Why would Kiffin stay at a program that has maxed out with making the first round of the playoffs? Why would he max out for a fanbase that ESPN clearly states is tier 2 in size, not giving night games now or really ever, or favorable calls on the 50/50 calls that help him win and make ESPN more money? Why would you want to be forever tier 2 when there are tier 1 programs like Ohio State, Georgia, Bama, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame with fanbases 4X to 5X the size of Ole Miss that generate millions of additional revenue for ESPN?
He really has only one choice. Stay and just enjoy a forever tier 2 program and semi-retire in Oxford, or move up to a program that will be able to compete regularly with the juggernauts.
What is crazy is that Louisana, Florida and Mississippi have realized this is highly valuable branding for their entire state. That is why each governor from all 3 states are involved.
