I wasn't that impressed with Cologne, probably because it's so modern, given how it was nearly leveled in WWII and I had just come from Heidelberg, which was largely spared Allied bombing during the war, so it retained its baroque charm of narrow cobblestone streets and beautiful old houses. I also had a fantastic meal at a 400 year old German restaurant, Schnookeloch, where they appear to have perfected wienerschnitzel and potatoes (and beer). But to be fair I only spent about 8 hours exploring each city, so my impressions were limited.
In Belgium both Brussels and Antwerp are similar as both cities are mostly reconstructed with very little historic areas. They are similar to Philadelphia where the historic district is just a small portion of the massive city. Unlike Philly, which is extremely cycling friendly, those two are a disaster. I have not returned to either city since. As far as Cologne the appeal is if you like like Kolsch beers. In Germany Kolsch style lagers are only made in Cologne.

I hear that Cologne is beautiful which is nice but I'm mostly going for the Kolsch lol. Hamburg is famous for it's WeiBbier (wheat) and Pilsners. Hamburg also has several new breweries make award winning craft beers including IPAs
None of Germany's major cities is especially beautiful, or interesting, except Berlin, which has quite a few interesting things to do. If you want to see beautiful in Germany you get into the countryside in the south and/or go to small, historic towns, like Trier, Cochem or Rothenburg ob der Tauber, or drive up the Mosel River valley. You can drink the same beer there in nicer surroundings.

Fraternity and Sorority contests ALWAYS work. Most there, most spirited, most colorful..all the above
That would be the wholesome approach. And it might work a little.

But I think offering free hookers and blow would be a much more successful approach. And maybe a sheep petting "zoo".

I'll pass on the Red Light district however. It's a cycling trip.
You can take an hours-long cycling trip in the red light district and never even leave your hotel room. Just gotta mix the right blend of LSD, Peyote, and turpentine huffing.

I'm not saying it's a good idea. But your trip would cycle a lot.

Have a couple of lotteries for students in their seats before kickoff. A couple of $500 prizes should do it.

Nothing else will work. Rutgers is Rutgers.

I do not have the answers but this is a game where our athletic department needs to go all out on distributing tickets to students and to have them in place before kickoff. Need to figure out a way to give them an event space where they can congregate before the game NOT in New Brunswick. Been a long time since the Alley and someone has to come up with a new pitch

Any suggestions
It has nothing whatsoever to do with "distributing" tickets. They WILL BE THERE and pack it in....my guess is upwards of 12K of them....it's ALL about getting those 12K in by opening kick (or close). That I AGREE WITH YOU WHOLEHEARTEDLY and already tweeted it to the athletic department yesterday (YOU HAVE 2 WEEKS TO FIGURE IT OUT, AD!!!).

My suggestion:

Offer a free semester to a student at 11:45 (SIA suggested).

No chance the section is full by kickoff .
Possibly by mid-2nd quarter if the game is still close

Friday night parties are of utmost importance over getting up early to attend a football game at RU and most schools

Not worried about students attendance. They have showed out and have mostly been in their seats by kickoff. Only real outlier was Wagner. It's the rest of the fans, predominantly the west side of the stadium downstairs between the 30's that have been late arriving.
spot-on

Wrong. It was packed a couple of times this year by about the 10-minute mark of the 1st quarter.

I'm going to Amsterdam for the first time this coming spring. I'll pass on the Red Light district however. It's a cycling trip.
What cycling trip? Where do you find these trips?

Got into cycling big time this year. Never owned a bike before. Did a 75 mile ride a few ago at the Twin Lights Ride down the jersey shore.

Which games?

Not NW until the 2nd quarter but granted that was LDWE

Obviously Mish St was empty cuz of rain

I head Wagner was half empty
Well that would leave Temple and VT (which are the 2 that WERE full by 10 or so left in Q1). Which is A LOT better than many schools around the nation can pull off in the student section (see: Wisconsin, as just one example).

Northwestern was 80% full at kickoff. Mainly due to freshmen orientation. And was packed by 1/2 through first quarter with many students standing on the walkway below the scoreboard.

This is a brilliant concept! We should absolutely designate one of the tailgate lots as the RU red-light district. Spice up the tailgate scene a little.

Sure, the fans who hang out in the red light district will mostly never make it into the game. But we'll become internationally famous for our tailgating environment.

I recall late 80's, homecoming I think, one of the frats had a rather large tent set up with strippers from the Angel Inn performing.. Other than the clothes, the 80's were a great time!

Been going to Belgium for the Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders) and the Paris Roubaix the following weekend. Amateurs can ride the same distance as the pros the day before or a shorter version of each. This will my 5th Ronde and 3rd Paris Roubaix. The rest of the time is different cities with different friends, all but one is in the beer industry over there. Most of us will ride together on the morning of the Ronde.
Keep spinning the legs!

THe Wisconsin sudent section was 95% full for the game by the start of the second quarter. Probably 2/3 full at kickoff.

Ohio fans will be in their seats 30 min before the game wondering where all of the Rutgers fans are. They’re in the lots drinking as much as possible so they won’t have to buy a beer in the stadium.
THIS drives me crazy!!! Forget about the students, it's most adults who always start to breakdown their tailgates way late and come in during the first Q. It's ridiculous. fair weather fans

I love how people complain about how other people enjoy their own free time. It's none of your GD business. Do what you want to do and don't tell people what they have do!!

I was at the Wisconsin game. The student section was nowhere near 2/3 at kickoff. Probably 50% at best. Granted it’s a 11am kickoff for them which is rough.
They force the students into sections as they come in. 95% full by early second quarter. Sustained 95% for maybe a quarter and by mid third qtr it was back down to 2/3 at best

Isn’t it a much larger student section than RU?

I’m guilty. It’s being a NJ Rutgers fan. As a RU fan, it’s been a while the product on the field is worth watching. Being from NJ, I feel privileged that I should have to wait in lines 😀
