I would like to see the stats on how many pass completions we had for between 5 and 10 yards on first and second down this season.

I'm setting the over/under at NONE.

It's like Dawson decided at the beginning of the year "Hey y'all, I'm just going to run it up the gut or chuck it deep. Screw this 'coordinating' crap."

First UK game I remember watching as a kid was in the early 70's when we blew a lead against The Bear and Bama. Used to get redassed during and after games. Now I just watch and realize that it is a turd.

And THAT is why, like I said, we should have gone dirty and hired Petrino.

Screw ethics, I want to win. F$ck UK football. More power to the rest of you that still care.

My decision looks better every day.

Petrino should actually be fired for falling behind 21-0 to this bunch.

Is there ANYTHING remotely positive to look forward to next year in football?

Our ****** defense loses Melvin Lewis, Cory Johnson, Farrington Hugenein, AJ Stamps, and Josh Forrest. They better go dig up some Juco's.

If Petrino is coaching our team, we win.

He coached circles around Stoops and company.

Since in 3 years Stoops has yet to make a single successful halftime adjustment, I was hoping that we had enough in the tank to milk the clock before Petrino could make up the 17 point lead.

..and we were throwing on third and 21 in the third quarter.

Up 21-0 and 24-7 at the half? And lose by 14? Sounds about right.

Just go ahead and fire the guy and start over. That way we can fire the next guy 2 years earlier.

Thanks Maxx for the tickets, I hope your money never makes it in the mail.

Sadly I think Stoops should keep Dawson and get a new OL coach and WR coach then fire Eliot. Not that I think Eliot is to blame but I think Stoops is better at defense and if offenses don't just line up and play 1950's style football Eliot really has looked as if he can't figure it out and get our guys in place.

Oh well it's basketball season.

I think Stoops was banking on this year being HIS leap year, and skipping town after taking advantage of this schedule. This thing gets worse before it gets better, folks.

Any coach who seeks this place out, has a premeditated plan, and lobbies for the job is a damn fool. Immediate red flag, right there.

Captain Suntan's meltdown on twitter right now is mesmerizing. His team wins, but all he can think about is his press box confrontation with Matt Jones. Jones is in that man's head something awful. Enjoy the victory and talk smack/troll. But no. Talk about how you punked out "Matty." He don't want dem hands, bro! Jeesh.

Flipped over to the call in show to get my fill of screaming/ranting/gnashing of teeth... only to hear mostly about media members getting into it over ratings smack talk?

Local media might be the most narcissistic/childish profession this side of a teen pop star.

The ****** thing about Louisville is that now they have Jeff Brohm waiting in the wings to come home and coach for the next twenty years as soon as they've grown tired of Petrino's act. When that happens, we won't get another player out of Jefferson County.

The decision to start a football series with Louisville to prop up a failing Bill Curry will only be second to running Bear Bryant off when it comes time to write the history of Kentucky football mistakes. We basically created a rival on our own level in the only recruiting hotbed in a talent bereft state.

Let's be honest. When the only good thing we have to hang our hat on today after the football game is the Mags/Captain Suntan smackdown, we have a serious problem.

But thanks Matt, is taking the sting away a little.

Zero point zero.

--Went to my first Packers game at Lambeau on Thursday. Despite it being a loss, and it pouring rain with near freezing temps the whole game, it was a better fan experience than all but maybe 2 or 3 UK games I've been to over 20 years. I think I'm just going to roll my UK football fanhood into the Packers now. Normally I'd post my grievances with UK football in a longass post right here to follow, but what's the point? Who cares about UKfootballsucka?

Unfortunately, we are so terrible at football that seemingly reasonable decisions on paper come back to haunt us.

For instance, the question of "Should we play Metro City U in an annual game?" does not seem unreasonable. I mean, why not? We are an SEC school and they played in some commuter college league and presumably could not compete.

Fast forward twenty-five or so years later and they've kicked our *** by any metric that includes the advantages available to both schools. And now they are in the ACC and unquestionably the superior program.

The same thing is true for the decision to help an in-state school like Western or Eastern out by playing them. I mean we should be able to handily beat them and it should be a no-brainer decision. Nope. Multiple coaches at Western beat us and Eastern should have, even after a brawl that should have had our entire staff and team laser focused on the game.

We are so bad that we end up elevating our opponents.

Think about that. It is almost unbelievable.

We, ostensibly, are trying to beat these teams and we have every structural advantage possible to do so but we are so institutionally incompetent at football that we have the Midas touch of making our opponents better.

LEXINGTON, Ky. University of Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops is getting paid – again. After having his contract extended already once in May, Stoops got another contract extension and significant raise on Friday before boarding a plane to Missouri for Saturday's game.

The new deal, which includes a prorated raise for the remainder of this season, adds another year and will pay him a total of $21.45 million through the 2019 season. His guaranteed compensation escalates each season, up to $3.25 million next year and $4.25 million by the final year.

"The success we've had so far this year has been encouraging, but that's not what this is about," athletic director Mitch Barnhart said. "It's about the general direction of the trajectory of our program."

*****

Stoops' new guaranteed compensation

2014 – $2.7 million (after prorated raise)

2015 – $3.25 million

2016 – $3.5 million

2017 – $3.75 million

2018 – $4.0 million

2019 – $4.25 million

Buyout

If Stoops is terminated before Dec. 1, 2017 without cause, he's owed the entirety of his remaining contract.

If terminated between Dec. 1, 2017 and Nov. 30, 2018, he gets 80 percent of his remaining salary.

If terminated any time after Nov. 30, 2019, he'll receive 60 percent of his remaining salary.

[laughing]

Good lord. What an awful, unnecessary, one-sided sham of a deal. The Louisville Arena Authority would have done a better job representing UK's interests than Mitch Barnhart and whoever else was at the table. There was absolutely no reason to make this deal in October, 2014. As the story points out, Stoops contract had already been extended in May of the same year. This was Barnhart being completely insecure and scared shitless that his shiny new football coach might be lured away leaving him holding the bag. You don't give a guy with no history of winning anything that type of buyout structure. That's indefensible.

Just go grab Hal Mumme out of whatever Texas HS he is coaching and have a good ol' return-to-the-90's theme.

We were never that "good", but at least we had an identity then.

Bring back Jimmy B and Cotton Eyed Joe, toss some beach balls in the stands.

"Hey, we don't take this football **** too seriously...just chill, Hal may do something you only do on video games today."

Maybe CM had it right all along...

Meanwhile, UT is being rejuvenated by a coach who was allegedly the leading candidate for this job before Stoops showed up with his blueprint.

UT will challenge for the East next year and be in the top 15 or better all year. We'll be 4-8. Fun days!
