82 programs have been to the Sweet 16 in the last 13 years, and we aren't one of them. We have wona total of 4 NCAA tournament games under Stansbury since 1998. That means out of all the teams on this list, at least 39 of them have as many tournament wins as we do just from their Sweet 16 runs. That doesn't even include teams like Bama that have an Elite 8 appearance and multiple other 1st roundwins during that time frame, or a team like Georgia Tech that lost in the finals in 2004.

It is fair to say that at least 50 other schools, maybe even more, haveenjoyed more postseason success than us.And some of you think weshouldn't expect todo better than being in the Top 50 in terms of postseason success? We have gotten to the 2nd round only 4 times in 13 years, and have never gotten past that. For you "Stansbury is a regular season hero" people, you should be ashamed to defend a coach that can't even do better than 1/4 of all of the 300+ teams in D1 Men's basketball.

Since the 98/99 seasons(Stans Tenure):
79.3% of all Sweet16 teams have been BCS conference schools
20.7% have been made by non-bcs/mid-major teams
Of this 20.7%, Gonzaga, Memphis, Butler, and Xavier make up 39.5% of the total appearances
Outside these 4 powerhouses, mid-majors make up a total of 12.5%. The exact equivalent of 2/yr
74% of all BCS schools have at least one sweet 16 during this time period.
That's 54 different schools out of a total of 73.

There are 19 different BCS-level teams that have failed to make a sweet 16 in this time period.
Of these 19:
4 are on their fourth HC
11 are on their third HC
3 are on their second HC
1 is on their first HC
RICK STANSBURY is the ONLY remaining head coach at a BCS school that has NOT made a Sweet 16 since 1999. The ONLY. Only competition comes out of Northwestern, who hired a new HC in 2000, one year after Stans was hired. Northwestern is historically the WORST BCS-level basketball program, in that they have NEVER made an NCAA tournament, and hasn't won A GAME in the NIT in 27 years.

Sweet 16 appearances by BCS conference:

ACC: 75%
9 of 12 schools
(NOT Clemson, Virginia, or Virginia Tech).
Clemson-3rd HC hired in 2011.
Virginia-3rd HC hired in 2009.
Virginia Tech-3rd HC hired in 2003.

Big10: 72.8%
8 of 11 schools
(NOT Michigan, Northwestern, or Minnesota).
Michigan-3rd HC hired in 2007.
Northwestern-2nd HC hired in 2000.
Minnesota-3rd HC hired 2007.

Big12: 83.3%
10 of 12 schools
(NOT Colorado or Nebraska)
Colorado-3rd HC hired 2010
Nebraska-3rd HC hired 2006

BigEast: 75%
12 of 16 schools
(NOT Depaul, Providence, Rutgers, or South Florida)
Depaul-4th HC hired 2010
Providence-3rd HC hired 2011
Rutgers-4th HC hired 2010
South Florida-3rd HC hired 2007

Pac10: 70%
7 of 10 schools
(NOT Arizona St, California, or Oregon St)
Arizona St-2nd HC hired 2007
California-2nd HC hired 2008
Oregon St-4th HC hired 2008

SEC: 66.6%
8 of 12 schools
(NOT Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State, or South Carolina)
Arkansas-4th HC hired 2011
Georgia-3rd HC hired 2009
Mississippi State-ONE HC(current)

Even if Stans did get us to the sweet 16 once or even twice in 2004 or 05 we would still be saying he needs to go.

The fact that so many others have been to the sweet 16 only strengthens the argument against him.

A sweet 16 birth doesn't give you a free pass for 10 years.

I'll admit that i wasn't too much in the camp that if Stansbury made the tournament but missed the sweet 16 that he should be fired; however, that is a very telling stat. It's been proven that it's easier to make the tournament as a BCS school. Taking things even further, we're in the minority that have yet to make a deep tournament run ever since he's taken over, but we should be content with the success we've gotten? Why?<div>
</div><div>The only reason why making the sweet 16 is important to me is because it means we're getting that much closer to the finals. If we lose, oh well, but hopefully we'll be in a position to improve upon that next season. Honestly though, it just doesn't seem like this will ever happen under Stansbury.</div>

No way. Marty has played in the NFL equivalent of the Final Four at least 1 time. What Schottenheimer has not done, is win it all. <div>

The win percentages of the 19 BCS teams that have not made a Sweet 16 over the past 13 seasons(Stansbury's tenure). Not surprisingly, we have BY FAR the best win percentage, basically meaning that we underperform to a greater level than ANY of these others in the post season relative to our regular season success....

Mississippi State 0.640

Great job to the statastistions. Very impressive on the statistical regurgitation. That's pretty damn embarrassing. Now I would like to see Stan's goose egg vs previous MState coaches with at least sweet 16's.

let me add that whileyes Stans is the all-time winningest coach here, hell he's been here the longest, he is also in 5th place with overall winning percentage.

Those loses to Underwater Basket Weaving U hurt each year in December or perhaps we'd have more shots at that golden Sweet 16.
