My club is currently hosting the 2023 (Don) Fightmaster Cup, which is essentially the Ryder Cup for adaptive (one armed, etc) golfers. US vs Europe, with adaptive champions from the US Open, Irish Open, etc.

Those dudes are unreal, especially the elite ones.

Local House Rep Alan Gentry is a member at my club & longtime board member/leader within the United States Adaptive Golf Alliance. Lost his arm in a horrific machinery accident a long time ago, and plays to a legit 7 out there and wins all sorts of $, flights, etc. Gotten whipped by him several times.

Was originally scheduled to be held at Covered Bridge. Pretty cool.

Buddies 77 year old car was wrecked in crash, not his fault. Bought himself a new Camaro . Good on him.

Florida's offense looks to be a death by a thousand cuts. Counting on linebackers to cover and tackle. Blitz will be ineffective if they are continually in 3rd and short situations. Mertz with 77% completions. Expect low scoring game.

Tailgate is Bacon Egg and Cheese on Brioche buns, Bloody Mary's and cigars. Ready.

-Low scoring game, 24-17 ish type at most.

-Just went to Lindsey Wilson to talk to some FBall players about weight, diet and workouts. Cool they trust me with that but lord knows they need help down there.

-pushing my move back to Monday or Tuesday, just too much going on unfortunately.

-bout to pop back on social when I leave, I know everyone is on pins and needles.

-so so easy to get out of a workout routine, mine has suffered heavily getting my dad moved and all the extra curriculars around it. Can’t wait to get somewhere and normalize again.

-And yes I’m not dead, thanks for whoever has concern lol.

I have way more cases involving horrific injuries and/or fatalities involving drunk drivers than I do elderly drivers. Neither should be driving, but the catastrophic risk to others of the olds pales in comparison to the drunks on the road.

Hey Pretzel:

1) How does this compare to distracted drivers?
2) Are the worst drunk driving accidents really late in the night (3 AM) as opposed to around like 10 PM?

All of this is anecdata, but in my experience:

1) If by distracted, you mean on the phone, I don't personally have any cases where someone was on a cell phone and wrecked and killed/paralyzed someone. Unless you have phone records OR they admit it, it's really difficult to establish someone was driving and on the phone. Honestly, even with phone records, if they're just browsing a Spotify playlist or inputting a new address in GPS, etc., it's not going to show up and definitively prove they were on the phone. Most of the time the data I get from phone companies isn't helpful* unless I have a proven time of accident and a record of an outgoing text/call or an ongoing call. I can very seldom prove it (and since I'm defense, it's not usually in my client's interests to do so) but I suspect phone use contributes to way more accidents than I could ever prove. People lie. A lot.

"Distraction" is the leading theory in a lot of cases I see, but it can range from glancing down to dunk a chicken nugget in sauce to a kid screaming in the backseat to another uninvolved driver doing something wacky up the road to rubbernecking a hazard on the shoulder. My favorite was a rear-ender in a drive-thru because someone dropped something on their way to the window and reached down to get it and hit the gas a little too much. (No one was seriously hurt, except for the driver's pride, probably.)

2) Honestly, I have no idea. Of the cases I've seen, most occurred between 11 pm and 2 am, but then I have one where dude (NB: not my client) was obliterated at like 3 pm on a Tuesday. While the flashy BACs tend to be more horrific, I've seen plenty where someone blew a .09 or similar and whoever they hit died or was permanently, catastrophically injured (loss of limb, paralysis, TBI, etc).

Highest BAC I've ever seen is .42. That driver was walking and talking on the bodycam footage and had no apparent physical injuries. I have no idea how. That person is doing a lengthy stint with the Commonwealth's Department of Corrections because the other driver died. Maxxx and Legal have probably seen similarly alarming numbers, but it stuns me every time.

* Civil is a different world than criminal. Law enforcement can get WAY more than us civil plebes because there's criminal activity and they're doing the investigation way closer in time to the incident than when the case ends up in civil court. The cell carriers don't keep much for long, at least not for non-prosecutorial purposes. The discovery file I got in a crim defense case years ago had reams of phone data I'd never get in a civil case.

Jordan Love about to show his true abilities tonight. Fully expect the Lions to destroy him in Lambaugh!

- UK as a pick Saturday? I am proud I’ve made it to week 5 but I won’t be able to not take UK on that.

Took the keys away from my father (87 without any signs of demetia, but degredation of reflexes that clearly made him a menace behind the wheel.)

He took it like a man. In fact, he had one of the important talks, years ago, that a man should have with his son; ie. "When the time comes, that you think I shouldn't still drive, DO IT, and don't question yourself. I'll willingly comply."

My father is a complete fvcking boss*, BTW. Original OG/depression baby that: takes care of business, puts his tools away, balances the checkbook to the penny (even if it takes a trip to the bank to figure out a 3 cent discrepancy), paid cash for every car he every purchased, started investing for his retirement out of the the first paycheck he received as an adult, only called in sick 3 times in his career (unless he was in the hospital), paid his mortgage off in 12 years, and the most extravagant thing he ever bought for himself was a 1965 Mustang convertible, that was already 5 years old, and yes, he paid cash. He kept it his entire life, and passed it onto me when he could no long drive.

*(you can imagine his disppointment, in having to endure ME, and my various shenanigans/immaturity. A son that has NEVER balanced a checkbook, and, when a pair of pliers is needed, has to borrow some or go BUY a pair etc.)

Good job Zach! Great utilization of Captains Picks. At least all the popular players got on the team at the expense of trying to win the damn thing.

Effectively over 3 hours into the damn thing.

This NL Wild Card race sure is fun. The Cubs lost once again yesterday, putting them in an incredibly difficult position. Somehow the Marlins keep on winning, and last night went into the 9th inning down 1 run to the Mets. They scored 2 in the top of the inning, and the game was paused for rain with 2 outs. If the game is completely called off, the Mets win because the score at the end of the most recently completed inning stands. But the game is being resumed today due to playoff implications.

Rooting for the Marlins to lose, because obvi. Most importantly, it means the Reds go into this weekend with 3 games at St Louis and actually have a chance at the playoffs. It's slim, and I don't think they'll make it, but the chance is good enough to keep the weekend interesting.

Not today, but it’s going to be resumed on MONDAY. The marlins are going to fly back to New York for at most 4 outs. I mean, I get it obviously, but it’s wild to think about.

Pretty big stones from JT playing solo. Good lord, Spieth was basically in pocket the entire back 9.

Pretty dramatic Fourball session all around. Good ****.

Big Marlins fan here - I have a partial season ticket package. Marlins have tons of injuries but still somehow have managed to come up big in close games time and again. Fun team to watch. Got screwed by the Mets ground crew in that series which had field totally unprepared. But, anyway, I believe (hope) Marlins will clinch this weekend in Pittsburgh and not have to go back to Queens.
