You were the biggest proponent of MSU being able to hire a good coach if we put up the money?
<div>1. They are a bottom feeder that thinks they should be much more than they can be- many of their fans cant get over the 1950's and 60's. They are delusional enough to think they belong in the top half of the SEC. Back-to-back Cotton Bowls are their summit- not their norm. Being a bottom feeder in the SEC West trims their options down. --- Many said the same thing about us being a bottom feeder. Money talked.</div><div>
</div><div>2. They have shown to have a quick trigger on coaches- Cutcliffe- one losing season and gone....Nutts takes them to the best back to back seasons in 50 years- fired 2 years later...potential coaches will definitely keep that in mind when having to play LSU, Bama, and others every year. --- Similarly, "MSU is a coaching graveyard." Which is worse, a program that almost never has a coach hired away to a better position or a fanbase and administration that don't support those who have at least been successful long enough? I think they are pretty close. In both scenarios the coaches don't have many options after being done with the respective school. In our case, money talked. I think they will do the same. </div><div>
</div><div>3. Oxford is a ********- it's Grenada without the lake. I dont care what some writer wrote in a national paper- I've been there many times- it sux. It is small town Mississippi- just like Starkville. You can spray that turd with cologne, dress it up, and shine it up nicely- but it's still a turd. They may get lucky and find a guy like Mullen who likes the small town atmosphere- but the odds arent in their favor. --- Many said the same thing about Starksville. The odds weren't in our favor either. Money talked. </div><div>
</div><div>4. Money- having to pay off Nutts and crew isn't going to help the situation- and will probably force them into hiring a coordinator wanting to get that step ladder job. I will be a little surprised if Kirby or Gus takes it. --- I understand it won't be fun to pay off Nutt and his staff but you can't really think they fired him without at least guaging the ability to make an effective hire with the right amount of money can you? I don't want to know the particulars about their money situation and don't really care. The fact that they fired Nutt is enough for me to see that they at least think they will have the money to do a proper search. Again, money talks. We ended up with an up and coming coordinator andit was a great move for us. It may even be better for OM since they need someone willing to embrace the drastic changes that are necessary there. </div><div>
</div><div>5. Keeping Boone around another year- a new coach doesn't want to come in not knowing who the new AD will be in a year. New AD's have a tendency to want their guys in place- not the previous guy's hires. --- I think this is the key area where they have a difference over our hiring of Mullen. We had a fantastic AD in place and at the time he wasn't signalling that he was leaving. I think the Boone situation is the biggest problem for a potential hire. Add in the Forward Rebels campaign and you have a recipe for disaster in the hire. Money will take care of the other issues but not this in my opinion. </div><div>
I'll add one more that you don't have:
6. Recruiting will be a nightmare in the next couple of years unless they hire a big named person. The momentum at State and the deflation at OM, coupled with the success at LSU, Bama, and Auburn, will make it damn hard to recruit and an up and comer may want no part of that. Croom learned on the job and Mullen appears to be doing the same thing. OM will be looking at a much longer time table for their turn around if they get an up and comer. Again, money may be able to get them that individual but the Boone issues could end that part of the search.
Damn it I sound like I am taking up for OM. I can't stand them and hope you are exactly right and the search goes to ****. Even so, if they bring out the checkbook I think they can deal with it the same way we did other than Boone issues.
RebelBruiser, don't go allman-lovey on my post.</div>
