I just don't think he will.

If he does, we'll just have to go out an hire another good coach, and I believe that we have the athletic administration to do that.

I think he remains with the dogs another year. My hope is that he eventually sees himself as a southern Joe Paterno, but I really don't believe that. I just can't see him at South Beach or as a Boca boy.

Regardless, he has been good for us and I will hate to see him leave, when he does.

I'm about to %^?@# my pants. Dan is the best thing that's happened to our program and your not worried? Sorry but I'd like to think maybe, just maybe he'll be leading the dawgpound rock in a BCS Bowl win. Why have hopes if they aren't high?

Lots of connections if your Dad was Mayor. Also, not many teams to beat every year in ACC to go undefeated and get a shot at the Big Game.

So, Mullen is going to take the UM job because his defense coordinator's dad was the mayor of Miami. Well, then surely we are screwed. Let's start the coaching search.

I have neither of those polar feelings that Dan will stay or go, that leaves one choice for me, and I'm sure most other people - I have yet to vote. If he leaves, he's set a solid foundation for the next coach to come in and build upon. I have confidence that our Athletic Department can find a solid replacement, hopefully being someone other than Diaz or Hudspeth - not knocking on them, they are both terrific, but they are unproven (especially when trying to take over an SEC program). Diaz is too young and inexperienced to be our head man. Hudspeth I wouldn't mind giving a try, but we all know that Mullen will gut the program for the coaches he wants when he does leave one day. He would have to hire a lot of new coaches, and most likely a new Strength Coarch.

But I would prefer a coach with a similar tenacity to Mullen, if there is one. I love his energy and passion for all aspects of the game.
Mullen knows if you center the experience around the fan, then the players will feed off of the energy and atmosphere they bring to each home game. You win your home games and you're doing pretty well, add in a road win or two and you're bowl eligible. The fans create the atmosphere and the players feed on it. I have been amazed at the turnaround of the entire gameday experience that Mullen has brought to us; he has complete control of all aspects of the program, he knows about good advertising and selling a program. Mullen has really rallied people all around the state behind MSU. Bear with me here, I know I may be getting ahead of myself, but he's slowly turning us into a "flagship"-type university. We keep beating OM then the kids growing up will know us as the Top Dawg in the state - pun intended - and they will want to be part of THE winning at MSU. It's somewhat happening now, the recruiting is, but that is due to the efforts of our staff and the way Mullen is selling the program. They want to come represent the State of Mississippi.

Mullen was not proven at taking over an sec program either before he got here. How old do you think Dan is??? He is 38 kinda young I would say. Don't cut Diaz and Huds short because your a dubmass.

Because being part of a coaching staff that brought the first NAQ team to a BCS Bowl is no big deal. Winning 2 Nat'l. Championships is no big deal. And being the coach that taught Tim Tebow and Alex Smith how to run **** (in the college game) is in no way a big deal. He was the brains behind the offense at BGSU, Utah and UF.
It was certainly stabbing in the dark when we hired him, but it's not like we were hiring a tight ends coach, we hired the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from a staff that has proven that they know how to win. A coach that has had a No. 1 overall draft pick and Heisman winning, record breaking quarterback. He may have been young but the staff he was on (himself included) had a few young guns but they did one thing everywhere they went: Win.
I was happy with the hire personally, he came in and knew what he was doing. He's still learning how to coach in-game (No one is perfect, it's only his 2nd yr. running everything) but he's All That and a bag of potato chips. If we hired Diaz, I would be a little skeptical and if you wouldn't then you are a moron.

Skeptical or not we can always fire them..... Look to be honest with you I like the young coaches. They are motivated and bring energy. Yeah I would worry a little but it is more about the coaching staff than it is the coach. Mullen was a great hire and done all those things you just said but your original post lacked all the extra wonderful information, so I figures I would piss you off in order to make you write all that. Is that Tom Hanks playing a guitar???? It doesn't matter Mullen is not leaving this year or the next. I think he will be here for a total of 5- 10 years.

The Sun Herald has the story (germans i'm sure) about him being Option 1A for Miami.

I do think it hurts us if he leaves. Two years is not long enough to establish his impact. It pisses me off that we can't build some protection into these huge contracts we give coaches. He needs to stay at least four years before I'll say he's done his job here.

I'm glad we have a good athletic administration, but replacing a head coach at this point in our program is a huge bite from the ***. No way it doesn't hurt if it happens.

And yes it is, good eyes. You are the first person to actually say anything about that. I was on a set for The Terminal and he broke out in a jam session. He rocked the house, almost brought it down.

If we did like Boston College did with that Jagadzinski (sp) guy where we refuse to let our coaches talk to people, that's not a good thing either.

forget the money issue, I think money is not an issue with Mullen at this point. I think when hes looking at leaving for a school that wants to hire him hes going to look at how easy he can win a National Championship at that school and the state of that particular program. Right now our program is more on an upward swing and more appealing than Miami as far as - expansion, fan support, attendance, conference, but winning a Championship is a tally for Miami. Right now if he leaves I believe hes made his mind up about MSU not being a future Championship Winning caliber job. Thats why I'm a little worried his feelings about States potential will be shown in the next few weeks and they will either be good or bad.

Everyday we go and dont hear anything out of Strickland, Mullen, or Miami for that matter, I get a little more worried!

When this first came up I was on the side of the fence of "not very worried", but as it continues on and zero information out there i have moved to sitting on the fence....
