The whole Air Raid stuff is exciting to talk about and no doubt got us all excited back in 2011 when Stoops was hired. We were desperate for excitement and instantly went back to the last time we were truly fun. That was the Mumme era. All the Air Raid stuff was simply window dressing. This is the SEC and that gimmick stuff doesn't work. We tried it, didn't have the horses, so went to a run game with 185 pound backs. We had moderate success but of course, they are killed out by midseason. We should've focused on the last time we had success, not simply fun. Fun comes with success and in 2007, I had as much fun as anytime during the Mumme era.
It's obvious that Mark wants a ball control offense and with what we have in place, that is exactly what we need to bring in as Dawson's replacement. We aren't going to be LSU and Bama where we can run a back 40 times a game. What we can do is be an offense with a pro style but with spread formations just like we had in 2007. Our line has been hot ****, but are built and made for both pass and run blocking. We have tight ends who can get out and make plays, but at the same time, stay home and block if we go power. Our running back stable has both power and speed and our receivers have a mixture of tall guys to go up and make plays, speedy guys who can run routes, and smaller quick guys who can tear it up in the slot. PRO STYLE SPREAD.
