Does "vacation in glacier" mean you are headed to Glacier National Park? It's a beautiful spot, but I would advise against any lengthy nature walks. The grizzlies there are plentiful, and they mean business.
No lie. Someone from San Diego was attacked in May. 1 or 2 attacks per year. They don't play.

I've never been to New Hampshire, or any of New England, for that matter. I imagine a summer or early fall trip would be ideal, no?

Highs in the 60’s and 70’s for the foreseeable future in my parts. Going to be dodging a bit of rain but it’s manageable. The black flies still holding on is about all I have to complain about, those little bastards suck. Summers are much nicer up here than most parts of the country.

This sounds like the summers of my youth on Minnesota's north shore.

Yep. One of my favorite places on earth, behind their Alberta park cousins Waterton, Banff, and Jasper. I understand that there have been a couple of grizzley attacks this spring, and the Grinnell path hasn't reoopened. GTSR opens this week though. I will be eating many huckleberries.

More importantly, I think I have a 40% chance that both of my kids are going to get engaged on this trip.
Congratulations, Double A. That's awesome.

This you?
That is me. What makes it different is I didn’t have to make something up about the poster. The guy took the day off to go fishing and you know his reasoning was because it’s Juneteenth. Then he’s dumb enough to make a post asking what everyone else is doing for the day like it’s some sort of national holiday that everyone gets off.

Manchester, Concord, Milford. I may have some time to sneak away to get to the mountains.

Milford? That’s random. Haven’t made it to those parts in my travels. If you decide to come up North keep an eye on the weather. Pretty unsettled weather pattern up here this next week and especially if you’re planning on getting up high.

a few years back when we were doing the grinnell hike, we came around a sharp bend on the trail and (thankfully) there was a group of people stopped there, with hands on their bear spray holsters. To their left, about 70 yds off the trail, was a grizzley gorging itself on huckleberries. To the right, a moose and her calf. Talk about Scylla and Charybdis...!

And to put a finer point on it, as I'm nursing a broken foot at the moment, this year I am VERY cognizant of the old yarn about only having to be faster than the slowest person in your group.

I will be headed up to Tahoe for the 4th, and the Tahoe Basin reportedly has the highest density of black bears on Earth. The development my home is in is surrounded by forest, so we see bears wandering through from time to time. They break into unoccupied homes from time to time, and that happened to my home in April. They make the rounds of the dumpsters every single night, in the hope that some renter or guest who does not understand the phrase ("A fed bear is a dead bear") forgets to relatch the chain after tossing something in their dumpster.

Thankfully, black bears tend to be afraid of humans, and are very wary of loud noise or bright lights. They invariably take off running when confronted by a human. But grizzly bears are a whole different matter. Although my alma mater's mascot is the "Golden Bear" (a California specie of grizzly bear that is now extinct), it is a good thing that they are no longer living in California. Some eco-nut group wants to reintroduce grizzly bears in California, and is proposing to do so in the far northern part of the state, up near Mt. Shasta. That is a frickin' terrible idea.

Indeed.

I haven’t hit up Vermont in my travels yet. Where’s a good place to grab a bite? White River Jct.? Not looking to go crazy, but want to check the state off my list.

When going to VT I usually go through St. Johnsbury on my way towards Stowe/Burlington. I’m blanking on the name of it but there’s a fantastic bakery and a damn good Asian food place caller supa spice. The only time I took I89 through we just went on by. Sorry, not much help there. If you happen to go through Plymouth in your travels go to Biederman’s Deli. The best damn sandwiches out there.

Juneteenth is an official federal holiday. Banks, post offices, even the New York Stock Exchange are all closed today.
Ok and your point is?
Fatty Mc fat works for the University of Iowa. Not a bank, post office or the New York stock exchange.
What else do you have Mr. White last name Knight?

You said Torbee was "dumb enough to make a post asking what everyone else is doing for the day like it’s some sort of national holiday that everyone gets off." Not everyone gets it off, but Juneteenth is a national federal holiday. You're wrong in implying that it isn't a national holiday. Because you're always wrong.

@Gibbs_dontbanmetom How much does it piss you off that Iowa Football posted this today?

Are you trying to say that I don’t think Americans should have freedom to choose what they want? If you’ve been paying attention to any of my thread that you’re trolling in, that’s what I want, freedom. Not someone pushing an agenda or anything else on someone.
sorry it’s been such a fail day for you today, especially in this and the other thread.

The thing is, emancipation day is actually more worthy of a national holiday than a number of the ones that preceded it. It marks the country taking the action to get through its original sin.

But Jesus that name. It could be on any one of seven days.

You purposely left off part of my post in a gotcha attempt. I’ll bold that part for you.

As I pointed out, he did not get the day off as a holiday. He took the day off pretending he got it off as a holiday. So he took the day off for celebrating and went fishing. Only possible bigger loser than him is you.

Doesn’t change the fact that Juneteenth is a national federal holiday. Maybe your boy Trump should rescinded that designation.

Being born a black person and promoting be part of the rainbow community isn’t the same thing there bud. Might be time to take a break from here.
I'm not sure what you mean by "be part of the rainbow community." Presumably, you meant being supportive of gay rights, as opposed to being gay. I say that largely because it would make little sense to market Pride Night to a large gathering of baseball fans (most of whom are likely straight) if the message was "be gay." Also, I think it is because being gay is not a lifestyle choice but, rather, something that you are born with. I realize that debate continues on that subject, but every gay person I have ever known has one or more siblings who are straight. They grew up in the same household, and one is gay while one is straight. To me, that seems to put the "nature vs. nurture" question to rest.

Returning to your post, it seems like a waste of time to me to try and "force" people to support either gay rights/culture or black rights/culture. When has telling people what to believe worked out well? I DO, however, think that going out of one's way to show antipathy towards gays is a bad look, and worthy of criticism. It is fair to ask people to be somewhat tolerant and nondiscriminatory towards blacks and gays.
