Netflix has canceled production on its original scripted series “If Only” after the current conservative Turkish government demanded the streamer remove a gay character.

THR reports that Netflix announced the eight-part romantic drama in February with Ay Yapim producing and film star Ozge Ozpirincci starring. However authorities, citing the existence of a gay supporting character in the script, refused to issue a filming license unless the character was removed.

Instead of censoring the script, Netflix opted to pull the series altogether.

That got me thinking -- what's the general consensus on homosexuality in your area? What are your personal beliefs on the matter, if you don't mind sharing them with us?

I was raised to believe that homosexuality is a sin, but also that we shouldn't judge people and to just live and let live.

I no longer believe that it's a sin, but rather merely a normal varying combination of genetics and environment, the same things that influence heterosexuality. And I still believe in "live and let live". :)

My stopping point is somewhere within the trans movement. If you're a girl that wants to be a guy, that's fine. But science says otherwise, and as a guy, a conversation about "what it's like to be a guy" will have limitations. Because at some point, your reference runs out. You didn't grow up with a penis, and I didn't grow up with boobs. At the end of the day, we aren't the same. Doesn't mean you shouldn't have the same rights as me as a human.. but it does mean being born as a female creates some nuances and differences that you just need to accept, no matter how much you want to be a man.

2020 and there are some that still want to talk about this...

That's because it still warrants discussion, now probably more than ever.

Somerset recently held an LGBT pride event. Twenty years ago, the notion of an LGBT pride event in Somerset would've been unthinkable. Today, not only is it acceptable, but the number of protestors were fewer and much less vocal and/or hateful than a lot expected.

Contrast that to Turkey, who just bullied Netflix into canning a show over a gay character. Or in the Middle East (roughly 20% of the world's population), where homosexuality's still illegal in 10 of the area's 18 countries (it's punishable by death in seven of 'em).

I don't have a problem with homosexuality...it's the bisexuals that I can't stand. They're just greedy bastards. I don't ask a lot of my fellow humans, but climb down off the fence and pick a hole.*

This shouldn't be an issue. Everyone should be free to their own beliefs. The left and the right are both generally wrong on this issue. The solution is pretty easy.

Step 1: The government should replace "marriage" with civil union on all documents etc.

Step 2: Same sex civil unions should be eligible for all of the same benefits as opposite sex civil unions.

That's it, 2 steps. This would guarantee equal rights without stepping on religious freedom.

Seems like a lot of preachers and clergy who are extremely outspoken on the matter (moreso than other issues)—eventually get caught uphill gardening.

Let people live. It’s none of anyone’s business what two consenting adults do.
And yet you support people beating up people just because they say all lives matter or support Trump. Shouldn't they be able to live too?

Gay marriage probably has some positive effect on gay monogamy, and, as such, it can help slow the spread of AIDS- and, who knows, it could even slow the spread of the coronavirus because bathhouses and meat market bars are not known for social distancing. Therefore, it's a good thing. I am also pro-lesbian, particularly when they are pretty. Compared to other right wingers, I am quite enlightened on this subject.

Its nasty, its wrong, but it doesnt affect me so live and let live. The whole calling guys a girl and all that **** are when I speak up. Who and what you bang is your business. Trying to strongarm me to get on board and enable your perverted arse is a different story.
I don't agree with it but whatever you want to do is up to you. However, never understood what any guy would see in another old boy's butt.
