White Sox fan here, because of my mom and uncle that lived in Chicago. Saw lots of games with him, even took me to Cubs games when the Sox weren’t playing, man loved baseball!!

They normally suck, like this year, again!! Haven’t really gotten into baseball in years, except for the year they won recently. Don’t live and die over any team, not named the Kentucky Wildcats!!

Found 128 morels yesterday, terrible for this time of year. They’re finally coming up, only about a month later than I’ve ever experienced in 120 years. Walked 10 miles, fighting for every step, but it’s getting me in good shape! Spent 90% of the time climbing, crab walking and fighting through the fallen trees, boulders the size of cars, foliage and thorn bushes.

But I love doing it and it keeps me alive and sane. Except for the rock surfing that you never know when it might happen and it’s quite often. Crashes into trees and boulders hurt and it’s a challenge to not let that happen. Didn’t hit anything yesterday, but the contortions to keep from doing it, stretches you in ways that might be worse.

- The Reds have the best City Connect unis by a mile.

- My favorite things about baseball are the hilarious old timey names and lore from the early days of the game; the mascot choices and logos for minor league team (partial to the Chattanooga Lookouts, personally); and the steroid era/torpedo bats/gear that makes hitters absolutely MASH.

- I grew up in the DC area, but there wasn't a team until the Nats came down in the early 00s. Dad grew up a Reds fan, so we always liked the Reds growing up, and it was an easy jump on the bandwagon when I moved here as an adult. Plus, there's a unique stripe of misery that Reds fans, Bengals fans, and UK football fans all know and understand. It's nice to have company in which to be miserable, atkot.

Plus, Elly De La Cruz is a phenom and I feel pretty lucky I get to see him play on the regular.

Ehhh. I don't agree. I like their connects, especially considering their regular unis have been trash since Eric Davis played, but I'm not sure they're the best.

Blue Jay's, Braves, Miami, Padres, Mets and White Sox are all really cool.

-wgn/tbs fans... you're in essence UKO. Horrible.

Serious question: if you lived in, say, Louisville back in 1987, were you able to watch all the Reds / Cards games? I am a TBS Braves fan, but so was pretty much every other kid from Eastern Tennessee back in the 90s. It was the closest team, but the biggest thing was that I could watch every game. Are you blaming them for being savvy marketers?

^I got to watch a bunch of reds games on tbs/wgn as a youth.

^I do apologize for comparing yall to UKO. That's beyond the pale. Mea culpa.

The Reds did have their share of games on WDRB in the 1970's and 1980's. WLWT out of Cincinnati did a lot of broadcasting deals with surrounding states for the Reds and WDRB gladly took the Reds and even the Bob Braun show. WDRB until Fox came along in the late 80's and they became an affiliate, was always looking for programming that was cheap and would sell in Louisville. WDRB didn't even have a news division until the 90's.

IIRC, Reds were always on in Louisville - Ch 41 I believe. Cardinals were not.
Growing up in the Purchase (I'm 48 today), it was not always easy to watch Cardinals games even though they were the closest team (by a long shot) geographically. Was able to get some road games and when they were Game of the Week.

Happy Birthday, beagle.

Also, if I recall correctly, St. Louis had one of the few clear-chaannel radio stations of the time (KMOX?), so Cardinals radio network reached many Midwest rural areas that other stations couldn't, which kind of made the team of middle America.

/Old, but also, John Grisham wrote about it

NIL or not, the only way I understand a kid picking Indiana over Kentucky is if you were born and raised in Indiana and, even then, the normal ones wind up at UK or another school. I haven't known any Indiana grads that weren't odd in some way. The Big Ten, in general, has so many weird sex scandals and IU is part of that long deviant heritage going back to Kinsey through to the team basketball doctor giving unneeded rectal exams during the Knight years. The worship of a sociopath like Knight, excusing player abuse and personnel abuse for years,.but because he won, trying say he to did it with integrity (except for lying about choking players). The candy stripe pants, going on about the "Wat Shot", the 30+ years of irrelevance, etc.

If you choose that and a few extra dollars over playing basketball at the University of Kentucky and all that comes with it, I say with total sincerity, thank you God. I don't want someone on the court in crunch time making a split second decision that makes such a stupid decision that they had time to think about.

-not a few... 900k *more* than UK offer. As an old dude who hates IU above all other "rival" programs... I can't blame the kid, that's a whole lot of money.

Thank you! And yes, KMOX had a huge reach all across the Midwest, West and down into the South. The Cardinals were the western-most team for many years, so that also increased the geographic area of the fanbase.

Supposedly it was about $200k and Wilkerson was telling people he was going to select UK, then the IU coach flew to Arkansas to meet him in person and raised the offer while also saying he would hire a friend or family member.

It doesn't burn me so bad when another school significantly overpays for a guy.

- Emilio Pagan is a maniac. Like, he may have a severed torso in the trunk of his ‘02 Regal at any given time.

- This pitching staff.

- Experiencing baseball on over-the-air television and AM radio is a generational divide that those under us will have never known. And it is such an integral fabric of how we understand sports, as has been well explained here today.

- Speaking of AM radio, I tried to buy just a basic AM radio I could plug into the wall, for listening to 700 the old fashioned way. But they appear not to exist? At least halfway decent ones. Clown or Beave, can I still buy a decent old man AM radio?

- I dislike the Cardinals for obvious reasons, very much so. But I will always recognize that they are the best run baseball club of all time. It’s amazing how long they have done things the right way. They still blow tho, obviously.

- last school night before non-heretic spring break. Heading out west Sunday afternoon. Been a while, looking forward to it.

Still can't get over Wilkerson saying he didn't want to be just another guy at Kentucky. I guess I had higher expectations for him than even he did because I though him and Oweh together were going to be stars.

Those are majestic. Had the exact uniforms made as alternates for my coach pitch team a few years ago. Good chance I'm on the Cardinals again next season and will have them again.

I mean he was the 39th ranked portal player from Sam Houston State. If he thought he was going to be the focal point at UK get real 😂 We’re trying to go to a final four FFS

Recruiting is integral but so is one other piece of the puzzle Cal removed from the skulls of BBN -> Talent Development.

The growth of... Chandler
I think that kid is going to be a solid guard here next year. I'm not that worried about Lewis or Wilkerson, tbh, because as long as we get Oweh back I think our backcourt is going to be pretty damn solid next year.

I'm fine if we stick with 12 players unless there's someone out there we don't know about.

I'd like a 40%+ 3 point specialist to go along with the development is all. Maybe Chandler or Noah can turn into that.
