How does it help us in the least that Auburn is going to play for the national championship? I have friends who swear that it helps us in some way but I honestly dont see it. I mean 7 straight bcs champions and we still havent finished above 4th in the west. I know more money for the conference as a whole and bragging rights as the best conference but them being in the championship isnt going to help us in any way on the field.

Honest answer? It doesn't. We recruit vs Auburn, LSU, and Alabama, at least for local recruits in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. They are winning national championships, we aren't. It's an easy sale to high school kids.

We're going to get shitloads of money from the SEC because there's a huge TV contract, not because we send someone to the national title game instead of a second BCS bowl.

Whether Auburn wins or not, the SEC is still hands down the best conference in football top to bottom. The conference will prove that by doing very well in bowls and finishing with more teams in the top 10 and top 25 than any other conference.

I just hate seeing people beat their chests over the sec and the fact is that it doesnt help us at all. If you are the one in the championship game it helps. I use the baseball example from this year. Do you think alabama and auburn baseball fans(assuming they have baseball fans) are excited because we played for the national championship? The answer is no because it doesnt help them get there at all. I hope florida state wins by 50. #hailstate

In reality, it only helps when recruiting outside of the region (IE Laquon Treadwell) and it expands the SEC Recruiting footprint. It in no way benefits either of us in the state unless we are the only SEC offer for a player. Then you have to question the caliber of the player.

It doesn't. Back before the SEC was winning the National Title every year, we had no problem finishing in the Top 3 of the SEC West. We were probably beating Alabama about 35% of the time during a 10 year stretch. Now we never beat them. And our SEC West ceiling, even if everything goes our way, now appears to be about 4th. Granted, our team might be a little better and our facilities nicer, but if your goal is competing in the SEC, this in no way helps us.

Don't all these arguments rest on the notion that the SEC will always get two teams in the BCS? Seems like that is not automatic, but I honestly don't know.
