Since the 98/99 seasons(Stans Tenure):
79.3% of all Sweet16 teams have been BCS conference schools
20.7% have been made by non-bcs/mid-major teams
Of this 20.7%, Gonzaga, Memphis, Butler, and Xavier make up 39.5% of the total appearances
Outside these 4 powerhouses, mid-majors make up a total of 12.5%. The exact equivalent of 2/yr
74% of all BCS schools have at least one sweet 16 during this time period.
That's 54 different schools out of a total of 73.
There are 19 different BCS-level teams that have failed to make a sweet 16 in this time period.
Of these 19:
4 are on their fourth HC
11 are on their third HC
3 are on their second HC
1 is on their first HC
RICK STANSBURY is the ONLY remaining head coach at a BCS school that has NOT made a Sweet 16 since 1999. The ONLY. Only competition comes out of Northwestern, who hired a new HC in 2000, one year after Stans was hired. Northwestern is historically the WORST BCS-level basketball program, in that they have NEVER made an NCAA tournament, and hasn't won A GAME in the NIT in 27 years.
