking about this this morning and not Skal LAYbissiere going 9-12 while firing up 8-10 foot jumpers and scoring 22 points over a 12 minute stretch. That should be the topic of conversation. I recognize that there's a football game today, but that was some serious **** last night. I don't care if it was Kentucky State, that was still some serious ****.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Riley has Oklahoma a top 10 offense averaging over 200 yards rushing per game and 320 yard passing a game with a former Texas Tech Walk-on under center.

Can't believe this take went untouched in GYERO. Weak.

You mean an offense that has 4-star and 5-star talent all over the field, while having the pleasure of facing Big 12 defenses, is putting up huge numbers? :scream:

The total ignore feature is great but it does complicate things sometimes. Had no idea I was in the middle of a d-league slapfest.

What did you college basketballs think about the press? I'm torn.

I know you can only judge so much on exhibitions, but it did look good, the 2-2-1 more so than the 1-2-1-1. Enjoyed Willis at the head, enjoyed Ulis and Briscoe trapping, enjoyed Poythress/Lee/Skal hanging back to protect the rim. And if they can get turnovers, these dudes are LETHAL in transition with their ability to pass and convert layups (!!!)

With that in mind, I only want to see it in spurts this season. At some point, there became a ceiling on how well you can play doing extended presses. I know this because Kentucky dominated Arkansas and West Virginia's press as badly as a press can be beaten, and similarly skilled teams did the same, like UNC did to Arkansas and Kansas did to WVU.

Now conversely, I pity the dumb coach who tries to press Kentucky to take up more time on the shot clock, just like I pity the dumb coach tries the dreaded sagging 2-3 zone. These defenses will be bad news in 15-16.

* Football brings out the worst in everybody, myself included. Bunch of big ol' goofs, imo.

I love the press. Long and rangy team. It may not be for every game but like coolcat said, reminds me of my childhood.

Saw Dino and Hollenberg walking away from downtown toward campus last night, hoping they got something done.

Towles generally has about half a second before the offensive line gets completely blown up and the pocket collapses. Bringing in Barker isn't going to fix that.

How much we press is going to depend largely on how much this defense can improve. The defense is porous right now and better teams will score a lot of points against us. It's easy to press the Kentucky States and Ottawas and look good doing it. Not as easy to do against a top ten team. If this team can (and they should be able to) improve in the half court, fall back and play some nasty man to man defense, Cal will feel more comfortable pressing situationally. If we wind up pressing for the majority of major games though it could indicate Cal isn't comfortable with the half court defense.

That said, there's no reason this shouldn't be a top 5 defense nationally. Briscoe isn't there yet but he has the mindset, tools, and will. Ulis is criminally underrated as a defender, Skal and Lee will be very good in time. Matthews is going to be a defensive stud. Poythress goes without saying. All the pieces are there for this team to be just as good defensively as offensively... it's just going to take until probably January or February to see it. It will be interesting to see how much we press as the year goes on. I'm betting it fades to a more situational thing. Spring it on teams randomly, or use it down the stretch to either wear teams down or to try to comeback if we're behind or we need to stop a run.

Yep. Jordan Swindle and (to a lesser extent) Kyle Meadows have had rough years at the tackle spots. Meadows is only a sophomore and should get better, but Swindle is a senior. Hoping they can move Asafo-Adjei over to LT next year, and he'll be an upgrade.

I like us in the 2-2-1 better also because it flatters Ulis' defensive strength, his ball pressure. In a 1-2-2, you're asking him to cover more space and that's tough on a smaller guard.

It will never, EVER happen, but a little half court extended 1-2-2 (sometimes called MAD DOG!!!) with Pee/Willis on the top would be scary!

Any chance we could call for the back up OC? Taking away the threat of a QB run truly makes our shotgun draws one dimensional and very easy to stop. So defenses can contain us easily when we have only 2-3 different offensive sets and the run game consists of shotgun draws.

Besides that the WRs drop easy "should have been caught" passes often enough to cause our rhythm to be off and listening to our coaches week after week the believe rhythm is the key to our offense. So clearly that Towles fault!

Add to all that the most sure handed receiver we got is a damn TE that only gets maybe 10-15 reps a game and maybe 3-5 targets and well, yea lets just go the easy route and blame the QB because anything else causes us to think a little bit.

Cal said in his post game remarks last night that he wants to use the press primarily to speed teams up. I think we'll see it throughout the season to dictate tempo. No one expects 40 minutes of hell, but with our personnel I don't think it is ever going to completely go away.

We are gonna score a ton off kick outs from the post. If you don't double Skal, he's going to eat you alive. If he kicks it to Ulis, Murray, Poythress or Willis it's 3.

I don't think Briscoe is going to be a one and done guy. He looks raw. I think he'll get overshadowed by Ulis and Murray to the point that he will come back for a SO year. That said, Ulis won't be back for a JR year.

Willis was the most surprising guy for me last night. That long outlet pass was a thing of beauty. He is going to play this year.

Mulder. Humphries. Hawkins. Welcome to mop up duty. I don't think Cal has any interest in going 9-10 deep and Willis has put himself ahead of those guys.

A rotation that features Poythress, Lee, Willis, and Ulis has to be the most experienced team of the Calipari Era. Mays and Harrow don't count in my definition of experience because they hadn't played here before.

National Champions. SEC Regular Season Champions. 37-3.

We'll lose the football game. 34-13.

If UGA scores 34 changes need to be discussed. TS.

Willis playing D and hitting boards was the most impressive part of his night, imo.

Agree on Briscoe.

Happy to be wrong about the first drive. Was that the first punt return we've had this year?

The pathetic punting of Landon Foster this year has put us in some holes. The penalty wasn't his fault but a good punt forces a fair catch.

First player to put a hand on him was his teammate coming over to celebrate the TD. Is that bad?

Is Towles not capable of going under center and running a power offense? That's about the only way we can stop a rush is with about 6-7 across the line.
