Mullen fixing our staff and scheme issues than some gimped up slot WR that dropped us during the dead period (thats never happened before*****). I dont give a **** where Kailo Moore goes. I care about a defense that was underwhelming and down right terrible against average competition this year. I care about changing our defensive philosphy from this "bend but dont break" lolly-gagging ******** to a philosophy predicated on getting pressure, punching the opponent in the mouth and then sack dragging them when they are trying to get up.

Look, we are going to end up with a very good class, very good. We are continuing to recruit Mississippi well and we are actually reaching out past our standard geographic boundries and have the interest of some prospects that we otherwise would not normally be in the hunt for. I think we have landed a hell of a recruiter in Brewster. Now, we need to pay his *** and go find another one that can coach the DL to alleviate some of the issues I have already mentioned.

Funny how good players magically make defenses better. I'm guessing C.J. Johnson would have helped our defense this year.

Of course, the biggest difference maker would have been Fletcher Cox coming back.

So, Fletcher Cox alone was the reason we gave up more yards than we gained this year? Fletcher Cox alone was the reason we went from 35th in total defense in 2011 to 58th in 2012, 16th in scoring defense in 2011 to 28th, 27th in passing defense in 2011 to 47th? The smallest delta in stats was rushing defense from 61st in 2011 to 69th in 2012. Not sure that all falls on losing one person.

He would have made all the difference in the world. You guys that just live on stats need to mix in a dose of reality.

Yeah, how silly of me. Objective benchmarks of performance are rarely, if ever, used to guage success or failure.

Our defense is best summarized by

and it started with the DL. Rumor is The Quay and Nick didn't okay much due to discipline problems and that pretty much messed up the whole DL, which ruined the whole defensive scheme.

He's definitely a big part of it considering we were basically relying on our d-line to get pressure. We had a first round draft pick and then replaced him with a walk-on. As Coach34 says- you can't have a NT getting single blocked. And he's right.

Quay and Nick have to decide if they want to do what they want to do or if they want to play football and win.

Given we've not really put a lot into recruiting a DT from JUCO...

sounds like we are doubling down on Quay and Nick for next year so they BETTER get their act together.

Cox was a loss, no doubt; but anyone denying that we had serious scheme, personnel mix and swagger problems on defense is absolutely crazy. And I am not singling you out Todd, because I think you agree. But goat acting like the loss of Cox was the sole reason for our defensive woes is absurd.

You people are just clueless.....

The spread/hurry up and all variations thereof.....it is wearing all teams out, not just us. Not many CAN stop it. And the ones that can, are the ones who have superior players on defense, starting with the DL. Teams like Alabama, Florida and LSU. You want to know why Manny Diaz shut down teams when he was at MSU? Let's start with 5 NFL caliber players, 2 on the DL.

Seriously, that's just how wrong you are. And ignorant and delusional on top of that, is what makes you appear completely clueless.

I thought the defense played pretty well considering the offense turned the ball over 4 17ing times.

You provided statistics from 2011 when he was on the team and then those for 2012 when he wasn't. Wouldn't it then be possible to have the same stats from 2011 in 2012 had he come back for his senior year?

Poor technique and ****** tackling has very little to do with the other teams offense. aTm had something like 300 yards after contact against us. Torbush coached against some spread/hurry up teams as well and his defense never gave up 700 yards.

You are right on Quay but Sir James had more than discipline problems...he was completly out of shape...the whole season.

You do know that State runs a spread offense, don't you? Auburn? TSUN? UPig? Oops, time for Wailin J the Skull-Dragger to take his meds.

Torbush also had many of those same players Diaz had, plus Kyle Love and Jamar Chaney. And even then we still got torched a little, but that was mainly due to Toast and Damein Anderson. Once Broomfield and Banks started playing, our defense magically got much better. Really only got lit up against the superior competition, like Alabama.
