Pretty lame take if you ask me.Sha out sick all week and team almost beats UConn...![]()
Not only that, but what we saw was a Holloway team playing amazing defense, k8bda oyr trademark. I wonder if the guy who doesnt think we play hard enough was OK with effort today.Pretty lame take if you ask me.
I think bigger picture that’s correct.Hey look, once again under Sha we’ve had a team this close to where we want to be. The games against Connecticut and St. John’s were there to be had - all 3. We couldn’t close.
Where was this level all year. We watched 2 ncaa tournament level teams today but unless of a miracle only one is going. Not only that, but what we saw was a Holloway team playing amazing defense, k8bda oyr trademark. I wonder if the guy who doesnt think we play hard enough was OK with effort today.
It was partly the schedule. Uconn beat Stj by 33, letdown was incoming, senior day, hall off for a week

Absolutely, everyone looked fresh, we shot much better, we got most 50 50 balls and were mentally on point all game. Fisher, Statin McCray and Williams showed veteran maturity in a tough environment. We needed Parker to win that game and it is ironic we get hit with a flu bug during our week off.The week off clearly helped. It's not a coincidence we shot well after that IMO.
Kim English went 2-0 vs DePaul and also beat Butler at home. Sha lost those 3 games, forcing a must win @ UConn. Kim English has also won 3 games in a row, has a favorable final 2 games, and could possibly end up right where we do, at 9-11 in the Big East. How many teams have closed the last 2 months against UConn or St. John's?
13.5 dog yesterday and UConn was life and death and needed a ridiculous foul calls disparity to hold on. Including, not calling a foul when UConn was trying to foul.
The offense was more than competent yesterday. It generally is when we hit a reasonable percentage of our shots. UConn held Pitino to 2 made FG in the 2nd half the game before.
Despite the Clark mistakes yesterday, he still had a ton of assists and we were down 1 with the ball with 30 seconds to go. And this was after we played a shutdown defensive possession in which UConn was likely not going to hit the rim and was bailed out by a foul call with a second on the shot clock.
Our offensive stats were very good with a key guard out in Parker. Parker also is a key on defense against a team like UConn.
This team can win multiple games in BET.
To answer my own question, Providence actually closed a game against St John's at MSG. Let's bring in Kim English.
Sounds great, I'm all for it. Try to avoid a disaster in Cincinnati on Tuesday, and play a bit with house money Friday night against St. John's. If they can get to 21-10, 11-9 with a puncher's chance at the BET it'll bring some excitement. How many teams have closed the last 2 months against UConn or St. John's?

And now they play 3 games in 7 daysUConn is playing for a 1 seed.
Ironically, we have a week off and Holloway can't even be at practice most of week due to flu
Parker tweaked something early in week and then is unavailable due to flu.
Parker plays, it is a completely different rotation.
Our week off resulted in fresh legs and Fisher having one of his best games offensively, but was compromised by the above.
We need that one game changing star that’s missing. Of course they don’t come cheap. Until we start getting them this is the top.Hey look, once again under Sha we’ve had a team this close to where we want to be. Yes let's bring in Kim English because he is going to lose his job in a few weeks. Good idea.Kim English went 2-0 vs DePaul and also beat Butler at home. He took the right approach for our budget this year: Experienced players from lesser conferences (Clark, Payne, Fisher, Staton-McCray, etc.). The year before he tried to swing with former heralded HS recruits and back-ups for bad teams with a boom-or-bust roster. Obviously improved budget help.We need that one game changing star that’s missing. Of course they don’t come cheap. Until we start getting them this is the top.
a weekoff may have helped. and good luck.0-18 from 3 home vs horrible Gtown with Sha coaching them all week. He’s out sick all week and they learn how to shoot. Adds up to me
9-18 from 3 at #6UConn
Yes … we need more luck!a weekoff may have helped. and good luck.
Did I say that? Not even close.Yes let's bring in Kim English because he is going to lose his job in a few weeks. Good idea.
Thats asking a lot, eps since we can very well be Dogs for all our remaining games. As am aside, All this Kim English talk is funny, because guess what- we’re most likely going to play them in the 4/5 game at MSG. Thats the last team I want to play out of all the scrum in the middle of conference. They will have the crowd, and best FT shooting team in league (we all know foul count will be high on neutral court tourny games betwn physical teams).Sounds great, I'm all for it. They're #56 in the NET, 2-4 Q1, 5-3 Q2. Really need to sweep this week, win the 1st BET game, and get to the BET semis to have any hope and then have some politics about getting a 4th BE team in the field should they do that. Tall tasks.
Don’t think Uconn can get a 1 seed. Maybe at 2 or a 3 for sure. But they definitely want to win the BE regular season after having that taken from them last season.UConn is playing for a 1 seed.

They can be co champs but would be the tournament 2 seed at msgDon’t think Uconn can get a 1 seed. Maybe at 2 or a 3 for sure. But they definitely want to win the BE regular season after having that taken from them last season.
Pretty accurate summary imho.He took the right approach for our budget this year: Experienced players from lesser conferences (Clark, Payne, Fisher, Staton-McCray, etc.). The year before he tried to swing with former heralded HS recruits and back-ups for bad teams with a boom-or-bust roster. Obviously improved budget help.
But he chose guys that fit the same profile: What he thought would be physical players and good defenders who were not shooters. The 3PT shooting numbers were all over this board last offseason. There are plenty of shooters in the talent pool that he's drawing from. This was a choice.
And hey, he got what he designed in both years: Boom or bust went bust last year, then this year was clearly improved with elite defense, terrible offense, which leads to .500. I'm hoping he realizes we can't be so one-sided in the future and not so stubborn. We need a couple of legit outside shot makers, even if we're only taking 15 or less per game.
So you honestly think Sha should be fired after this season?Did I say that? Not even close.
Both should be looking for jobs after this season, but only Providence will do what needs to be done.
I was referring to the at large field overall. Which is what I thought the other poster was. They can be co champs but would be the tournament 2 seed at msg

I was. But you made the point. Either way, UConn was focused on winning that game yesterday.I was referring to the at large field overall. Which is what I thought the other poster was.
Of course they were. They desperately want to win the BE regular season and obviously have the incentive for the best NCAA seed possible.I was. But you made the point. Either way, UConn was focused on winning that game yesterday.
Due to monetary reasons, I do not. I don’t think he should have been awarded with an extension after an NIT championship. We’re stuck with him until his contract runs out or if he decides to leave on his own. Staring down the barrel of 4 straight danceless seasons. He has done a poor job here to date.So you honestly think Sha should be fired after this season?
I agree with basically all of your post with one caveat - and this is where there is a big gulf between how so many of us who like Sha see things.Your post ignores the reality of what is needed to put together top teams in the NIL era. Sha has been hamstrung by a lower tier NIL budget which is indisputable. Who could’ve done better with our subpar NIL budget? The teams ahead of us in the Big East standings have all spent millions more than we have for their current rosters. Most informed posters would in fact argue that he has exceeded expectations given the schools limited resources to purchase higher level players.
I have definite issues with a couple of things about him, most importantly his undervaluing of offense and three point shooting. But --respectfully--two 20 win seasons out of four (assuming we win at least one more this year) and an NIT championship in four years is --objectively--not a poor job.Due to monetary reasons, I do not. I'm still a Sha guy but to keep it balanced,I have definite issues with a couple of things about him, most importantly his undervaluing of offense and three point shooting.
