I think I saw that in the West Point Wal-Mart last time I came through. Seriously, could we throw more crap at it. Meanwhile, Alabama is forced to wear the same old uniforms they wore in last year's NC game...and the NC game before that.

Yea, you are exactly right. When someone from California, or Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania turns on the tube to ESPN tomorrow night, the first thing they are going to say is "Why is Mississippi State doing away with their traditional maroon and white uniforms?"

I just find it hilarious that our fans ***** and moan about the national media and others confusing MSU and Ole Miss and THEN turn around and ***** because we are doing away with tradition. Really?

Those ugly uniforms that Maryland wore last year, did you talk about them? Hell yes. Do you ever think about Maryland football otherwise? Multiply that by 1,000 and you have the national perception of MSU. If we do ANYTHING to grab a little attention, it's a good thing.

Exactly. Bama has worn the same unis for 60 years

They have an identity. That identity is winning national championships wearing crimson jerseys and white pants. We change our uniforms and logo and helmet color every couple of years anyway. We have no identity. That's why the national media gets us confused with not only Ole Miss but Michigan State. We are anonymous in the national media's eyes. This is an attempt to get us noticed on national TV. I like it. The gold color goes with the "Battle for the Golden Egg" theme. Lots of teams wear alternate uniforms. It's not an uncommon theme. A lot of y'all act like we are the only team in the country other than Oregon that pulls out alternate unis. Alternate unis are something that gets us noticed and the players love it. That's it's purpose.

I've heard that there is a Yeti cooler sticker on the back.

Not my style but I'm much more concerned about the performance of players wearing them.

Everything about that uniform except for the helmet had been known since August. I don't get the freak out now.

But I'm with Hump4Hoops. I like them for the most part.

Our fan base is full of idiots

I'm sure it'll look the same way on our players as it does lying halfway wrinkled on a floor with a bad carpet. We're doomed. Holy **** people get over yourself. What can't y'all understand about RECRUITS (the life blood of ANY program) and our players love special unis and will love these? I don't expect y'all to think that's important at this point, however. It's a reward to players and it appeals to recruits. That's the only reason these are worn.

Somewhat disagree. We may have plenty of idiots, but

I can tell that I don't like this:

this

or this

on the dog, on the ground or gold plated, a turd is a turd. I don't need a better view to tell that I don't like it. I'm not, however, arguing fashion taste as I am no expert on what I'm supposed to like. I don't find the Oregon Nike clown suits any more likeable...

Not busting your chops, but how do you know that players love special uniforms?

While at State, I spoke to many players and not one mentioned their love for special uniforms. If I was a player, I would prefer only two uniforms, home & travel. I would want the continuity of the same uniform and creating an identity. It's called tradition.

look, i get it. new = exciting and a draw for recruits, but our ugly uniforms dont seem to be making a noticeable impact on recruiting. we will most likely finish in the bottom 4 in recruiting again. people arent against new uniforms, people are against tacky, gimmicky ******** uniforms. new doesnt have to be ugly. why cant we give the players uniforms that dont look like ****?

we are not shitting on the idea of new uniforms....we are shitting on the idea of ugly uniforms. they dont have to be mutually exclusive. im a proponent of new unis because it gets the players excited and like you say, rewards them, but it doesnt mean we shouldnt have an opinion about how we appear to the nation. if we had uniforms that made those wearing them look good, think about the impact that would have to recruiting. looking as good as possible will attract more recruits than anything less than that. people are tired of the gimmicky stuff, and i dont blame them. its about winning football games not a contest to see who can get away with wearing the most ocularly offensive garb that we can throw together. as a side note, i dont see the player excitement about these special uniforms. compare the dan mullen year 1 era uniform reveal to the eb and snowbowl uniform reveals:

vs this:

look at how wooden and uninspired russell and banks look. zero energy, zero excitement, almost as if they were frozen in time with no expression on their lifeless faces. these two dont look excited to be wearing the new stuff.**

We look like Minnesota but I love the helmet. And we don't have the hideous Mississippi State banner on the front so that's a HUGE positive! Did I mention how sweet that helmet is? That is a lot of gold

Other than the helmet, are they any different than the uni's worn two years ago in the Egg Bowl that everyone loved?

The reasons for wanting a consistent identity have little to do with what people in far flung states think and more to do with having some school pride and tradition. I personally love MSU. I'd love to see us wear our school colors and not change our unis non-stop. Fight song. School colors. Mascot. etc. I make very little distinction in why one can change willy nilly and the others should remain untouched and vice versa. Just be who you are and be proud of it. That's one key reason that I get tickled at Ole Miss' mythical superior football tradition and their subsequent assertion that other school's fans are envious. I in no way, shape or form have ever wanted to be anything like Ole Miss. End of story. I could've gone to school there, but I didn't want to. Because I didn't want to be like them, associated with the school, or that ghey Hotty Toddy cheer, or some stupid Delta Gamma sorority pose that they decided to rename the "Landshark"...

These will look good under the lights. The players might all want to wear visors though because the reflection from the lights off the helmets is going to be blinding.

I like them. A lot. But then again, I'm not retired and drawing social security. Who gives a 17 what we wear. If the players have fun with it, keep it going.
