I feel like I might be in the huge minority, but I don't really give a damn if the stadium is done by the first game. Just get it done right and in a reasonable amount of time. Don't rush a $120,000,000.00 project in order to coddle a few fans a week or two early. It'll be finished when it's finished.

This would be a great time for @80 Proof to chime in on the construction process at CWS. Wish he would have toured the place. It actually is the area that he probably knows several people involved and knows WTF he's talking about.

Not about coddling fans, it's about accountability and pride. You say you're going to do something by a certain date, touching do it.

Pretty simple, really.

Special Shout to my buddy Tony at Bryant HVAC. A/C quit working yesterday, and came home to a nice 82 degree oven (we keep our therm on 67 in summer, 65 to sleep).

Had a guy out there in 30 minutes (after he woke up from his nap), and was comfy by bedtime. Par for the course with those guys!

No overtime!

Project began in 2013 iirc. Also, the contract has some pretty stiff penalties for delayed completion.

I guess the powers that negotiated the deal should have listened to you and been a little more friendly.

I remember when CWS opened. It wasn't finished when they played the first game but it didn't stop fans from attending or the teams from playing.

I'm sure UK and the construction company are just shrugging their shoulders and having a big laugh! Weather! What can you do?!

Timely completion matters, both contractually and for perception. I get that you may not be bothered by it, but I guarantee you the folks involved are furious/embarrassed. And it's pathetic if they're not.

Perhaps.

This may seem outlandish, but I still choose to wait until September 5th when I can make a 1st hand/informed opinion about the situation.

Completely ridiculous. Why would you even consider such a thing?

I agree. And I don't mind that people don't care (and I'll be fine September 5), but to the folks involved with the project I'd imagine it's serious ****.

Exactly what SAE said. They started in early 2013.

Sure the rain has been extreme this summer and the two major snowfalls late in the winter haven't helped matters but I personally don't give a crap. You have to factor some margin of error for weather delay. They didn't start this project in March it's been years in the running.

Other stadium renovations around he country haven't dealt with crappy weather? False.

Just get it done.

If it's a complete ********/terrible/ugly experience on GameDay inside the stadium (for the fan), I'm sure I'll be very annoyed.

I just don't think that's going to be the case. I couldn't care less what's going on within the 'guts' of the stadium at that time.

To me, it's about getting it done right. Work their asses hard, but don't cut corners in order to finish it. I'd rather have a well constructed 100% finished facility, than one that was rushed to completion and in a year or two we start seeing **** fall apart. If there are holes in the drywall, don't just hang a picture over it and cover it. Pretty much my mentality with it.

Going to be interesting to see how WEALTHY UK FAN behaves in the loge/club sections. Butts in seats at kickoff/throughout or posted by the bar slamming collides and liquor most of the game.

[laughing] That's more like it. Don't forget gourmet food while we're stuck with the horror of dogs/popcorn/nuts/'chos for a football game.

SAE's rants about common folk not being responsible enough to enjoy beer are among my current favorites.

IMHO...

Things come together quick at the end of a construction project. The pictures I saw indicated most of the mechanical systems were complete or very near completion. Drywall can be hung and finished in a matter of days, and there was a decent amount of drywall already installed. Most of the finished ceilings will likely be dropped tile, which isn't a long process either. I would say they will be ready for the first game, but there will be some finishing (trims, paint, etc...) that will still be going on well into the season.

As for the exterior, if the curbs are in and grade is set they can have a parking lot done in a couple of days if the right company is doing the paving. I know that getting concrete in Lexington right now is nearly impossible, with the rain delays that have been experienced over the last month and jobs like CWS, New Circle, Alumni (a different project than CWS, but contributing largely to the perceived mess), and the UK facilities all getting priority. We talked to a driver for Harrod Concrete the other day who said shifts are starting as early as 2 am and finishing at 10 pm, giving only 4 hours for daily cleaning and maintenance at the cement plant (shifts are typically 5 am to 5 pm). That is some serious concrete volume.

As long as the weather cooperates, I see no reason CWS won't be ready for our first game. It might not be 100%, but it will be over 90% and all facilities will be operating (bathrooms, boxes, concessions).

The real project started the day after our last home game in November of 2014. Before that work was limited because the stadium was still being used.

Come on, Drew Franklin. Calling George Raveling a "legendary" coach is absurd. He was an average coach. Put down the hype pipe.

Well, he's in the Hall of Fame (for a multitude of reasons obviously, not just coaching). I'd say he's a pretty legendary basketball figure in his overall impact.

It was a very limited 10+/- rows sawed off the top of the stadium and steel frame for new suites/press box in place.

80's obviously the expert, but it's been a long damn project. I trust they're where you say they are.

You're right. I mean, he has been to the NCAA Tournament 6x in his career (even making the second round TWICE!).

As I said, as a basketball figure. I'd say if you're in the Naismith Hall of Fame, and also just won their lifetime achievement award you're pretty legendary in your field (basketball).

Raveling is very connected. I'll give him that. He has always been overrated as a coach.
