fan safety after a sporting event at his university that he would essentially have his security accommodate OM fans pouring on the field where they could get into verbal and physical altercations with MSU players. A $5K fine might be warranted when a school can't stop fans but the fine should be much heavier when the university's administration essentially orchestrates it. I am personally not aware of any other SEC administrators (at least in the past 10 years) that have not done everything they knew to do to keep fans off the playing field at all times.http://djournal.com/view/full_story...’s-end?instance=secondary_stories_left_column

That idiot dodged a bullet by allowing Ole Miss fans to get anywhere near our team. I don't particularly have a problem with letting fans rush the field after beating a ranked team that has been dominating you the last three years but getting up in the losing team's face is a recipe for disaster.

Normally I would agree but I'm not sure our players had any fight in them that night.

Seriously does the following quote...

“There was some shoving and pushing, some verbal things going back and forth,” he said. “I think in a rivalry game some of that’s going to happen. We’re not aware of anything else at this point. If something comes up, we’ll address it accordingly.” sound like a university AD or some random drunk fan off the street? I would tend towards the latter.

Would ya'll like some cheese with that whine? Damn man, I realize you're looking for anything and everything you can to spin that *** whipping the other night into a negative toward OM, but really? If Bjork was concerned about an altercation on the field, don't you think he would have doubled up security in front of the student section and let not 'em on the field? Truth is, he understood the importance of the win and decided to let the team enjoy it with the fans. Big 17'n deal, get over it. Besides, shouldn't you be more worried about why your team took that *** whipping?

this has nothing to do with what happened in the game ifself. State fans essentially had a chance to do the same type thing after kicking your butts in '09 to get revenge for the 45-0 whipping the year before but I didn't see our administrators allowing any such risky interaction between fans and opposing players when emotions are running high. That was just plain stupid.

What's weak is State folks trying to make a big deal out of nothing. Had something bad actually happened due to the students rushing the field, I could see your concern. But nothing really did. Has any State player or coach broght anything negative up concerning this; other than a little smack talking by the fans?

BTW...I applaud the State players for being able to constrain themselves while trying to get off the field.

for the administration to encourage it tis is a). Risky and stupid and b). Should make bulldog fans feel a little better about our university and the game. Nothing tells me we're still on top of the rivalry more than the fact that OMU bum rushed the field after this win. Bjork comes off as an idiot here.

No one is making a huge deal of it. We are just pointing out that your AD got away with making a really stupid and risky decision.

I would seriously hope that Strickland has more sense next year to not allow cowbell clanging fans get up in CJ Johnson's face after the game.

I mean what an idiotic opinion to say you should only have a concern IF something really bad actually happens. Geez, let's just let all fans from all schools rush the field every week UNTIL an out of control brawl happens where people get injured and THEN we will worry about it.

I was there............

in one of your club levels and was treated fairly well. All that aside, your AD is an absolute idiot. And did Dan Jones know about this? Surely not. Defending this is ridiculous. Somebody could have been seriously injured.

physically out on the field and gotten hurt they would have all portrayed it as the fault of our players. That I can assure you.

I think it's funny that y'all found it important enough to rush the field. One win in four tries is worth celebrating? Our coaches and players got so used to whipping that *** without having to try that they got complacent. Now we will have our heads back in it and we will make y'all our bitches again for the next few years. Get used to winning one egg bowl every 4-5 years and looking up at us in the SEC standings. It's become the norm.

Yeah, that's not exactly what one would expect of a school official. I don't remember the last time it happened at State ... might've been when we beat Alabama in '96 ... but I was never a fan of rushing the field and tearing down the goal posts, let alone badgering the opposing coaches and players. Hopefully the new fence we have at DWS will effectively solve the problem should it ever be a potential.

Apparently not. I'm surprised he admitted that he not only condoned it, but proactively supported it.

I am glad your fans felt like it was a big enough win to rush the field. I think the fine is ridiculous and that we are killing the game in the name of sportsmanship.

However, security should have kept the Bear faithful separated from the MSU players and you cannot dismiss away the shoving and yelling by just saying it was a rivalry game. Actually the fact that it was a rivalry game should have been important enough a factor that the security staff did a better job keeping them apart. It could have been unfortunate and the University would have been liable if there had been anything unfortunate results of the altercations.

Yes, they are going to happen in a rivalry game if you let exuberant fans close to the rival players at the end of the game... the point is they should not have been close and it is up to the University to keep it that way. Would be the same at MSU if the roles had been reversed.

As Der pointed out, luckily our players didn't have any fight left in them.

It's all part of the Rebel tradition of riots......

..it's sorta like couch-burning with West Virginia, or burning cars in Chicago or L.A. when they win a championship.
