Stoops is not getting another job if we win out. That's what started all this BS with his contract and how we got to where we are now. He's not a sexy hire and never has been. He's always gonna be the hire for a Power 4 program that whiffed on their first 5 or 6 choices. He's not losing his job this year either.
He's not walking away from the money or restructuring where it's not to his benefit. The team has rallied and he's Barnhart's guy. Unless I'm mis-remembering, Stoops has done this a couple times before where the schedule was loaded on the back half so he got off a couple of times to 5-1 starts but then the schedule got really hard and we started losing. This year the schedule was a lot harder the first half and now we're taking advantage. At the same time, good on him, I always want UK to win and I'm not gonna root for him to !ose and always admire people who overcome adversity.
Barnhart, OTOH, has got to be sent packing(and probably won't) but he's public enemy number one as far as I'm concerned. No accountability and in charge for far, far, too long. Our window of opportunity has probably closed on this year's coaching carousel. Sumrall has got to get either LSU or Auburn and there are still openings at Florida and Penn State. Other places like VTech have a head start. Other jobs like Ole Miss may find themselves with an opening. Anyone we get will be a coordinator (and Stein, who is my choice at this point, may be off the board, too), a FCS or D-II guy and hope you win the lottery and get the next Cignetti or if all else fails you get a retread like a Malzahn or Freeze and I don't think you get rid of Stoops for one of those guys.
I can't see us losing Cutter to NIL. I feel sure whatever the number is, it will be met because it has to be. UK can't have the PR nightmare of having a favorite son who is THE piece to build it's football program for the next 2-3 years, leave for another SEC school or Big Ten because UK did not want to pay and then UK try to say it's serious about competing in SEC football. The kid is diehard UK and unless there's something we don't know behind the scenes, if he and his family think UK is doing right by him, there's nothing to worry about. Part of the reason he left Larue County to play at LCA was to be in close proximity to the UK football program.
