Honestly hard to tell with the lack of offensive production + boneheaded key offensive decisions being made that he has to try to overcome on a weekly basis.
You can't keep using this excuse.

We looked sloppy last night. Yeah improved but he doesn't have the kids ready to play. A lot of that's on HC too. The reason we likely looked better was bringing support staff but we need to bring someone that can get these guys ready to play, make tackles, not overrun plays. The basics. We can't do that. We need someone who can make adjustments etc. Hutzler hasn't been able to do any of these things. Lebby will be here another year. He better get a DC and start kissing *** to get some more money/keep it coming with the trash coaching he's been doing. Otherwise next year will be worse because we know some of these top guys like Brennan will be gone likely.

Not an excuse, it’s a fact. A proven DC isn’t going to come into this situation unless they have one foot into retirement and can get a big paycheck out of it. From ridiculous decisions to go for it on 4th down in your own territory, poor playing calling between 1-3 down, to going hurry up on a play that should have been reviewed for a TD or 1st down (that never seemed to workout for us), a DC is coaching uphill from the opening kickoff at this point.

Note that Whitson is 2nd on the team in sacks (0.5 sack from being tied for first), and is 4th in tfl. He played what, 6 quarters? The DL talent on this team is atrocious

I don’t mean to be making excuses for him, but he’s been working with probably the least talented dl in the sec for two years.

A whole lotta truths in all these posts. I fear that Bulldog45's assessment is the mess we are stuck with. What new OL, DL, or any other assistant coach would feel safe to take a job here as long as the HC is a lame duck coach on a short lease? This does not look good for us folks. Not good at all.

Which is why I would just pull the trigger and fire him

If he returns for 2026, the only remaining discussion point won’t be if, but at what point during the 2026 season he finally gets put out to pasture.

Does the first home loss to an unranked team do it? After the 5th loss? 6th loss? 7th loss? Because, all of those things are happening in 2026 if he returns.

That’s what makes the notion of hanging on one more year so silly to think about. Does anyone think Selmon and Keenum won’t both still be here a year from now? Some combo of them is making the hire again regardless of whether its this year or next year. Just rip the damn bandaid off already.

I don’t think Hutzker has called any bad games. I think he’s done a decent job with what he has. Our DL is almost as bad as OL, arguably worst in the conference. LBs seem solid and secondary is strength. Tough to beat anyone decent in SEC when you’re that bad up front.

Last night was just really unbelievably bad. Like worst case scenario not sure Lebby can overcome it. He better put a whole lot better product on field for egg bowl that’s his only hope. If he wins, a lot will be forgiven but is that even a possibility at this point? Ball going to be in Selmon’s court if we get sh*t beat out of us.

I sat in disbelief watching our defensive ends not seal the ends while their RBs ran by without being touched. Even our LBs ran to the middle leaving their RBs open field for 15 yards and this was after a week of practice to prepare for a team we knew would rundabawl. I swear we looked like a defense playing in a pickup game with no coaching. No coordination between players. On the flip side Missouri looked like they knew what play we were running each down. It was like watching a game last year.

Hustler took nearly an entirely new group of players who started the year playing pretty well and turned them into last year's defense. It should be a crime for this guy to continue to have a job at State.

Well, no doubt competition got tougher when the Sec schedule state, plus teams learned our biggest defensive weakness which was we can't stop the run. Add lack of talent with little to no depth along with injuries is a major issue regardless of who is coaching. Not defending the staff but I don't put the 100% blame on our DC. JWS was correct with saying "Coaches don't win games, player do". You can put them in the right or correct position, but they must have some talent to defend or make the play.
Just saying.
We got to find better players and yes, it's on the Coaching staff to do this.

This isn’t getting enough attention. We had to make them win by throwing the ball and we did not stack for the run and we had some really poor technique on a few runs and lbs totally blowing their gap assignments
