I'm pretty sure I'm one of the best amateur chefs out there. I can do it all. Indian, Italian, Steaks, French, BBQ, bread... you name it. With one exception. Chi-effing-nese. No matter what recipes I follow. No matter what ingredients I use. It all comes out tasting like soy sauce-drenched soggy rice and unseasoned meat. What gives?
Are you using whatever the American-Chinese restaurants use to make you feel as full as a tick after a meal, but somehow starving only two hours later?

Well sweet and sour should taste different than kung pao which should also taste different than sweet chili Thai so I’m not sure how all that taste the same, but……

Frying rice with salt pepper, garlic, ginger, veggies and egg is pretty hard to mess up.

This isn’t rocket science.

I’m fairly certain that Dickie V referred to Walter McCarty as “Chinese Food” once. Something about looking appetizing but not filling you up for long. Hell I don’t know it was a long time ago and I was a stoner in those days, I just remember thinking it was an odd reference.

  1. How does one get wrongly accused for having kiddie porn? "Oh no, no, no... the girls in the pictures I have only look 13?"
  2. Why would the wrongly accused even mention it to someone else?
  3. What kind of sick weirdos do you hang out with?

Pretty easy when you are in high school and under 18. My friend was dating a girl and decided he didn't want to be with her anymore. She alleged they made sex tapes together and he was into minors (even though they were both 16 at the time) so much so that he had pictures of other younger girls on his pc. AP hears about it and reports it to authorities.

It was scary for him because none of it was true but you mention possible exploitation and the SBI goes wild.

  • I was in Charlotte NC when we won the 96 title. Weather was perfectly fine. Broadcast went out a few minutes into the final against Syracuse. Had to watch it in some grainy nonsense on some jank antennae my dad set up. Happened a couple times earlier that year too. 100% sure some dipshit Carolina fan working there sabotaged me. I'll never forgive or forget.
  • My dad and I didn't watch the 92 Duke game, 96 finals or 97 finals together, even though we were in the same house. I didn't think it was odd at the time. And it's not like we didn't watch UK games together. Some of my most vivid memories were going to sports bars in the 90's with my dad to watch those epic UK-Arkansas games. I chalk it up to my dad having to focus in the biggest of games. Ha!
  • My dad took my to one UK football game when I was a kid - we always lived at least 5 hours away from Lexington. Auburn at UK when Alfred Rawles was our RB. News flash. We lost that game. The other three major memories of UK football as a kid are:
    • Typical: Watching us get our *** kicked by UT in a Daryl's Restaurant around Thanksgiving weekend
    • Horrible: Marty Moore fumbling the interception against Clemson
    • Best: Mo Williams running for 299 against USC
  • It's odd what sticks in your mind as vivid, seminal moments that revolved around UK sports. Some notable ones:
    • UK beating Alabama in football in '97. Specifically when I was pinned under the goal post after we tore it down.
    • Going to the UK-UT game in '98. Yeah, we got blown out, but I remember that entire day like it was yesterday. Epic party in Knoxville.
    • Duke 98 which I watched at BW in Lex.
  • In each of the examples above, I remember most of not just the game, but the full day.

I've tried to listen to the Field of 68 podcast in pieces as I was able this week. Some random nuggets you might have missed:
  1. They track every shot during the summer, especially 3P%. The goal is to get over 70% and we have 7 (iirc) guys doing it now and one guy who is close with 68-69%. I will give you that player's name at the end because it is awesome.
  2. Andrija Jelavic's nickname, per Otega, is "Yella". Dioubate's nickname, per Pope, is Mo-Tivation because Mo always has a motivational saying for the team.
  3. Yella is hitting 77% from 3 in practice.
  4. Jasper was the only freshman they let talk and after Brandon leaves, Jasper is going to be my favorite. His grandmother is apparently the best cook in the world. He gets made fun of in his family full of football behemoths for being too skinny. He stayed with granny one weekend and gained 7 pounds. 😅
  5. Otega has mike skills. He held court with Goodman and Dauster for a full segment. That kid is this century's Tony Delk. Cool and smooth. Colin and Kam should not quit their day jobs any time soon.
  6. They broke into the position groups:
    • Guards --
      • Jaland Lowe
      • Denzel Aberdeen
      • Colin Chandler
      • Jasper Johnson
      • (Otega Oweh didn't suit and I am not sure if he would go here or at the wing)
    • Wings --
      • Trent Noah
      • Kam Williams
      • Brayden Hawthorne
    • Forwards --
      • Mo Dioubate
      • Andrija Jelavic
    • Bigs --
      • Brandon Garrison
      • Malachi Moreno
      • Reece Potter
      • (Jayden Quaintence did not suit but will certainly be here)
  7. Brandon Garrison is hovering just below 70% from the three point line. If BG becomes a legit three point threat from the top of the key, this offense will be like seeing the future. And if he ever pump fakes and three and takes some jabroni off the drive for a dunk, my heart may explode... and it might be worth it.
Great post, Waterhead. Off the top of my less-watery head:
  1. Storming the field against UGA when I was in law school. One of my buddies went to UGA undergrad. I remember during the game Myron Prior laid a Dawg out and from the stands we thought there was a chance he might be seriously hurt. Both teams were praying and I told some drunk jackass in the student section to stop taunting and be quiet. Later, when we rushed the field, the drunk kid came over to my UGA-fan buddy and asked why his Georgia fan buddy (meaning me) rushed the field while he stayed in the stands. I will always remember that.
  2. Stevie Got Loose. We were in the upper student section and rode the wave of people all the way on to the field. That was my first time rushing the field. The drop looked like it might legit cripple me from the top. The stadium was SWAYING up top. I remember the jumbotron momentarily blanking out during the replay because of the commotion. (Whether it happened that way or not, don't correct me).
  3. Losing to Duke. 92. First UK basketball game I ever watched. Me and my little brother laying on our bellies on one of those huge 90s oversize pillows most of the game. I remember burying my head in the pillow after the loss.
  4. Beating LSU and rushing the field. Braxton Kelly was a bad, bad man that day. I can remember being so confident in the defense that day. When Rich Brooks had us rolling for that brief moment, we could play some damn good football on both sides of the ball. I remember it being at dusk and the sky getting low as the game was ending.
  5. 2012 title game. All my friends piled in a buddy's mancave. I will never forget the moment the buzzer went off. We just erupted in unison.

I'm going to qualify this by saying I don't think the FCC and Trump should be going after Jimmy Kimmel or anybody else because of their political views. And I especially don't like that these journalist wankers get to now act like their backs are against the wall and it's Watergate all over again where they are the heroes of mankind (which was never the case), but I digress.

That said, what in the hell is wrong with Jimmy Kimmel? He had an approval rating of like 90% from American men coming off the Man Show. All he needed to do was not be a woke *****. That's it. But no, that was too hard for the guy. Bill Simmons is over there on his pod crying in his beer because "Jimmy is the face of ABC" and this is so terrible. But...

1) Who thinks Jimmy Kimmel is the face of ABC?
2) Why would any network want Jimmy to be the face of their network?
3) If you are the face of ABC, why would you constantly attack 50% of America?

Lastly, "Jimmy Kimmel Live" averaged nearly 1.6 million viewers in 2025. Basically 1 in 220 people watch it. This is not going to have the effect people think it will.

He was 100% in the wrong, and I have no idea why anyone would go in TV and say such a thing in the complete absence of facts to support it, but I also fear we are going down a very dangerous path (for about 15 years at least) where the government is putting its thumb on the scales of these matters. George Carlin would have had a field day with this stuff.

I've been fortunate to be there in person for all 4 titles we've won in my lifetime (starting with 1978).

There is no better adrenaline / euphoria rush on the planet. Only 4x in my life - when I was 12, 30, 32 and 46. The feeling is the same every time.

Only thing comparable for me was when my son's HS lacrosse team won state.

It's the payoff for following 365 days for years / decades in between. And it is a hell of a payoff. It's what makes this all worthwhile.

I just wish I could find the Jim Rome take on the UK fan that wrecked the live reporting after the '12 ship by saying "I'm F***ing AWESOME" on TV, before the awkward cut to Sam Dick and crew, back in the remote studio. Never been able to hear it.

I had no idea Jimmy Kimmel was even on tv still until this week. Regardless, yeah, whole situation is kind of depressing. So let’s smoke some drugs, and cheer up!

Late Friday Five:

5. Beck - Rowboat
4. Waylon - Mental Revenge
3. Sturgill - A Good Look
2. STP - Art School Girl
1. NIN - Head Like a Hole

Some of the post from yesterday has me feeling nostalgic about my UK fandom. I became a UK fan and a Duke hater on the same day in November of 1979.
I had just turned 8 years old and had just discovered the game of basketball. I was outside shooting on a very makeshift basketball goal that was nailed to a tree in the front yard. I go in for a little break and our 26 inch, state of the art Curtis Mathis entertainment center (It had AM/FM, 8 track and a record player on it) just happens to be on the UK/Duke game. It was the inaugural Tip Off Classic, as I have researched the game. I had no prior knowledge of UK basketball or anything like that. I vaguely remember my dad watching them.
I sat there glued to the TV rooting for UK like crazy. We wind up losing in OT and I cried like a baby. Fast forward to March of 1980 and we lose by 1 point to Duke at Rupp in the NCAA tournament. The infamous Kyle Macy Mono game.
I’ve been hooked on UK ever since and it seemed to me that it chose me instead of me choosing it, based on my reaction to that first game.
Most UK fan’s hatred of Duke dates back to 92, but mine dates way back to that 79-80 season watching us lose twice to them.
UK FB came a little later and strictly through Cawood’s call on the radio. 99.1 WCBL out of Benton. Ransdell, Adams,Calhoun, Joker, etc. It was rare to catch a UK FB game on TV in Western Ky and to me at the time, Lexington seemed like a million miles away. Leonard’s Losers on the radio was a great primer to get you ready for a Saturday of College FB back then.
I didn’t catch my first live UK basketball game until 86 and FB game in 93, when a HS classmate of mine, Pookie Jones was the starting QB.
I admittedly can only make a game or two a year in person. UK-Duke in ATL last season was awesome as was Oweh’s heroics against OU in the SEC tournament. Saw us get blitzed by Alabama. 3 games is a banner year for me.
My best live FB memory besides being there for the win over Penn St in the Citrus Bowl was being at the Mizzou game in Columbia earlier that season. My daughter had free tickets through the company that she worked for in KC and we sat at the top on the Mizzou side. The most UNUK FB ending of all time! Conrad with the walk off. Lynn Bowden and Josh Allen 🙌
I tell myself that being a fan and allowing ballgames between 18-22 year olds shouldn’t have that big of an affect on me, but man if it’s in you, it’s in you and although I don’t cry outwardly (inwardly maybe) I’ve still got the same passion for it as I did the first time I caught the bug as an 8 year old.
Sorry so long, but it’s a slow day. GO CATS!!

My issue is that the portion of these comedy shows that are primarily focused on politics (SNL included) are terrible. Maybe if they didn’t make up a large bulk of the show, less might be more.

I used to like those shows as an escape from all the political bs and there’s not that much that’s funny about politics to focus that much programming on.

Johnny Carson is the king for a reason. He understood what his job was. He was probably liberal, but he didn’t try to offend half of his potential audience with his monologue.
It was easier back then I think.

Another whack job, this time in New Hampshire, at a country club wedding. A young man walked in, yelled "Free Palestine" and opened up with a gun. Shooter is in custody. Initial reports are that the bride was shot and killed.

It's a travesty that both Indiana and Vandy are better at football than us currently.

Reds are 1 game back of the Wildcard primed to break my heart.
Cignetti and Lea are both going to be at the top of the list for any major job opening. Florida is going to get it right eventually.
Speaking of IU, around 2000,01??, I went to a game between UK-IU that featured Lorenzen at QB for UK and Antwan Randle-El at QB for IU. UK wins and those two put on a show. Both, in much different ways, were athletic freaks!

Max DOMINATES for the second race in a row.

What I love about him is, with a 15 second lead, on a difficult track, he set 2 fastest laps ON THE LAST TWO LAPS. Take no prisoners, never play it safe. 🤣

Greatest race car driver in the world, in any circuit. And honestly, the best driver I've ever seen in my life.

-I just don’t see how Kiffin isn’t the obvious answer at UF.

- It was a great Saturday not having to set aside 4 hours to watch UK. Detailed the truck, pressure washed the driveway, helped my son get ready for homecoming dance and took pics, took my little guys to Kart Country then got them Sushi and still got to catch the end of Mizzou/USC and Miami/UF.

- Not popular but we can beat USC. Sellers being back is not making it a lock since 2/3 of their OLine went down and at least 1 of their DLine went down too. We should be able to control the line on both sides of the ball.

- UF is now beatable too. This one needs no explanation as they will fold up by that game.

- I’m ready to see UL play somebody. They will be well coached and they can run the ball, but I’m not sold on the defense or Moss once a team can get pressure.

Who is Ashley in relation to GYERO and the Wodie Crew? Today I noticed we have 10 mutual friends from here. Her son has had class with my daughter this year and one other so she’s at least acquaintances with my wife, they may even text occasionally.

Don't fear the political board fellas.
Water is wonderful over there.
;););)

If you LIKE discussing politics/the economy etc., and you take advantage of the ignore function, it's pretty good. It helps if you're not stupid/uninformed though. (that's what the ignore button is for)

Bonus: I give free math lessons/problems on there occasionally, so how can you go wrong?
