At Connor, gonna be interesting. This came from Deepthroat who said we had no chance one month ago, I'm hearing the big weekend may have turned off some parents and others close to the situation. You can't have it both ways, big time Christian and big time party animal, what ya gonna do Hugh?

You mean parents don't like to be told their kid will be taken care of in a Christian way, and then the first weekend on campus they are shown the ultimate party by that same staff?

Looks like the videos, pictures, and Facebook posts didn't just upset MSU fans yesterday.

My guess on the weekend

Connor to Jones: Come on up to Oxford this weekend, and let's party.

Jones to Connor: Ok, if you'll come to Starkvegas with we me next weekend.

Ya just never know.

I even heard some ole miss fans chatting

About it at church today, don't think the rebel nation is on the same page regarding the librarian approach, has highly offended many fans.

As it should.

I'm not going to put my head in the sand about what happens on their visits and our visits -- nor am I going to be hypocritical about it. But the glaring difference is that WE don't have beat writers and recruiting writers there covering every waking moment until the wee hours of the morning -- for what was literally hundreds of thousands of eyeballs this weekend. The people AT the party aren't going to be offended about any of the shenanigans -- but the people reading on the Spirit obviously just might be.

The downside of preaching is that it puts you under a microscope -- and I've often wondered just how Freeze was going to juggle this situation when the time came...

The partying backfired this weekend. At least with one visitor.

An employee of mine's nephew was on an official visit with his parent(s). My employee just called with a work question. I asked him if he heard from his sister and nephew. Safe to say mom wasn't impressed with the bible quoting in their living room and the rowdiness on the square.

Please don't ask who the recruit is. It's not my place to give a name until he has made his college choice and notified the appropriate coaches.

However, it is not Chris Jones.

Great thread, btw! Much needed around here...

This source is definitely legit and has been mostly on the money with things in the past -- I always look forward to coach66's updates from him on here...

I know you'll call this making excuses, but I think this angle is way overplayed on this board. Freeze, nor any coach anywhere, can control the kids when they are not around them. They are college kids, they will drink and party and have a good time, no matter what the head coach preaches day in and day out. They set rules and expectations and if they don't meet certain expectations, their playing time suffers. Jamal Mosley and Jeff Scott were pretty good early examples in Spring and early Fall workouts of this.

The main difference in say, Freeze and Orgeron, is that Freeze tries to set a good example and create a positive environment for them as a whole. Orgeron couldn't have given two ***** about that, he actually stopped all of the FCA stuff because he thought it was a waste of time and resources. All he cared about was 'croot this guy and 'croot that guy and acting a damn fool.

Cue the "but Freeze is still a hypocrite" party line.

You're correct. But only because you would be saying the complete opposite if the tables were turned.

I disagree in that when you are dealing with high school recruits (who i'll wager half are 18, the rest 17), you still have all kinds of liability because they are still in high school. I did the whole band thing and the difference between high school and college is astonishing. In high school, administrators and teachers keep a tight leash on you, and rightly so... you aren't an adult yet. College, the only thing they cared about was whether or not you were on the bus when you are supposed to be there. The same thing should apply with recruiting. If I were a parent and my "still in high school" 17 year old was discovered out in the wee hours of the morning at a bar while on a recruiting visit after I was preached to about a "Christian approach" to recruiting, I'd be pretty pissed.

So it wasn't our new DB coach that changed the dialogue, it was ...

the fact he went on an official visit and partied like a christian rock star? I find that a little odd, but whatever.

Disagree and I don't give a flying pile of monkey **** if you think I am following a party line. I have and always will believe that leading by example, rather than telling everyone about it, will result in people thinking you are not a hypocrit. But, if you tell everyone how much your religion guides everything you do, then you open the door for me to nitpick when you bring a bunch of 17/18 year olds to town knowing what is about to take place. He may not have set it up, but he sure as 17 used it to his advantage.

Really? Making excuses? It was an orchestrated party...

by a band led by a christian drummajor named Freeze. All the drinks served were virgin just like the girls, right?

The Pony incident is still talked about by your fanbase. And I'm pretty positive that wasn't a move coaches endorsed. However, the library is an orchestrated event from the top down. It's ridiculous.

Bucky is 100% behind the Library. Nothing happens without his approval.

Per Yancy, Freeze allegedly met with Jones till after 2 AM on Friday night. Jones was seen arriving at the Library around 11:30.

That leaves a CLEAR picture that Freeze knows and supports what's going on -- since he was practically waiting on him at the door to "meet" after Chris had been out partying.

Yancy is a double-edged sword for them on some of this stuff... his OCD reporting(stalking) at the bar and afterwords paints a CLEAR picture on exactly what's going on...when alot of it would be better left unspoken...

Since he is so revered and his faith used as a sales tool he deserves every bit of criticism he gets!!

If he was so concerned, he could have gone up to the library and had everyone of them to leave. He could have protected them like he told their parents he would. He could have prevented these 17 year olds who are legally underage from being allowed in a bar. He knew it as did EVERYONE ELSE!

He could have texted the host and told them they had to leave. After it was public from Friday he surely could have prevented more of this on Saturday.

Walk the walk that you talk about!!!

Like the other poster said, you tell everyone the standard you live by then you are held to that. Otherwise your full of crap and just a fake. So which is it?

Snake Oil salesman!!!

Reports said Jones did not go out Friday night after he arrived in town, and instead met with Freeze and staff for 2 hours.

He was seen on the Square Saturday night. But come up with whatever story makes you feel better.

My story says Jones will still sign with MSU, even after Ole Miss sold their souls and daughters to flip him. That would, typically, make me feel better, but I honestly don't think it's that big a deal to beat Ole Miss for a recruit. Happens all the time.

So, you are saying that he wasn't in the Library Friday night? And was instead meeting with Freeze and staff? Did this meeting take place IN the Library or otherwise on the Square? Because that's just further confirmation of what has been stated -- that the recruiting actions downtown are known and encouraged by your staff. Your own fans have 50 tweets confirming his presence in The Library -- after all, that is obviously where all your other recruits were.

You keep twisting the story to make yourself feel better though**

Who cares? You are the most gullible poster here. None of these stupid details matter. You've proven you don't know anything anyway.

Here is what matters:

1) Chris Jones visited Ole Miss.

2) Chris Jones is still committed to MSU.

Now stop whining and empowering the trolls.

I'm sick of these stupid pissing matches with you stalking my every post on the board -- and derailing many threads in the process. I get it -- you've got a hard on for me. But I won't be arguing with your dumb *** anymore -- because from a distance, people might not be able to tell who the idiot is.

The only part of your entire post that was semi-correct or otherwise coherent is that yes, Chris Jones is still committed to MSU, and I fully expect him to stay that way.

The tweets that he was on the Square are from Saturday. The reports I read said he showed up sometime just before midnight Friday because of a basketball game and met with the coaches. Those reports also said the players wanted to take him out Saturday since he missed Friday. I don't know 100% because I wasn't there, but the version you are stating is incorrect according to those whose job is to cover Ole Miss sports, for multiple sites.
