My fandom has been reduced to rooting for teams I don’t like to lose in other games. Go Winthrop…

Writing off the coach 5 games into his second season following a really good first season is such a raftardian take and the last thing this thread needs. It’s basically dead but we have to at least try and attempt to make it the last rational thread in this entire board like it used to be. Otherwise let’s just shut it down.
Not writing Pope off but we all remember the reaction around here the night he was chosen. The following day BBN rallied around Mitch's interview on KSR. Days later we went all in on Pope purely based on 90s nostalgia at a presser. Last year was fun no doubt but this isn't a learn on the job type job. Don't get embarrassed by the Louisville's and Michigan St's of the world. We're 0-2 there. Painter said his team didn't scout UK. At the time it sounded like sour grapes. Now I'm not so sure.

12/2 - UNC
12/5 - Zags
12/13 - IU
12/20 - St. John's

We sure as sh*t better start winning some of these big games.

I distinctly remember Krazy or someone posting a video breaking down his offenses in crazy detail that changed a lot of tunes overnight. Of course, when you have Cal's "GO" offense for 15 years, anything can look appealing.

We aren't running any of that **** right now. None of the guys look happy out there and the only one that seems to really be busting his *** is Chandler. It's hard to fathom how incredibly bad Oweh has been this year. It almost feels like his nonchalant attitude is rubbing off on the transfers and the freshmen.

Pope either sends a message ASAP or this thing goes off the rails quickly.

I don’t give a **** about some stupid reaction after hiring - we won the most games against ranked teams in the entire history of the program last year and went to the s16 for the first time since 2019 with half the team injured. That’s just the facts. The team this year has looked like complete *** but I’m willing to give the guy a couple years seeing as how we’ll have to start a new damn team every year. If I wanted to read a bunch of posts about how Pope isn’t the right man for the job I’m sure I can go to rafters and read 50 threads saying it.

Hard to begin where to start as bad as that looked, but sadly our defense has made 2 teams look like they were full of Steph Curry’s.

Our M2M principles are non existent, and I have no idea why we didn’t zone tonight at all as bad as MSU is at shooting but against quality teams we are giving up 90 a game and that’s flat out embarrassing.

On offense Pope’s style does not mesh with the team he put together, and that’s even if Lowe was healthy. This team has to primarily be attacking the rim and posting up like a typical Cal team would.

I may be wrong but so far it looks more like he put together a team to play last years SEC schedule but gave up 90% of what his scheme is designed to do by going all in on bigger, stronger and athletic.

Lastly the game isn’t this guys fault but Garrison is almost unplayable right now. He has absolutely no clue what to do right now and it’s borderline sad TBH.

Oweh jogging behind his man as they run through screens for wide open curls at the FT line tells the whole story. Completely surprised and frustrated by his lack of effort.

Doing the too small celebrations against 6'4 whiteys from Valpo and running shots for Walker Horn with the shot clock off are red flags.

Third time this team has been punked in the last 2.5 weeks. Damn, come on Wildcats.

Thank God we're headed to Nashville to ruin those dipshits special season.

Pope sounds defeated in post game comments.

This might not be warranted but I’d sit Oweh and Garrison to start

Jasper Johnson(hate this but serves a purpose)
Aberdeen
Chandler
Dioubate
Moreno

I’d rotate Oweh in at the 17 minute mark for Jasper, and Williams for Chandler, Jelavic for Dioubate and Garrison for Moreno at the 15 minute mark.

That would make my 2nd team

Aberdeen, Oweh, Williams, Jelavic and BG

with the next sub bring Jasper in to spell Aberdeen.

Figuring out how to stagger that rotation and keep 3 shooters on the floor at all times takes creativity but that does it some.

My major concerns have been echoed here already. Chemistry, heart, and intangibles are my biggest worries. These are the things Pope said this fan base would never have to worry about. Well . . .

Also, we must remember it's still a week before Thanksgiving! Teams change throughout this meat grinder of a season. We'll be unrecognizable in March. So will Sparty. So will UL. In the words of a good Wildcat Friend I once knew that posted here, "We'll see."

Clearly, Pope has learned some things about this team . . . and himself. I've let the cake bake before. Why would I not do it now?

It's gut-check time for Pope already. Fix it. I don't care how. Just fix it.

- Your team will rise to the level of your best player’s work ethic. Our supposed best player, Oweh, is a dog with fleas right now. He’s not surrounded by shooters this year, so his offense is still rough, but if he’s not going to bust his butt then why would anyone else.
-Garrison is awful. Zero instincts. The effort on the one possession was laughable. Just put hands up and he gets a rebound. He didn’t. He gone over the semester. His minutes need to go down.
-23 played to his strength in second half. Driving hard. The offense is stagnant and clogged with him and 10 in together.
- Not getting paint touches. Nothing inside out. If we do, we settle for midrange shots.
- Pope did nothing to help. No timeouts no defensive changes, nothing.
- Heat is coming towards him. The aw shucks attitude only goes so far.
- How did Pringle for Arkansas not get a flagrant foul at end of Arky game?

MoD, Chandler, Aberdeen, and Moreno is our team right now. They are our best, most consistent performers. Maybe Oweh finds his way out of the wet paper doo doo bag to join them.

I will add that those 4 players are lovely, beautiful, and make the world go 'round. Be more like those 4. If we were all more like them, the world would be a better place.

Well this is just a special and typical post.

3/1/25- #1 Auburn
2/22/25- #4 Alabama
3/14/25- #5 Alabama (SEC Tournament)
3/28/25- #6 Tennessee (NCAA Tournament)
11/8/25- @#12 UL
11/18/25- #17 MSU (NY)

Lumping all that together to make whatever point you are making and ignoring the Jaxon Robinson injury to finish last year and the season overall just to make these 2 loses seem even worse somehow is really special.

It’s November and Pope will figure it out and have us competitive. As disappointing as these two game have been there is too much talent to just lose them all which is all BBN is responding

I, for one, think it’s okay to point out that we routinely get blown out by good teams. 2 of those were home games and 3 were neutral. Not being even competitive in any of them is a problem.

Garrison watching balls bounce beside him without moving is one thing, when he runs to the paint after every single screen and essentially plays defense on other guys driving is infuriating.

How many of our players are making more money right now than they ever will at any point of the rest of their lives?

I imagine this isnt a kentucky specific problem but when you make kids like Brandon Garrison a (multi?) millionaire playing a game theyre not even really that good at a good portion of them will become less hungry and they will stop working. Can we put Oweh in that same category? He looks like he couldnt give any less of a **** about whats going on out there.

Whats the fix? A salary cap? incentivized pay? How many millions between the football and basketball program have been wasted this year?

EDIT TO ADD:

I said it last week and ill say it again. this dude really is at least half retarded. all it takes is having two big honks on the floor and this dude doesnt even know who to guard. I dont think it would be hard to filter out players like this. possibly could be done with a coloring book.

Regarding some previous posts, the idea is to win. If we're OK losing to teams that are ranked higher or losing when we have an injury, then what is the point of it all? No one was content that we sucked in 2013 after Nerlens got hurt. The talent we supposedly have should be able to overcome an injury to one player and one that everyone knew would be out for an extended time. Something isn't right in the locker room or with the coaching plan. There's nothing to point to that says Pope can't right the ship, but losing breeds discontent. He's never had this kind of pressure in his coaching career. I trust that he can do it, but it needs to happen pretty soon.
