Of course Harmon left out this:

He had nine first-half points, but Maker had 16. Then came the finishing flurry by Gabriel: a catch and finish in traffic, a baseline jumper and 3-pointer in Maker’s face, a steal, a putback, a block, a drive to draw a foul. The versatile Gabriel, who handles the ball and shoots like a guard, showed off his full bag of tricks in the span of about five minutes.

...while finishing with 24 & 10, and the win.

Amazing that a High School kid had a poor half though, that hardly ever happens. Probably will have some bad halves/games next year, too! Definitely overrated! Great analysis, Harmon.

There are about 100 articles out there about Gabriel playing great if you care to look for him, which is why he shot up the rankings more than any other player over the past 6 months.

Stick with Makayla Epps.

-[laughing] @ Harmon scouting a game. Stick to Potsyball, bubs.

-Why are we concerned with homegrown talent? Not sure I understand or give a ****. We recruit a little place called THE WORLD.

-Cal giving Skal the Andrew treatment. Trying to not be overly optimistic but for a non-privileged refugee, I think that is the right approach. He needs encouragement.

-Willis could be that random guy that steps up big in the UL game. They don't have anyone to match him.

-Obviously plenty that I'd add before him but Ravi wouldn't be a bad addition to this team. I'm now taking a guard that can shoot, play d and pick up a board.

-This weather means one thing. Jan-March is going to be BRUTAL. :weary:

-Beauty&Essex, Halal Guys, JG Melon are on he menu for NYC. I really haven't eaten at a lot of the notable places in NYC as many times as I've visited. I'd like to get over to Brooklyn for some Za but I don't see that happening. Should be fun hitting some of the tourist traps as I haven't done that in a while. WTC, RF, TS.

I wasn't bringing up those numbers to suggest that we NEED Kentucky kids to be better in order to help UK. UK doesn't have to rely on Kentucky kids. It was just an observation in response to the comment about the talent level in the state dipping.

It's nice to have home grown talent on UK, in particular the city you are from. Very cool to see the Minniefield's,Givens', Lee's,Turpin's, Mills' on UK if you are a Lexingtonian.

I hate to cast a pall on this morning's strategy session for raising our states' sport profile, but I might as well come out and disappoint the commonwealth with tidbit:

After eight months of intense evaluation, my wife and I have decided that our son will be going pro in something other than sports.

LOL, yeah going up against a top 3 player in his class, and dropping 24 /10, he is horrible. Team was down, he scores 11 straight points and they win by 10. I look at that as the kid didn't let a bad 1st half get to him, kept fighting, and when it COUNTED, he came up big. Nah, Thon felt sorry for him, knew he was having a below par game in front of his future college fans, so he let him get a few buckets to make him feel better. That Thon Maker is such a considerate guy, sacrificed his own teams success to help a kid struggling feel better about himself.

So, the buzz from the Star Wars premiere is that it is actually a good movie and feels like an actual Star Wars movie. If you're George Lucas how do you feel about that? Everyone **** all over your last batch of SW movies and apparently love the new one you're not involved with, but it's still your universe, your baby.

Dropping $50,000 at a strip club in Dallas? Damn, John Wall. For $50,000, you could probably buy Platinum or Spearmint Rhino in Lexington. [eyeroll]

The KHSAA does a pretty good job of "protecting" basketball at the high school level. We are probably one of the only states left not heavily influenced by AAU (or at least to the point where an AAU squad means more than a kid's high school squad). However, I do not think this will remain the case, unfortunately.

AAU is beginning to influence the way some high school programs operate. It's a way for some schools to develop a "feeder" program to their high school. The KHSAA governs grades 9-12, which leaves a ton of jostling going on in middle schools. For example, many AAU coaches set up 15 and under AAU squads and just pick and choose which kids to join up. Some kids are from this middle school X are from middle school Y. Some are from a totally different school district. What happens next is friendships and bonds are made. These kids want to play together at the high school level.

High school coaches are wising up to this and hiring these AAU coaches to run their middle school programs. The next thing you know, so-and-so from a county over has enrolled into this high school. The best run high school programs in my area right now have ties to the younger AAU circuit. By the time they enroll into high school to establish eligibility, they have assembled a legit squad.

I say all of that to say this: I think high school basketball in this state is evolving/migrating toward AAU. It's just a matter of time. I think in 10-15 years, high school teams will resemble area "all-star" teams and the little guys will just have to accept it. While that may upset traditionalists, I think it will increase the number of studs you'll get to see playing together. There will be more emphasis on gathering top-end talent to one location.

So Robert Nkemdiche was apparently on synthetics and didnt actually fall off a hotel balcony, but jumped through a dual pane hotel window bc he thought people were after him.

How much do you all think his rookie contract with the Bengals will be for?
First off GGP second of all rookie contracts are pretty much slotted now idiot and third of all the Bengals will probably be looking for secondary help before pass rushers.

For $4,000,000,000 I'd say he's cool with it.

The grassroots basketball in this state is going the way of baseball.

I coached for a pretty well known baseball program last year at the middle school level and summer team generally took priority over what we were doing(they also played league ball). Many of the kids has multiple practices and games in the same day...its going to cause an epidemic of injuries in the future. I've had 13 year olds with a sore elbow, should never happen. We had a strict pitch count and rest requirements but I worry not everyone does.

So you've got 13/14 year olds playing on 3 different baseball teams at the same time. Most of which also play football and some basketball. Ran into multiple times where we had to throw a kid who doesn't pitch much because the other teams had thrown someone within 3 days. This is going to be a major issue before anythtravel done.

Little league and the like are going to get weeded out with time. School teams are essentially feeder programs so they are necessary unless you're an absolute stud. The travel teams are necessary because it gets them noticed against top competition. The good old little league/cal ripken teams will be no more in a few years.

If anyone is wondering where to send your kid for travel ball id be happy to help. Xpress is a class club from top to bottom. The guy who owns it is truly in it for the kids which is rare anymore...

Uber/Lyft can now both pickup at SDF, wodie.

their whole ordeal just makes me want to launch into some crazy right winged government hating manifesto conspiracy rant, wildcatadam style.

basically, some dude took about 30 minutes to build an app that "fixed" every single pain in the *** issue in the entire industry. and of course local governments all over the country are doing everything in their power to keep them out of business. ugh.

Club teams/AAU influence is inevitable. Its gonna piss some people off but if it results in a better product and more opportunities for Kentucky kids to play at the next level- then thats what needs to happen.

Baseball continues in that direction, and hell girls volleyball was way ahead of the trend like 20 years ago, and Louisville HS's consistently have some of the top clubs/teams in the country.

The 2 best teams at 10u in Kentucky are Cal Ripken based. So might want to pump the brakes there a bit on the death of Rec Ball. South Lex is the most competitive organization in the State and would beat any travel team locally.

Agree 100% on the rash of injuries looming. We haven't touched a baseball in 5 months and might not until February. I know kids who play 100+ games and that's just way too much stress. We played 50 last year and that was only because we went deep into several tournaments. We then shut them down for the fall/winter.

My son does play soccer year round but they only play 25-30 games for the year. It is mostly practice based and developmental. The games are mostly blowouts for them so the real growth comes in practice. Same for baseball IMO.

Speaking of being irrationally fired up about organized youth sports, I find the "Junior Bearcats" partnership with my local, Northern Kentucky, YMCA to be more upsetting than it should be.

My wife definitely should not have jokingly pointed out that signage as we walked in for baby swim lessons last Saturday. I was not in the right headspace for our "Welcome Song Activity." Dangerous, imo.

I love that thing when BBdK catches onto something months, occasionally years after it's gone mainstream and then hypes the living F out of it like he discovered it. It's my favorite. That dude's going to be/is a fun old guy.

The one interview I saw, he didn't seem pleased at all. He had a ton of help with the scripts for the original trilogy and it was idiotic of him to take the prequels all on himself. I heard a trivia this morning that he had gd NSYNC in Attack of the Clones and someone came to their senses and cut that out. So he can get force pumped if he isn't happy someone is doing it better than him.

- How absurd would the Wynyard hype be if it were 1988? An unknown, unseen 6'10" woodchoppers' child from New Zealand joining a soft team midseason. My dad would be bringing him up every other thought.

- I just don't see how one could put any other sportswriter ahead of Dan Shaughnessy in the highly competitive Sportswriter DBag Power Rankings.

- The worst part about being a Bengals fans (okay, that's hyperbole) is having no retort for things such as this new Steelers surge in the media. If you're a UK basketball fan, you'd have no problem pulling the "F You- we'll see you in March." As a Bengals fan, you keep your mouth shut because you believe it all as much as the haterz.
