Disagree that RU is a better job than ND. ND much more successful program historically, weaker basketball league and a national, wealthy fan base. Plus, a better academic reputation. Agree both are better jobs than PSU.
Rutgers>>>ND.

Wake up. This is 2023.

These search firms cast a wide net. It’s very likely pike along with 20+ coaches were initially reached out to. Pike has a good agent and knows how easy it is to get Hobbs to dish out money. Basically just says to hobbs, “Hey ND hit us up”. Hobbs comes back and says, dont worry we’ll extend you and that buyout even more. I sure would love to negotiate vs hobbs
What the eff is wrong with you? Pike is not paid at the top of the B1G head coaches. We are getting Pike at a discount to his value on the market. Pike is killing it.

Wake the eff up, kyk

We have pike at a discount? LOL. There aint a school willing to pay him more.

The 3rd highest paid coach in the big ten is kevin willard at $3.9mm. 4th is greg gard at $3.6mm. Pike makes $3.25 this coming year and then $3.5 the next year, then $3.75 after that etc.

And to my knowledge he has the largest buyout in the b1g at $15,000,000

Thought for sure they’d at least send an offer to the ghost of John Wooden.
Nah they celebrate that Wooden led UCLA win as their biggest ever. Now a contract for octogenarian Digger Phelps? Sign em up!

It's getting hard to say which take in this thread is worse.

Option one: the original post and all follow ups from Plum, the legend in his own mind but almost nobody else's, stating that ND should have done the impossible. You cannot hire a coach that isn't interested in giving up his current job to take your job opening. There's no coach draft that can force him to go. Duh! It's like saying if I was the Jets' GM, I would have signed Patrick Mahomes instead of pursuing Rodgers.

Option two: kyk saying that NO OTHER SCHOOL would be willing to pay Pike what we are paying him. USA Today recently had him in the top five underpaid coaches in all of college basketball. He's 11th in B1G salaries according to the article. Without that massive buyout, we would be worried about poachers left and right.

USA Today, underpaid coaches
