Hey look Virginia has fans that actually care about baseball!

I can't wait until their fans see Holder's mullet.

Because I'm a terrible person and didn't know better I checked out their forum and they're taking every sarcastic statement we say seriously and throwing out every "Mississippians are dumb" stereotypical insult.

Sports fans who use "not classy" and "stupid" deserve to have their fandom stripped. 1) Not that I give a damn about classy, but our fans are well documented as the best fans in all of baseball. Mercer's coach mentioned how their players spend the pitching changes talking to fans in the outfield and getting food from them and there were two pictures that surfaced 2 weeks ago of USC's outfielders eating with some of the fans in left field. My friends from high school who went to USA who stayed with me this weekend mentioned 100 times how nice people were to them for just wearing USA shirts. 2) They're on their forum bragging about Faulkner and Grisham "seeing the light and coming to UVA"... so we're obviously not stupid if they're bragging about stealing two of our most famous authors. 3) Come up with something original that insults the team, not the fan. That's bush league.
Man, you have been point on, today. Alllllllll of this ^^^.

North?? When did Virginia move to the north?
Virginia shouldn't be consider either. Depending on where you are in the state you meet a bunch of rednecks or a bunch of uppity types. UVA seems to me like the uppity types because they're making fun of us for having Mossy Oak as a sponsor. Would rather make fun than look and see that the founder actually went to MSU and it's a real estate company more so than a camo company worth a good amount of money.

We'll never win. Michigan and Northwestern both called us stupid. When we beat Michigan we were still stupid and only won because all we care about is athletics and when NU kicked the crap out of us we were stupid and pathetic. If you didn't want to defend your intelligence you shouldn't have become a State fan. Jokes on them though because it's ignorant as all hell to insult the intelligence of someone for being from Mississippi.

My little sister is in 10th grade and moved to Long Island, NY to attend one of the top 20 high schools in the country and their counselor wanted to make her take 9th grade and remedial 10th grade classes despite being #1 in her class in Mississippi. Her response was, "Yeah, but that's in Mississippi." My mother was insulted so they agreed on her taking a bunch of the practice New York state tests to "qualify" for 10th grade and AP/IB classes and she made 100's on all of them. She hasn't made below a 98 on a report card since and is now #1 in her class there. Counselor called my mother to apologize 3 months later. She's being recruited by Harvard's sailing team.

I've gotten to the point where I tell people up there that I'm from New Orleans because somehow being from one of the most corrupt cities in the US with one of the worst public school systems is higher on the pecking order than being from Gulfport, MS, I'm guessing because people have actually been there and liked it... for a lot of the same qualities Mississippi has (friendly people, food, great music).

Fine, I'll go there.

May your smoking jacket be ill-tailored to suit your most prodigious girth. May your ascot be from a disreputable house of fashion. May your port be non-vintage, your brandy be domestic in origin, and all of your daughters' suitors be only the basest Hibernian.

There. That ought to fog up some monocles once their man-servants log them on for some post fox-hunt world wide webbery.

the "redneck" and "hillbillies" in Virginia arent UVA fans

Most people in the state, south of the filthy melting pot that is the DC sprawl, would be more likely to support the Hokies. Its a larger school, and has way more students from the state of Virginia than UVA does. Ever since the mid 90s', Tech has been using the wahoos as their own personal hand puppets on the athletic fields, at least the ones that matter (soccer is a chick sport in the south)

I've never been clear on why, in a world where everyone is constantly walking on eggshells not to offend anyone, it's perfectly acceptable to say the most ignorant and offensive things about Southerners. It's one of the strangest things about America today. People can go on 20 minute rants about how "inbred" and "ignorant" all Southerners are and it's considered hilarious, but if you make one joke or statement about where someone else is from, it's "crossing the line." I wonder if these people realize they're the ignorant ones?

By the way, if these idiots take anything that DS is saying about the record v. super regional teams seriously, then they are far dumber than they would like people to believe.

atheletic fields? sports? as in plural? who are you trying to fool?

yes, your football team has dominated us since Vick. no question, and it hurts. bad. but UVA's owned VT in every other sport except wrestling, and even that one's virtually dead even right now.

I for one always thought VT was better than UVA at nearly everything.
+1

Not just because I am at this point trying to piss of UVA fans, but I always think of VT being an upper echelon school as far as athletics. I'm not sure why, but I guess that it just goes back to the point that football is king.

The ACC has one National Championship in baseball. In 1955. By Wake Forest. The SEC has 9. Since 1990. The SEC destroys the ACC in baseball.

Well, I guess that's why Mississippi is still ... Mississippi. Same goes for most of Alabama, except for the metro Huntsville area.

The Civil War was over about 150 years ago .... But I think about 95% of Virginians would be insulted if you called them "northerners".

Bingo. I worked in NYC last summer and the assistant manager was African-American. Raised in the Bronx and lived on the upper west side. Never left NYC. On my last day she said how when she saw where a guy with information from Mississippi was hired she wasn't happy, but that I had changed her mind about people "from down south"... but she still gave me **** about how I wore shoes. When I went to boarding school after Katrina with some UVA-type elitist pricks no one could get over how I wore shoes and had nice teeth. How stupid are people? I say the word stupid because how can people with such a great education and just general smarts be naive/stupid/ignorant enough to think that JUST people in Mississippi don't wear shoes?

It's got to be somewhat because no one from the deep south ever moves out of the south except "exceptions" like academics and celebrities. I live in New York but I've been applying to jobs like crazy to get down to Asheville, NC or NOLA. But come on, no one wears shoes?

UVA fans can lick my *** crack. I know Ole Miss fans I'd rather discuss sports with.

Border state. Not really northern or southern.

I've just always considered them an east cost state and left it at that. I group them with North Carolina and south Florida in that manner.

I've always had a hard time understanding

they "they don't wear shoes" or "don't have the internet" crowd.

That would be like me going to New Jersey and acting horribly shocked at every person that doesn't own a tanning booth and dress like a retard.

I'm picking up what you are putting down, but I have long come to the decision, that I'll tell people I'm from Gulfport, and if they don't like it, they can go 17 themselves. Hell I had to come to that decision when I came to state #coasttrash

http://www.thesabre.com/message_board/baseball/2013/June/3/298498.php

"I think UVa is a more battle tested team through the season.

Message:
Some interesting stats

17-10 vs. lefties
12-13 vs top 25
2-8 vs. top 10
16-15 when scoring 5 runs or less and UVA has allowed 5 runs or
more just 19 times in 60 games." (Lol at these because he points out that we've lost a bunch to top teams, and fails to realize that no one else in the country has played that many top teams)

"Hopefully our bats will be loose, our pitching confident, our
gloves constant, and our fans boisterous. 'Hoos in 3." ( "boisterous fans" ha)

Sports in the north just ain't the same, is it?

First of all, thank you to your administrators for making it so easy to join in on this board. The process is ridiculous with some boards.
I had to comment on "UVA actually has some fans that care about baseball". For those of you that make it to Charlottesville, you will see that while we may not seat, or have 10k fans in or near our stadium, the 5k or so we have are into the game on every pitch. One thing I found amusing about watching a game from Starksville was the number of "fans" you have down in left field and around the outfield who really didn't seem to care about baseball at all. Instead they were more there to party. I was really amazed to see grills being lit and smoke coming out onto the field DURING the game. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to tailgate and I'd love to visit that crowd, but when the game starts, it is what matters. You won't have to worry about smoke in your outfielders eyes or such at Charlottesville. Wish you guys the best and feel the ACC is as strong or even a stronger conference than the SEC, in baseball, and you will see that this weekend. We fared VERY well against the "best" in our conference this year and, in my humble opinion, deserved better than the 6 national seed we got. That though will be determined on the field this coming weekend and hopefully in Omaha. We're young and ahead of schedule for being where we are, but based on what I've seen this year... I wont count this team out.

You're absolutely right. Having 14K (not 10k mind you) is such a bummer. It really does suck. In fact 5k sounds like a much better crowd***

Also, go 17 yourself

Starksville? Even I know better. How are things in Charlotteville?

The left field lounge is famous, or infamous, depending on your viewpoint. Personally, I think that some of the seemingly thrown-together structures look dangerous. Maybe they have more forethought in the design than is obvious. But if you ever make it to Starksvile, I'm sure you will be welcomed in the LFL and I understand there's some pretty good food there. And yes, they pay attention to the game.

Since you're new to the board, you'll find that it's rather ... loose. Almost anything is allowed. Things not allowed are in the rules, but the more important ones are don't say f*** ... it's 17. And no comments referring to race. It's just too controversial and gets peoples' hackles up to the point of being out of control. And try to keep political discussions to a minimum. Otherwise you can say just about anything ... including insulting others ... but it's all in fun. Don't really mean the insults and you're OK. It takes a while for a person like me to get accustomed to such things but I'm getting there. I'm old and set in my ways, plus engineers aren't known for their social skills.

I'm "and" idiot and I didn't see smoke in your outfield, which the guys covering the game commented on also. Again, I LOVE to tailgate and I'm all for the great crowds you have. (I even stand corrected if it's 14K versus 10K) I was just saying that you all are discounting: 1) ACC baseball as inferior 2) Our number of fans I welcomed you to see that both are worthy of better comments. Our fan numbers are all our stadium holds, which has grown over the past few years and you will be amazed at how much we are into the game and how much noise we can make. I think you'll also be surprised to see that ACC baseball isn't an "inferior" product.

Uh, there's 2k-3k at the most out there. You want me to do the math or can you

figure that out? AND had the weather cooperated this weekend, we'd had WAY over 11K at our games. Anyway, we obviously have NO chance against such a powerhouse program as UVA and their record breaking 5K crowds that I'm gonna give Cohen a call and tell him to just save the State's money.

And do you think SEC baseball is inferior? The SEC has won nat. championships

since 1955. Anyway, I don't think anyone here is discounting your program. You've been good. Actually, you've been very good but those UVA fans that think we will roll over and die or this is going to be a cake walk better think again. Might want to check out the stats on our bullpen. It's the best I've ever seen at MSU and we've had some very, very good teams over the years, including 8 CWS appearances.

Wow... sensitive bunch. OK, All I was saying is don't discount the ACC product and this UVA team. I have the utmost respect for the SEC in all sports and I have done enough research to truly respect your pitching. I even watched most of your regional thanks to ESPN3. You can call me a 17face or whatever you wish, I've been a UVA fan long enough to take all form of insult. Especially since I am a diehard football fan and we've actually earned a lot of it.

Sorry, I don't own an ascot, wear tee shirts to most games and really don't give a 17 if you don't like my comments. I saw what I saw, on TV mind you, and heard the announcers comments. My first thought was "wow, I'd love to party with that bunch sometime" and also "wow, smoke out on the field during the game". It is what it is. Best of luck to you this weekend. GO HOOS!! Dude, this shows your complete lack of knowledge when it comes to REAL baseball.

First off, I think Virginia will win the series as they should. But, your remark about "smoke in the outfielder's eyes" is as ***** as that bowtie you removed from your last trip to a UVA game. We are well known as the most knowledgeable baseball fan base in the country, so you may want to be careful with what you think you "know" over here. Your smart *** isn't coming to a MSU board and flexing your knowledge.

I will put up with a lot of Southern Redneck garbage, but check your little punk *** when talking about the crowds at Dudy Noble. You guys would kill for that experience at Charlottesvilles, and you know it. 10k plus fans that don't have to sit on their hands and wear a blazer, yet STILL are more into the game than your 4k. What a dumbass post from someone that obviously knows nothing about that of which you speak. You will likely win the series, but don't even remotely try to compare your 4-5k with the experience of Dudy Noble....that just makes you look extremely foolish.

I am trying to like you guys, but your snarkiness reminds me of a bunch of pussies that would talk **** but disappear when a fight actually broke out. Me thinks Colin Cowherd was 100% dead on about your fan base and athletics.

Carry on.

Really?! 17'n really?! You corrected "and" but failed to see the "your?" I can excuse you for not realizing the intentional typos in his reply (it's a long running six pack thing) but to pick out only the obvious one and not the other derails your attempt at one-up-manship and invalidates your lofty approach of looking down your nose at the Carnegie Hall of College Baseball. I know you usually have your man-servants do the dirty grilling for you so your linen gloves don't become stained, but your ignorance is glaringly apparent and your ascot cannot hide it.

Damnation, I have no ill will toward UVA but you Hoobastanks are starting to get on my last 17'n nerve.

Notice? yes, smart enough to correct another person's grammar? ....nope I'm a UVA fan and have been for 45+ years... but I didn't graduate from there and have none of the elitist tendencies.
