Wednesday HOT Takes:fire: (TM):

- My college nostalgia really flares in late August, early Fall. College was the best. Early 20s isn't far behind it. You had more responsibility but also some $$$, 90% of your boys were still single and you had things a little more figured out.

But college- sweet, sweet college. Just the women alone. There's more talent at WT Young on a random Tuesday than any bar I've been to in the last 15 years. Want to randomly go out to Keeneland and get hammered on a Thursday at noon? No problem- you can gather up a crew in a matter of minutes...and this was pre cell-phone. $5 tickets in good seats to watch the basketball team you've loved your entire life. Every weekend involves three nights of partying. Everybody is 18-22. Your parents are so happy to see you every 5-6 weeks that they buy you $100 worth of groceries. I get so jealous of these just-graduated HS seniors. They have no idea how much fun they're about to have starting here in a few weeks.

- So, apparently the US Bank Arean eyesore is getting a major renovation. The location is great and, much like Freedom Hall, there aren't many bad seats in the place, BUT it's old and a relic of the 70s. Not sure if UC will eventually just play their games there or what.

- Is my office the only office that sends people cards on a daily basis? Someone loosely connected to us gets the flu and we have to send a card. I don't see the point in cards to begin with. Unless they're homemade or have $$$ in them, what's the point? Save the $1.99 and just buy me a pack of Peanut M&Ms.

- How good/bad do you think SAE is at selling nonchalance when his wife decides to go out of town for the night? I guarantee he gives it away.

- Cal's a stud recruiter overall, but he is particularly good at either getting in early or closing rapidly on guys who seemingly blow up out of nowhere. Look at this of guys who all of the sudden got BIG and Cal closed on before the other coaches knew what hit them:

Bledsoe
Kanter
Davis
Murray

Jew&Fat mentioned it this morning, but Greg Hardy will play before Tom Brady this season. Hardy's first game will actually be against the Pats in week 5 (Pats week 4 bye week). That's insane. The NFL can't get out of its own way, and the downfall could be coming sooner (~10 years) rather than later.

Listened to Greenberg and Katz's podcast with Cal last night.

Cal was Cal for the first time since before the Final Four loss. Talked Murray, Dribble Drive Motion, and the rule changes in college ball.

-Said he doesn't think the 30 second shot clock will have much impact but then went on this long rant about the freedom of motion change and how some teams with less talent have to foul on every possession (shot at UL). Said if it takes calling 50 fouls then so be it. Enforce the rule and make coaches change the way they teach defense. This will clean up the game.

- Ullis is good enough to be a pro, especially with the small ball movement, and the way he can run a team. " THIS ISNT A PLACE WHERE I FORCE YOU TO BE HERE FOR 4 YEARS FOR ME & THE PROGRAM WILL SET YOU UP WITH JOBS IN THE COMMUNITY. NO, ITS ABOUT HELPING KIDS REACH THEIR DREAM." (another shot at UL).

Said he consulted with Isiah Thomas on how to play Ullis.

- Opened up in a way and said when it's all said and done he's just a kid from Western PA. That's why he takes pictures wieverywhere he goes. He doesn't roll into places with 3 security guards and act like the grand poobah that doesn't want people to get her near him ( another shot at Pitino).

- Poythress will play the 4 and it will help his NBA chances with the small ball movement.

- Skal will be a work in progress at the beginning but by the end of the year could be another #1 pick like Davis and Townes.

- Still tinkering with how we'll play but believes this is a Dribble Drive team.

So I guess they're closing UC at 11 this am before a press conference re: a school officer shooting a guy.

This should end well, right?

-Had my "damn, wish I was going back to UK soon" thoughts this morning on the drive in. Even threw on BNL's "Brian Wilson" just to torture myself. That song, more than any other from that time in my life, just kills me.

Need to hit the Keys 9/5 after the game.

-Lass knows how thrilled I am about Saturday. I mostly portray an unfair picture of her on here. She gets it.

But, I smirked a bit when she told me last night and had to fight back a full blown smile. She just rolled her eyes. I'm to the point where I can basically do everything but Kirk Gibson up the stairs when stuff like this happens.

-Also, 24 hours of freedom is enough for me. I can't be trusted on my own for much more than that. Booze, food, cigs, GAMBOL, internets... I seem to have less control over my vices the older I get. Kind of concerning.

-The fact that Kirk Herbstreit gets so much **** on twitter is still baffling to me. I just don't see how anyone can get upset by him or his takes. All seem reasonable and objective.

In fact, and maybe I'm showing my Kentucky Fan here, there just doesn't seem to be the same pettiness and partiality among college football personalities as exists with the basketball guys. Does Goodman, Forde, et al have their football counterparts?

-I don't see/feel the need to play with UBER INCREDIBLE golf balls anymore. Sleeve of Pinnacles or course logo 3 for $5 gets it done. Whatever.

-Some black char on my hot dog, please.

With a 30 second shot clock last year, there's a chance we could have had 4 straight SCVs instead of 3.

- Bare Naked Ladies were an interesting group. Seems most of their music is just a complete joke, like they tried to make it a joke. Yet, they also have some great ****- namely "Brian Wilson" and "Old Apartment" (which is a perfect song for college nostalgia).

- In related news, just made a "2000" mix on Spotify last night in anticipation of tonight's run.

- My friends' wives have complained about the fact my buddies rarely want to leave the house anymore. They're cool just chilling at home. This isn't nagging or anything either. They're totally right calling my boys out on this. Is this just a Married Guy thing? I've noticed it within myself more and more the last few years.

- I don't know, man. Being at the Keys past sunset seems a little iffy to me these days. Lass and I swung in for an afternoon beer when we rolled to Lex a few months back just so I could show her around and tell her stories she didn't want to hear.

- I don't get it either. Herbstreit catches all kinds of hell and the entire SEC HATES Gary Danielson, who I think is the best in the business.

Where's the incentive to leave? Basically just gonna go out, spend more money, look at hot tail you can't act on, risk getting busted staring, have some dude hit on your girl and maybe start a fight, have some crazy ex show up and create drama, risk driving home under the influence...

Marcus lay up, get loaded at home on the cheap, minimal risk of adverse event.

I wasn't necessarily even talking about bars. I was talking about becoming a complete homebody in general.

Like Chad, late September/early October is when my college nostalgia really kicks in, even now, 20 years  later. Just a great time to be on campus. It's pretty much guaranteed that if I drive through campus in the fall and turn on Pearl Jam, I'll get teary-eyed. College was also when Mrs. CMD and I started dating, so that just adds to it. The excitement of a new relationship coupled with bourbon at Commonwealth on a crisp, clear October day...:( I even miss the start of classes in the fall; they got old real quick, but walking through Kennedy's or the Student Center (RIP) buying new books, supplies, UK gear, etc. was great. A clean slate. Spring didn't have the same appeal. God, what a great 4 years.

The Keys sucks in the summer, though. Always has.

Really? Even during a home football game weekend? WTF is it even there for, then?

I'll concede Tin Roof but Two Keys is never off limits IMO.

Been a while rando's:

-Coaching a Little League All Star team in the Summer is great distraction between the end of basketball and the start of football. But we end in August so right now I am not sure what to do with myself.

-Moving errr closing on a house in Woodford County next week. We just needed more land for the kids to run. That 0.25 acre was just not cutting it. The new house has unfinished basement and 1.5 acres so that should do the trick.

-And this is the last move for me. We still have our house for sale (kill me) and my wife is a nazi for keeping it clean to show. I don't even want to be at home.

-Visited the new school yesterday for orientation. Woodford County has a high milf content.

-That new Vacation movie is going to flat suck. It actually makes me sad. Helms has his roles but I just don't he excels in a lead.

-Most sports leagues try to avoid the negative publicity but it seems the NFL yearns for it. I mean the Pats are cheaters but this is like putting OJ in jail for larceny instead of murder.

-1996 was my last year in college and probably the best year of my life. Basically I was only responsible for myself and had only 12 hours my last semester. Think about it often especially now with potentially having 2 mortgages. :chairshot:

Honestly don't know why anyone would ever eat a hog dog, or at least cook one at home: Obvious Exceptions: At the turn when golfing or at a ballgame or whatever for some quick fuel.

Italian Sausage and Brats >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hot Dog.

I'm friends with one of the owners at Two Keys, so I can kind of justify it, but even I feel old there.

Tin Roof doesn't bother me as much for some reason. Seems like they have a more "older" crowd. But rarely go their either.

The two week window in August while being back on campus with no classes was always one of my favorite times of year.

Setup the new digs, Rush parties, everybody has some jingle saved up from summer jobs, fresh crop of new talent to check out... Man.

The only time I have them is if I'm working in the yard or something and lunch time sneaks up on us. The girls love hot dogs so I will make them a quick & easy lunch.

Chopped up and microwaved for the kids.

If Marge and I have them, too, they are dropped in a pot of boiling water where they become plump and delicious.

I prefer Metts, Brats, italian sausage (non Anth), smoked sausage myself (all on the grill). But I don't always have them on hand.

There is always a pack or two of Hebrew National All Beef Franks in my fridge.

I mean, hot dogs are fine. Just don't see why anyone would willingly choose one unless they poor or are in a situation I listed above. I guess churrin are another acceptable reason. Still, There are brats/sausages/other tubular goodies available RIGHT BESIDE the hot dogs in any normal grocery.

You keep minute steaks & spam on hand too for "emergencies", Wildfat Willy?

Maybe if I'm in NYC or Chicago, or somebody ate all the brats, mets, Italian sausage and hamburgers...but other than that hot dogs can GTFO.

Yeah, if you're having a grill out and you offer me a touching hot dog, odds are pretty good I'll never come back.

So keep that in mind if you don't want me at your house but prefer to avoid confrontation. It will be a quick, smooth, & easy process. :sunglasses:

Hot dogs are fine at a sporting event, but for home consumption? No. Like BBdK said, brats and sassages are right there next to the hot dogs in your grocer's meat section; no reason to choose hot dogs, imo.

Anyone remember Frank 'n' Stuff hot dogs? Weiners stuffed with Hormel chili. Willingly ate them quite a bit, but sound awful now. They had a cheese version as well, which sounds only marginally less disgusting.

It is very rare that I have a hot dog at home, unless I am making cheese coneys. But not only do I boil them, I also make them "alligator" style…

Hot dog, pickle spear, shredded cheddar, mayo, yellow mustard.

But if I am going thru the effort of grilling, I am not going to waste my time with hot dogs.

And no, I don't have spam or minute steaks at home. And the hot dogs are on hand for the kids, but occasionally it will sound good to me.

I'll also "steal" one of their Caprisuns from time to time, or make an extra chicken nugget or two for the chef.
