Has Matt Shaub always sucked this bad?

Neither NFL franchise in Texas

has the caliber quarterback that it takes to go really deep in the playoffs. Both would make excellent backup QB's but neither consistently gets it done as a starter. Meanwhile, NE keeps rocking along with Brady.

Not so fast. Many of my Falcons friends would love to have Schaub back.

Pre-Matty Ice yes....

I believe there was a year or so that Vick was floundering at QB just before he got pinched for his dog circus where Shaub did very well.

Come back next week after San Fransicko violates that ***. Atlanta is very, very lucky Seattle waited until Q3 to show up.

What's the difference between a dirty bird and a dirty tub? A dirty tub has a ring?

3rd quarter?

You talking about the 3rd quarter where Atlanta had almost an 8 minute TD drive? The only reason Seattle had a shot was because Atlanta went into cruise control in the 4th quarter and Matt Ryan made a terrible pass for the int. If not for that pass, Seattle never takes the lead and probably loses by 2 scores.

Whatever. Matty thin Ice finally wins one playoff game. Mike Smith should be fired, but the team somehow bailed out his incompetence. A 4 quarter Seattle team wipes the floor aGAINst a 4 quarter Atlanta team. Atlanta has ZERO chance aGAINst this San Fransicko team.

Wow you are a complete moron. Mike Smith is 56-24 with the Falcons. No way he should be fired. What everyone fails to see is that Atlanta has lost the last 2 playoff games against two teams that ended up winning the super bowl. They just beat a good Seahawks team that was about as hot as you can get. You must be an Aints fan with the hatred you have for Atlanta.

Am I the only one that knows how to spell San Francisco?

Oh. I see what he is trying to do. Cute.

You realize this year is the first year for Ryan to have a higher QB rating than Schaub? I'd say it is fairly likely that many ATL fans would rather have Schaub.

And you would be dead wrong. There are plenty of Falcons fans who thought they should have traded Vick and kept Schaub, no doubt, but Matt Ryan has made everyone forget all of that. In just his 6th game as a rookie, Ryan brought the Falcons back against the Bears. The Bears scored a TD with just 11 seconds left. Harry Douglas got a decent kickoff return, but the Falcons only had 6 seconds left and no timeouts. Ryan threw a 26 yard sideline pass to Michael Jenkins and left 1 second on the clock for Elam to win the game. Matt showed why he is called Matty Ice (which he allegedly doesn't like), and no one has ever questioned him since.

Ryan has never had a losing season, has twice won 13 games, and only once won fewer than 10. This for a franchise that had never before had two winning seasons in a row.

Ryan might be a hair behind Schaub in total passing stats, but his ability to win games makes him a city hero. You would be hard pressed to find even a single Falcons fan who would trade Ryan for Schaub.

Wasn't that Norwood's KO return?

I could be wrong, and I can't find any references to it, but wasn't that Jerious Norwood's big return that set up the sideline pass to Jenkins and then the field goal?

Ryan has more 4th quarter comebacks since he was drafted than both Mannings, precious Breesus and Roethlisberger. So uh, yeah, it is actually impossible to think that.

Also, Schaub just got his first postseason win last week, so don't start that **** either (TJ Yates was QB in the playoffs last year)

There are idiots everywhere, so it is certainly possible that somewhere there is someone who actually follows the Falcons every week, and yet would be willing to trade Ryan for Schaub. But what you said was "it is fairly likely that many ATL fans would rather have Schaub." I'm not sure you how you define "many" but I'm saying you would have to search really hard to find even one, so "many" is out of the question.

This tells me absolutely nothing. Not enough detail.

Was the 2nd part directed at me? I'm not real sure.

I think he was attempting humor.

Possibly changing the spelling to show his witty disapproval of that city's cultural values.

I fully expected Ryan to get the Falcons in position to attempt a FG. A friend of mine - who is a Saints fan - called me right after Lynch's TD put the Seahawks ahead. They were reviewing the play to see if he fumbled, and I told me friend, "I really hope they call that a TD."

"Don't you mean you hope they reverse it?"

"Nope. If its a TD, then Ryan will have 31 seconds and two timeouts, and that is plenty of time to win the game. If they let Seattle run another play then this game is probably over."

"Its over either way."

"You don't have any faith in the Matties Ice [meaning Matts Ryan and Bryant]"

Now, I'm not claiming I was confident of victory, or anything. I just knew having Ryan back there gave the Falcons a chance.

Of the Falcons fans I'm friends with, and take this for what it is because there aren't many here in Starkville that I'm aware of, they all like Schaub better.

To cite one, he blew it in his bowl game but still got drafted high, and has yet to do anything but beat up on bad teams and lose games he can't afford to do.

Do you know what circumstantial means?

What you said would need to be broken down into finer detail. For instance how many games has P. Manning or Brees made a game winning drive only to have the defense lose the game. Also number of opportunities for a game winning drive. If P. manning or Brees win all 4 quarters then their is no opportunity for said game winning drive.

Miguel Cabrera may not have had the most walk off hits this year. But would you want anyone else at bat with the game on the line?

Long time Dirty Bird fan here

Not so fast. Many of my Falcons friends would love to have Schaub back.

And I'll take Matt Ryan over Schaub any day. Not to discount Schaub, but Ryan has the talent and stature to be playing in this league for a long time at a high level and his overall performance from the time he has entered the league has proven that. Look, I know he has been underwhelming in the playoffs at 0-3 previously but look at who he lost to....the 3 Super Bowl Champions those years.

I would agree with most that ATL put on a hell of a choke job on yesterday, but the fact that they did get past it gives them relief and I think they will be loose against the 49ers. I know the dome will be rocking Sunday when San Fran comes in to town and I will be cheering them on, but I think San Fran is a bad matchup for them. So we'll see...

bad form - did you really have to resurrect this thread?

Why would they think any differently? He threw for nearly 400 yards against the best defense in the NFL. Yes he had a costly fumble, but the pick was on Roddy.

And for the record, I'm a Saints fan; but it is obvious that Ryan >>> Schaub
