I think the Confederates have a hard time again hiring a head coach

You were the biggest proponent of MSU being able to hire a good coach if we put up the money?

<div>1. They are a bottom feeder that thinks they should be much more than they can be- many of their fans cant get over the 1950's and 60's. They are delusional enough to think they belong in the top half of the SEC. Back-to-back Cotton Bowls are their summit- not their norm. Being a bottom feeder in the SEC West trims their options down. --- Many said the same thing about us being a bottom feeder. Money talked.</div><div>
</div><div>2. They have shown to have a quick trigger on coaches- Cutcliffe- one losing season and gone....Nutts takes them to the best back to back seasons in 50 years- fired 2 years later...potential coaches will definitely keep that in mind when having to play LSU, Bama, and others every year. --- Similarly, "MSU is a coaching graveyard." Which is worse, a program that almost never has a coach hired away to a better position or a fanbase and administration that don't support those who have at least been successful long enough? I think they are pretty close. In both scenarios the coaches don't have many options after being done with the respective school. In our case, money talked. I think they will do the same. </div><div>
</div><div>3. Oxford is a ********- it's Grenada without the lake. I dont care what some writer wrote in a national paper- I've been there many times- it sux. It is small town Mississippi- just like Starkville. You can spray that turd with cologne, dress it up, and shine it up nicely- but it's still a turd. They may get lucky and find a guy like Mullen who likes the small town atmosphere- but the odds arent in their favor. --- Many said the same thing about Starksville. The odds weren't in our favor either. Money talked. </div><div>
</div><div>4. Money- having to pay off Nutts and crew isn't going to help the situation- and will probably force them into hiring a coordinator wanting to get that step ladder job. I will be a little surprised if Kirby or Gus takes it. --- I understand it won't be fun to pay off Nutt and his staff but you can't really think they fired him without at least guaging the ability to make an effective hire with the right amount of money can you? I don't want to know the particulars about their money situation and don't really care. The fact that they fired Nutt is enough for me to see that they at least think they will have the money to do a proper search. Again, money talks. We ended up with an up and coming coordinator andit was a great move for us. It may even be better for OM since they need someone willing to embrace the drastic changes that are necessary there. </div><div>
</div><div>5. Keeping Boone around another year- a new coach doesn't want to come in not knowing who the new AD will be in a year. New AD's have a tendency to want their guys in place- not the previous guy's hires. --- I think this is the key area where they have a difference over our hiring of Mullen. We had a fantastic AD in place and at the time he wasn't signalling that he was leaving. I think the Boone situation is the biggest problem for a potential hire. Add in the Forward Rebels campaign and you have a recipe for disaster in the hire. Money will take care of the other issues but not this in my opinion. </div><div>
I'll add one more that you don't have:

6. Recruiting will be a nightmare in the next couple of years unless they hire a big named person. The momentum at State and the deflation at OM, coupled with the success at LSU, Bama, and Auburn, will make it damn hard to recruit and an up and comer may want no part of that. Croom learned on the job and Mullen appears to be doing the same thing. OM will be looking at a much longer time table for their turn around if they get an up and comer. Again, money may be able to get them that individual but the Boone issues could end that part of the search.

Damn it I sound like I am taking up for OM. I can't stand them and hope you are exactly right and the search goes to ****. Even so, if they bring out the checkbook I think they can deal with it the same way we did other than Boone issues.

I don't think Oxford hurts Ole Miss in the coaching search. Athens is nice. Nashville is nice. Never been to Lexington so I can't judge there. I'm not sure I'd put Gainesville or Fayetteville that far ahead of Oxford. I'd probably put Auburn behind. Tuscaloosa, Knoxville, and Baton Rouge are fairly terrible, and Columbia, SC is a dump. I haven't been to Columbia, Missouri, but I've heard it's a crap town too. Very little correlation between livable cities and SEC titles.

Some coaches might be hesitant to step into a toxic environment, but almost any new head coach will encounter some volatility upon arrival.

Even so, not seeing too many available coaches that could significantly improve Ole Miss's situation in the near-term.

He'll I thought it was pretty damn nice for a college town. Nice bar scene, plenty of food, and a pretty part of the country.

Huge deer too.

He won more games that Cotton Bowl year than MSU did when it went to Atlanta.

It never ceases to crack me up this "not good in 50 years" smack from a team that has done worse.

More wins in a Cotton Bowl year > going to the SEC championship game (and having a 4th Q lead on the national champs)?

Blank stare.

It's a small town where a grown-up with an education can live, instead of a big city, and not want to blow his brains out with "Yes on 26" types crowding him.

But the biggest problem with their situation is the lame duck AD. It is my opinion that potential coaches will be wary of their unidentified AD. Sure MSU had issues when Mullen was hired but there was clear direction from the person making the hire. Take Leach for example......he is a strong personality....will someone like him be willing to take the necessary leap of faith? Byrne had a vision.....what kind of confidence will the search committee be able to convey to the new hire? I think this is the wild card in this situation.

Great Democrats!! That should be an attractive thing to a coach wanting to preach 'effort and earning your way'! Well....maybe not...but surely you canfinda coach that would settle for coeds that swallow......

of just about any town in the country. Demographics ,incomes, schools, crime etc. I just glanced at several SEC towns and Columbia,Mo. , at least on paper, will imediately be one of the nicer towns in the conference. Anyway it`s got a lot of info that will deflate someof the bragging about certain college towns.

What 'up and comer coordinator' or 'stepping stone' would want to deal with TSUN's schedule over the next couple of years???<div>
</div><div>Next year they play TX, A&M, UGA, Fla, Vandy, @ Ark, MSU, Aub, @ Bama, @ LSU</div><div>
</div><div>How do they possibly win more than 4 games next year????</div>

Do the Rebs give Nix a shot at HC with Brewer on staff? I think Nix is a complete idiot, but I feel like people up there are pretty high on him and the "he was offered the Florida job" thing.

...it has far more restaurants and shopping than Oxford. The Mall at Turtle Creek is very nice. Freeze's wife will miss it.

He can bring in a good QB or coach up one of the 43 on scholly. Because as much as I hate to admit it Brassell and Moncreif are exceptional. You give a QB decent pass protection with those two and he could put up numbers. Of course if that happens he'll probably bolt for a better job, maybe Chizik is found out by then and the cycle starts again. Oh yeah, I used to spend a lot of summers in Oxford, what's up with "West Oxford"? Like Oxford is such a sprawling metropolis it needs directions to the west side of town.

My experience is people dumb enough to believe Democrats don't work and leech off them are usually people who themselves actually don't work hard. Like you. You know, dumb pussies who buy everything the pastor at Bumfuck Baptist Church tells them about the evil democrats who want to cut the babies out of their bellies.

I'm neither Dem nor Rep. In the last four presidential elections, I've voted republican twice and democrat twice.

Ninety percent of republicans I know are against 26.
