Been in Orlando this week for work, and next door is the PGA equipment convention. Been pretty interesting seeing some of the golf personalities roaming around. Johnny Miller, Butch Harmon and most of the other non-tour pros. The girls out here peddling the products and apparel are pretty. Ive previously thought Holly Sonders had a weird looking face, but sure enough shes really hot too.

Kind of a hack golfers dream world getting to test clubs, get swing feedback, etc.

Just *looks* like an NBA player, I'm thinking he's gone.
learn River City guilt tripping. no way will they allow him to just bounce after 1 year along with losing their other "one & done" ([eyeroll]) Lee & Lewis. after the season it will be time for Drew Deener to dial up the "Rick Will Let Him Play Some Point Guard If He Comes Back!!!" act.

The game last night is a great example of why I love being a fan of this program. Terrible opponent, but a packed enthusiastic crowd for the entire blowout game. And our smart fanbase knowing what actions to give extra cheers and encouragement, Skal playing hard, Briscoe hitting FTs, Willis doing everything.

I mean, as long as he doesn't get abused and give up a ton of offensive boards to his guy, I don't really give a **** about his rebounding right now. If he's not good at it, why in the hell do we want to put an emphasis on it when other guys can do it? We have two guards who are unusually good at rebounding - we're fine there. Long term - yes, he needs to rebound better. But that ain't happening until the guy bulks up and gets more comfortable with physical play. It could be a while before that happens.

An issue *right now* with his rebounding is that he's more likely to have any rebound immediately stripped away by a 6 ft guard, or throw it away trying to make an outlet pass. It's basically not any part of his game at all. If the ball hits him in the hands and he can immediately hand it off to Ulis- awesome. Otherwise I'll assume any of his rebounds will result in a made basket for the opposing team.

Thursday MEATY Randoms:

- :grimace: This team is coming into it's own. I know Arkansas, Vandy and Mizzou aren't great, but it's HOW we're playing. The night LSU pounded us-> anyone would've beaten us. Everybody's playing good ball (save Lee) including Matthews. Everybody has energy. We got that swagger back. And I do, too. It's amazing how happy the Wildcats make me when they're playing good ball. This is the team we all thought we might have. That's what makes college basketball so great. Your team can turn on a dime. It's a long road, but I like my team.

- Skal's stroke is so pure. I've never seen a true 4/5 have a J like that at his age. It's Chitwood-esque. Yeah, he has to board but kid is dunking and swatting now. He's coming along.

- If I hadn't already seen something like before (Harrellson), I'd have a hard time believing a kid like Willis could become this good, this quickly. From his interviews, it just seems like he never really believed in himself until this run. He kinda thought he was just a benchwarmer. I thought last year he could eventually become a good player for us, but it's his rebounding that's most impressive. Much like Harrellson in 2011, the kid transforms this team. He spreads us out on offense. He gives us another rebounder. And he's always had good instincts passing and moving without the ball.

- Briscoe's such an interesting cat. His game is so mature. We knew he couldn't be that bad as a shooter- hell, he won a 3-point contest at one of those AS games. He rebounds, plays sick D, passes well and is adept at finding creases in the D. Plus, besides Ulis, he's pretty much the most levelheaded guy on the team.

- Speaking of Ulis- how good is this kid? He's quick so people miss out on how crafty he is at finding angle on shots, especially inside the paint. And that's pull-up J is wet.

- Murray's rebounding very well and what I like the most is how scrappy he's become, which is surprising considering how he played early in the year. He's not the quickest guy in the world, but he's become much smarter and plays much harder on D.

- Not sure what's going on with Lee. I think his stupid fouls are taking him out of his own game right now.

- RE: Kansas in the Phog. I think we all were seeing a blowout a few weeks back, but they're reeling and these Wildcats are coming in with a strut. I think Ulis and Briscoe are BIG GAME players who are relishing this game. Never know with Murray's shot, but could you seem him going off on Saturday, putting on a show and start getting national buzz? Willis just needs to keep on doing what he's doing. Skal needs to continue to build.

Look- Kansas is a good and desperate team and the Phog is viper pit...BUT we match up well with them. They're not a team that can pound us to death inside. Ellis is good, but he's a finesse player who Poythress can handle. Their 5s are ****. We have better guards and Mason/Graham haven't been able to stop anyone off the bounce lately. We just have to hope they- specifically Selden- doesn't go off from 3. I'm taking the CATS in a barnburner.

- @B.B.d.K. not sure why you're calling me out, I've praised Donovan Mitchell in this very thread. Love his game. Hate his jersey number, tho.

- Been addressed in here before, but that UK commercial with the Nashville hopeful is just about the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Come to UK to become a bartender and open mic nighter in Nashville? Tell your Millennial focus groups to get pumped.

- People dislike Newton for many of the same non-racial reasons they disliked guys like Jim McMahon and Johnny Manziel- he's a showboat, not to mention he was kicked out of one school for stealing stuff and got away with a scandal at Auburn. It has nothing to do with race. People don't like showboats, thieves and those who get away with ****.

that sumbitch is 3 feet short of the rim, incredible. very prescient for the kid to roll his wrist immediately to say "ow, look how hurt I am!!!"

Skal had at least one rebound. I saw it!
I thought he did too. Where he and Briscoe had the ball but I think Briscoe ripped it away from him and got credit.

Briscoe with 6 rebounds and Murray with 9. I love the way our guards hit the glass.

Hey, assistbyredass, I think everyone is just pointing out the fact that Skal didn't **** down his leg and roll around in it at mid court which was the trajectory he was on a month ago. He's actually doing something in the realm of positive production and growing confidence...not dropping any triple doubles any time soon. And I don't care what Cal says in his post game promo, if Skal keeps doing positive stuff Cal will play him.

Agree with Bbdk on Murray, I'm a big body language guy because it's always smart to judge kids I don't know by snapshots of their on court demeanor on TV...anyway, Murray seems more like part of the team now than earlier in the year when it was like we had a team and Cal grabbed him off the blue courts and tossed him out into game action. It seriously seemed like he hadn't even met who he was playing with. But not anymore. By the way, not saying he doesn't care about his numbers but Cal is always preaching the easy play, he hates over passing or making things more difficult than they have to be, that's why you see a lot of our guys not give it up on the break.

Amazing what Willis has done for this team. The court is so spread it is unreal the driving lanes that are available.

And Ullis might as well be playing on TNT right now with that mid range game. Good grief :fire:

No, he wont play him unless its against a team like Mizzou. He played 4 minutes against Vandy on Saturday with Cal saying he wasnt capable of handling Vandy inside. I see a similar result Saturday. The game will be too fast, too intense and physical for Skal to keep up. Its fine, Skal is nothing more than a decent bench player that can build some confidence in 34 point blowouts against teams whose average height is that of Isaiah Briscoe.

This team is coming together nicely in spite of Skal. If he becomes even HALF that player we all thought he was, this is a legit Final 4 contender. This team doesnt need another jump shooter. It needs a rim protector, rebounder and his scoring will definitely help open it up for the guards. But without the defense and rebounding, he offers little to nothing to this team.

Cam showboats like a mug when he wins and won't open his eyes and blames his teammates when he loses. Pretty easy to get behind a guy that is 100% cocky SOB like MJ or Curry. Pretty easy to dislike a front runner who pouts like a baby when he doesn't do well.

That said, idrgaf about Cam or the NFL. Yeah, if pressed I would say I'm not a huge fan, but the only reason I even thought about it was the constant media attention. Otherwise, I'd have no opinion of him or any other NFL player, save Greg Hardy and the like

steph curry is the biggest showboat in sports and everyone loves him. I have no clue why everyone hates cam but I don't think it's because he's black. I like cam, ftr. I hope he hangs 75 on Peyton

-Well, the way Peyton plays defense, you're probably spot-on with that one.

-Chad and Wodie with strong randoms this morning. Everything else is just commentary.

-Finished "All the Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr. Outstanding novel. Over 500 pages but never drags once. Highly recommended.

-ATL for the next week. Staying downtown. Dantanna's might be the play for KU game viewing.

-Can't imagine what Strokin' Bandit and other GYEROs who coach *for real* must go through. I'm coaching a misfit Rec League team of HS'ers and it's a roller coaster. 0-3 to start, the three losses by a combined 18 points. Then a 25-point win this past Sunday over the team that beat us in the opener. Fun to see kids "get it". But managing their egos and style of play....whew.

-Down 30.

ABH doesn't "love" Kentucky, no matter what he says.

He's a fan, kinda. Enjoys taunting other fans more than he does us winning, and that's a fact.

This time is starting to find it's offensive identity and play tough man to man D simultaneously. Realize Mizzou sucks but certain aspects regarding the way we are playing are jumping out.

* Spacing is infinitely better and we seem to know what we want or how we should play with our possessions.

* Energy on D. Going after balls. Murray has totally bought in and is playing hard now on both ends.

Cal never gets enough credit for his mid season adjustments ( 2011 & 2014). Willis at four obviously stretches out the D & opens driving lanes but we also now have a quickness advantage at every position with Poythress at the "five".

Cal also now realizes we can't have Poythress and Lee in at the same time. Need to go with the offense & defense combos of Willis/Poythress & Lee/Skal.

People, myself included, don't fully realize how difficult it is to take a new group almost every year and mold them into how you want them to play, build synergy/rythym on offense and have them buy into how hard you have to play on defense at this level. Sometimes it's best to take a step back, look at the big picture & trust the process.

Saturday will be a monumental task. Hate saying this but I'll be looking at more how we play in that environment.

We have 5 weeks left in the regular season. If we can continue building our rythym on offense and playing the kind of D like Cal's teams usually do.. Who knows. The margin between us and the so called 1 & 2 seeds is nothing. Maybe we catch fire and these other teams continue to drop some. It's a long season with a ton of twists & turns.

- Udoka Azubuike choosing between UNC, Kansas and FSU today. Calipari didn't give the kid a sniff. Big ol' boy but needs some polish.

- Wounded Warriors Project only spending 60% of money on vets. It's amazing how many times these "charities" are just BS.

What's the rim situash at this gym? Breakaway? Single spring loaded? Standard metal/no spring? THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

Is the wall just beyond the baseline padded? Are there baskets on the walls of the sidelines?

I read somewhere that in order to get kids interested in space they wanted to put Big Bird on the Challenger, but the suit wouldn't fit, so they instead sent the teacher. Regardless of whether that is true or false, can you imagine if millions of elementary school kids watched Big Bird explode on TV?
