Stoops will fall on the sword this morning. Accept full responsibility (again) as an effort to "heal" the team. Will probably say the QB job is open this week. Tout Boom's return. Mention that he told the fans from day 1 their job is to fill the stadium, and that the team needs them to do their part for the final 2 home games.

I applaud him going on the show, but not expecting anything too earth-moving. Coaching and schemes be damned, the bottom line is he needs to get the kids playing hard again. If he can do that we'll win this Saturday by 10. If they continue to flat line, Vandy by 10.

He should wait and do that next Monday, the week of the next home game. Would be even more effective if he is coming off a Vandy win and tells the fans to come out and celebrate bowl eligibility with the team for Charlotte. The attendance, win or lose at Vandy, is going to be bad. He might be able to talk a few more asses into seats next week.

Plus 1 for Barker. Also, put Charles Walker out there until our 3 and 4 star WRs are cured of the dickfingers.

If you put Barker out there (and I think we should at this point) then set him up to succeed. Tell him point blank barring an injury he will take every snap. I don't want the kid out there thinking that the first mistake is going to have his *** on the bench. He should also take every first team snap in practice this week.

Dickfingers is the least of my concerns with the wideouts. Those clowns were getting jammed at the line and bumped off their routes all day Saturday (to be fair to Towles).

That's all effort.

If you think we can beat Vandy and Charlotte with him (Barker), then it's a great time to make the move.

That is the key. We need to go to a bowl this year. We HAVE to, to keep current recruits and to have recruiting success in the future.

If Barker was close to Towles at all I think he would've been the starter all along. He was brought in by Stoops, Towles wasn't. Plus has more eligibility remaining.

Towles couldn't have been worse this week. I certainly don't think he deserves to remain the starter. But if Barker is worse and we lose close games to either Vandy or UL… :bomb::boom:

Ideally Barker comes in and lights it up while the OL remembers how to block, the WRs don't drop the ball, the defense learns how to tackle and special teams learns how to do anything right. Anything at all.

But don't make decisions based on what the fans are saying. Touch the fans' goodwill. Our fans are idiots. Just win football games.

Start Barker and utilize the roots of the Air Raid-- short, quick, high volume passing game. It is time to develop for the future.
I'm convinced that Stoops has no interest in either high volume passing or running a lot of plays. Which begs the question of why he keeps bringing in Air Raid guys as his OC, but whatever.

Just getting rid of the damn ball quickly would solve a lot of our offensive problems, IMO. Deep passing is fine, but it can't be the emphasis of your passing game, especially when your o-line is shaky.

See SAE's post on WR's. Those type of passes require help from the receivers.

Stoops, like most defensive coaches in the history of football, wants a run first ball control offense. Unfortunately he plays in the SEC and at a school with the worst home state demographics in the conference. We get the skill players but rarely the big boys in the trenches.

UK will never win consistently unless we throw 35-50 times a game. Short passes. Ball control. Mumme did this with a lot of success and it works. Mumme didn't focus on defense though. It could be a great combination but Stoops is too conservative.

I suspect Stoops knows the limitations of his defense and is handcuffing Dawson's desire to play uptempo and run a true Air Raid.

He is afraid of his defense being out there too much and getting exposed. I don't blame him. I can't believe how bad our defense has been the last 3 games. It's way more than missing Melvin Lewis, too, the whole team can't tackle.

If he's afraid of keeping the D out there, whatever the O philosophy is(I have no idea), needs to be flipped 180.

The D was on the field the entire first half of UT.

Yep. In the LA-Lafayette game we had a **** ton of 2-4 minute drives. They crushed us in time of possession. That was a recipe for disaster in the SEC.

I suspect we'll see more effort from the WRs if Barker starts. Which is unfortunate, but somewhat understandable.

Yeah, maybe they'll play harder for the guy they let get knocked the touch out in Richmond. Perhaps these kids are really good guys and they feel bad and will want to make it up to him.

* I hear "bend but don't break" used to describe our defense. That's not it at all. BBDB defense is a read-and-react, zone coverage, prevent the big play philosophy. We bring pressure from LBs or DBs on nearly every play from any down or distance, and play primarily man coverage. In other words, the exact opposite of BBDB. The reason we look like a BBDB defense is because we can't get off the field on 3rd down. We get teams behind the chains b/c our pressure sometimes works, but we don't have the talent/grit/whatever to finish the drive and get off the field. We're not bend but don't break--we're a bad defense.

* True Air-Raid is ball control through the air rather than the ground, designed to even the playing field for teams that can't run. I think Stoops wants to play ball control on offense, but our QB is incapable of making the short, accurate throws Air Raid requires, we don't have the OL to sustain drives on the ground, and our OC likes to throw vertically, but the OL can't protect. We also don't have a quick, sure-handed possession receiver to put in the slot. We've got square pegs in round holes all over the field on offense.

* At a total loss as to how a team that executed so well on both sides of the ball in both the USC and Mizzou games can look so poorly coached and effortless in the last three games. Serious locker room issues?

If you can't control the ball with short passes, then that's on the QB. All you need is a quick read and release. That's it. Completion percentages should be 65%+. The ball will rarely travel more than 5-10 yards up field. Easier on the O Line. Easier on the WRs to get open. Easier on the QB, as it pretty much eliminates long throws, except into single coverage. If Towles can't do this, then move to the next guy.

I'd rather score too fast than not score at all.

Touchdowns >> 3 and outs every possession.

It was pretty awful that the whole team stood by and let that happen.

Listen, I'm no college football, but I'm pretty sure that after 9 games of limited targets; balls getting thrown behind you, at your feet, over your head, etc.; and getting laid out over the middle once per game, your enthusiasm for your QB and your giveashit are going to waiver. Baker is probably the only guy with no excuses, but he's only one guy. It's wonderful to dream of a world where everyone gives it the old college try on every snap and everyone loves each other and GO CAYUTS WERE IN THIS TOGETHER, but it's not realistic.

Monday Shorts:

- So...what are we looking at most likely? ClemPson, Ohio State, Bama and Stanford/ND? That would be one helluva Final 4, especially if the Irish beat Stanford.

- With that said, Ohio State hasn't looked great all year and has to beat Michigan State (in the Horseshoe) and Michigan (in the Big House) still.

- How overrated is Sumlin? And how underrated is Gundy?

- I'm all for the end of racism and all and taking a stab at The Man, but what in the hell do these Mizzou students want? The President is at fault for anecdotal dropping of N-bombs on campus and a poop swastika?

- According to CBS, UK with the #1 backcourt and #2 frontcourt.

- Anyone started to sell the WAGs on a New Years Eve of football yet? I'm keeping it in my backpocket after the whole 5-day Christmas in Virginia thing. Sealed her fate. She doesn't know it yet but WE are going to be watching those ballgames somehow someway on the 31st. Looking forward to popping her with it.

- I have never gotten the attraction to Gwen Stefani. Seems like a cool babe and I can get behind some of her No Doubt stuff, but she's never done it for me. Overall, just not too impressed with Blake Shelton's taste.

- UK BB starts on Friday!!!!!1! [banana]:pray::fire::basketball::100points:

The worst feeling as a WR is to bust your *** to get open, and then have the ball thrown at your feet, behind you, over your head, etc. It gets old, especially if you take a lick or 2 or 3 in the process, though this is less of an issue in today's game than it used to be.

neither one of these teams will break 20 on Saturday. uglyball 13-10 or 16-12 kinda game. you can't open the door about open QB position without making the switch, impossible, like guys who decommit never go back with their original commit.

There is no accountability with anyone on this team is now my biggest frustration with Stoops. he sets his starting 22 and they are allowed to dog it and screw up without any fear of being yanked. Timmons dickfingers the easy punt return THAT WOULD NOT HAVE COUNTED FOR ANYTHING ANYWAY BECAUSE WE WERE CLEARLY OFFSIDES AND FLAGGED FOR IT, and is right back out there without hesitation all the other punts. Flannigan chases the wrong guy on the read option giving the georgia RB chance the double dribble the damn ball on the way to the end zone, still out there. Towles, nuff said.

Why should they show any pride or honor about being whipped 1 on 1 every play 3 straight weeks when the coach hasn't the guts to call them out & bench their asses? just cruise along brah, collect 2 more easy wins, get a bowl, get the #BBN farred up, lifes good.

Honestly, the kicking game sucking *** has been one of the most disappointing parts of the season...we could at least count on that before.

I think it'll be worse. Like 6-3, 7-3, 10-7 in OT. Looking at comparable competition and results that's what we're looking at.

Umm they've pulled starters all over the field including Boom, Stamps, Quinn, McWilson, Harmon, Timmons(on Off), Flannigan is one of our best defenders who would you like to sub in for him? They've really pulled or buried nearly all the old guys. I feel they honestly thought, like I did before last game, that many of the issues for Towles weren't his fault or at least mostly not his fault and he gave us a better opportunity than Barker.

Yeah, not a good interview, think Towles is starting.

edit: Well Stoops got mad at Matt and it at least got more entertaining.
