I live in a pretty nice neighborhood (historic uptown) and figured we’d have a ton of kids. The couple that lives in the main house and been here since childhood said nah we don’t usually get but one or two. So idk, I guess most kids are doing the trunk or treat or church get togethers and whatnot.

Tucker dropped a Cal-bomb piece on the Athletic this morning. Shew

Some high (low?) lights

"We got away from the dribble-drive and he started trying to over-coach. He tried to under-teach and over-coach, and that’s a bad combination.”

“Their offense is archaic,” said another. “It’s gotta be the same sh– he was running with the New Jersey Nets.”

“There’s been times the team wasn’t performing well and he was focused on saying some sh– or putting out something to get back at Matt Jones,” said the fourth former staffer.

-Are we still doing fluoride at the dentist? I haven’t had my teeth cleaned in like a year, never had a cavity, and I made an appt yesterday for a cleaning and they asked if I wanted fluoride for $38 and I said I don’t think so?

Isn’t it already in our water? They and google said it makes the cleaning last 2-3 more months but I have no idea.

Apparently our tap water is already turning men into women and frogs gay. 🤷‍♂️

-Hard to social stalk your gym crush to see if she has a bf when you haven’t caught her name…

-Been asleep before 9ish since Sunday, shew boy feels good doing that. Best part is the dog is all about it too. Beach and dog park and two walks will do that I reckon.

-Throwing out two more rezzies today to see what happens. Have a feeling it’ll be another week or two either way. One is on the beach which is dope and closes at 11 but I’d have to drive and lord I hate driving.

-So there are places you go now that just stretch you out? Like legitimate athletic trainer type stretching you pay for 30-60 minutes and you don’t do anything but get stretched?

That seems a little lazy to me? Idk. I at least go to yoga and stretch but to pay someone to stretch you? I mean, it’s probably gray just seems weird.

Is it hard to go up to a person that interest you and introduce yourself, admit you’ve noticed said person working out where you work out, spark up some “not too many people get after it so early like us” compatible hint and see where it goes from there?

Maybe it’s been too long since I was single but what I do remember is the longer you wait the more awkward it gets.

No I’ve talked to her briefly multiple times and she’s come up to me too. It’s honestly just more weird because it’s 5 or 6a, I’m just going to ask her to go for coffee or a smoothie here soon, eff it.

Onjy tried it once before and ended up dating a 21 yo 10 for a year until she went off to FAU for, you know college.

If she says no I have a bf than who cares? I’m just thinking out loud on here. That’s the advantage of genuinely not giving a eff, I have zero problem talking to a gal because I really don’t care if she says no, shooters gonna shoot and whatnot.

I always thought it was strange when cal would say, “I ended practice after 30 min bc they were sharp (or whatever adjective) and I didn’t want to over work em.”

You can still do a lot of teachable activities without burning guys out.

I think he just got lazy and thought the program could be successful in auto pilot mode. That, and a small step back in recruiting for a couple years, made the program take a big downturn.

- Think all these "Trunk or Treat" events that are held by churches and other civic groups have really put a dent in traditional trick-or-treating in a lot of places. Why take your kids out to random people's houses on a chilly Tuesday night when they can rack up just as much (if not more) candy in a parking lot on a weekend? We left candy out in the driveway (both of us were exhausted from our parents' hospital stays), put a sign that said "Take handfuls", and there was still candy left over at the end of the night. And it was the good stuff, too.

- Wasn't fun reading that Tucker piece, but it pretty much confirmed what we assumed to be true all along. It was just good to see people on the inside confirming it. As long as it lights a fire under Cal, it's all fine by me. Tucker definitely didn't pull any punches.

- Our dog doesn't have accidents, doesn't tear anything up, doesn't bring in any carcasses, but good grief, I wish she'd chill on barking any time a living organism has the audacity to walk past our house. She just stands on guard at the end of the entrance hallway and watches until sundown. Something/someone walks by, she barks for a good 45 seconds. Makes it hard to watch my shows!!!

- I don't have the refined palate of some of you GYEROelite, and that's reinforced by the fact that if a restaurant menu has a decent-sounding Buffalo Chicken Wrap on the menu, that's where I'm headed 75 percent of the time.

I went to a baseball camp once where the college coach said that he only hits a couple of ground balls to his players per day, because you lose focus after that. I looked at the record of his teams and they always sucked. Everybody who is a good defensive player knows you needs lots of reps as you're working on muscle memory. Cal's statement here reminded me of that.

His team's execution of basic sets are sloppy. His inbounds plays are sloppy. He flat out says they don't work on free throws. Improve any one of these things 10% and it's a couple points per game. The analytics say that matters.

Rack every bit of this.

We give away or cost ourselves prob 10 pts a game in half court stall ball, defending BLOB plays, not running BLOB plays, etc.

If Cal isn't shamed by being called out nationally, not some KSR fan fest, then he'll never be shamed.

6-7 o'clock is normal rush of kids. After 7, get ready to pack it in. Last night, every time I thought it was time, I could see kids coming over the hill. Done at 730. It was cold.

I enjoy seeing the new dads, going double fisted as junior sprints to the next house. Been there, done my time. Cigar, fire and a drink while handing the candy out is my job now.

Hey gang, how about we take a “positive vibes only” approach towards UK basketball, the thing that brought us all together. Without UK basketball we would have never seen any posts from UKO!

I don't have a subscription to The Athletic, so I can't read Tucker's article. I heard Tucker on with Leach this morning and he said he asked Cal to refute the criticisms in the article before he published, but he wasn't interested. From the reaction to the article I'm seeing, I'd imagine Cal will be adding Tucker to the Matt Jones **** list.

Well all I can say is it was an employer/talent evaluator’s job to see this and try to make sure it didn’t happen. Instead we gave the guy every reason to sink into his lazy boy with all his meat and be what he became.

Give this team your best, go get Travis Perry, and then make it one more season and collect your forever 1M check as UK ambassador while some young and hungry guy takes over the coaching duties!

A simple metric to illustrate the decline of the program since 2015 is the lack of a single #1 seed since that season.

The tournament began seeding teams in 1978-79 and there have been 45 seasons since then (including the 2020 season*). UK has managed to be a #1 seed 12 times or once every 3.75 seasons.

Before 2015, the longest period UK had gone between #1 seeds was 6 seasons (1986 to 1993) which included a 2 season post-season ban.

UK is currently at 8 seasons since the last #1 seed.

*UK was not going to be a 1 seed in 2020. UK was projected between a 2 or 3 seed.

That article was on-point and just absolutely depressing. The 'under-teach v over-coach' line was just a killer. Damn.

Countless times we've looked unprepared. The guys often play like they've never seen a scouting report. Inbounds plays are always an adventure. How many times do we run a successful play out of a timeout and get exactly what we want? That **** should be baked in during practice and walk-throughs.

With that being said, our small ball (out of necessity) may win over our stubborn tunnel visioned HOF coach over so when at least one of those bigs comes back, we at least have a rim protector and be above average defensively. I like the roster build. It will just come down to (as always) how he decides to employ them and style of play. I say this **** what seems like every other year but I have no choice to be optimistic until Cal proves me otherwise (again).

- Cracked the new Midwinter Night's Dram last night on our Halloween trek through the neighborhood. Delish and perfect flavor profile for a cold night.

- The offensive emergence from the UT game was really encouraging, despite our slide the last couple the weeks. Win 3/4 and let's find a decent bowl somewhere.

- Rowland posted that Afari and Wade played only a combined 23 snaps on defense vs the Vols. That's criminal. Especially considering a dude like Jordan Robinson got smoked on every ball his way. He was clearly not ready for the moment -- yet the staff kept trotting him out there. W.T.F.

- The Ivy League school rot has never been more apparent with all these anti-Semitic protests and comments coming out of the woodwork re: the Israel/Gaza conflict. What an indcotrinated DEI clown show many of those institutions have become.

Josh McDaniels out after a mess of a coaching run, again.

Las Vegas is where Harbaugh is rumored to possibly go, or at least use against Michigan to get the deal or more.

I care because I follow NFL, but I also think this is the one job I’d legit think if they called Stoops he’d go there for even less money than he makes at UK.

Anything to not finish any of the brackets they've started.
Good, the brackets are boring. Idgaf what average Kentuckians favorite fast food or candy is, it’s banal entertainment and time filler.

-I’m pretty sure the anti-Semitic protests are because Israel is killing, oh I don’t know, civilians including 2000 children with no effs given and Israeli spokesperson saying, “The emphasis is on destruction not accuracy.”

If you don’t think that’s effed up, you’re out of your mind. They’re basically saying we’re just trying to kill anyone and everyone over there.

😂 no NFL team is calling Mark touching Stoops any time soon my man. The NFL is uptempo and a passing game now, what about Stoops screams NFL ready?

-the article confirms what anyone with an ounce of critical reasoning skill has known since 16-17... I didn't need confirmation, I have eyes/ears/functioning cerebral cortex.

^our society is not kind to critical thinking of late. Enough of that.

-broke out the solo stove bonfire the 1st time last night (owned for 2 years). It's amazing.

-200ish trick-or-treaters. Not too shabby.

-outdoor tennis scheduled this evening... exhilarating.

-Stoops has been here a long time. Has he peaked? Either way I appreciate the work and if he bails for UM (not sure they'd offer) he left it better than he found it.

Got invited to play pickle ball later this week by some people at the pickle ball court adjacent dog park. Played a few times in KW and it’s fun and good cardio so I may take them up on it.

Also, found a park that has 3 courts running morning and evening, sounds even better but would prefer indoor obviously just more fun being able to dive for balls, hear the squeaks and not worry about weather.
